I've been suffering with an out to in shot and my coach has had me working on swinging with my right foot back a bit which is meant to help get an in to out swing. I've been hitting a very small draw doing it but will this drill result in my take away being too inside? I've had the odd shank but I think that's more me than the swing.

Right foot back helps create a draw. ( Make a normal  set-up on target line, then move your back foot back a little.  Keep club face on target line, but swing on foot alignment line.)  I think what your coach has done will straighten out the ball flight, but doesn't address an outside to inside swing.  Try this thread maybe to start getting some tips.

I was advised it would help me get hitting from the inside but I'm wary I'll start taking it away too far inside.

It should not be an issue b/c you can vary how far your right foot can be back.

Also, I don't think your instructor is suggesting it as a perm fix.  I did that time to time to remind me what in to out swing is/should be like.  Over time, it fixed my out to in swing for good.

I shared this in another post. The pro at my local club gave me a neat tip.  Set up your ball with the logo at the back of the ball on the target line, then rotate the logo 1/4 turn in towards your back foot. Swing really slowly, thinking ONLY of hitting the logo , not swing mechanics, ball flight or target.  Your aim should shift you into hitting inside out without having to consciously think about it.

I had an outside in or over the top swing and this helped me a lot.

A very inside to out swing path can produce a shank because you are pushing the clubhead outward.

Not really a drill that I found successful.

It's definitely not a permanent fix and he said this will help get the feeling but over time I should bring my foot forward once the feeling is there.

    • A sand trap is not supposed to have 3 inches of water in it. To me that’s temporary, casual water. Just like if your ball lands in a deep rain puddle in the middle of the fairway. I would have gladly hit out of any spot in that bunker. I understand that it’s a different rule. I just think it’s a dumb rule. You are penalized because it rained.  Here’s what I think is the dumbest rule in golf, and all sports for that matter - professionals playing for millions of dollars in a tournament have to carry around a little pencil and scorecard to keep their score and sign it, when there are big scoreboards all over the course and on tv. Can you imagine the Knicks losing because they didn’t count their score correctly? Like I said, I love the game, but it’s time to move into the 21st century already.
    • Sorry to lose you, thx for letting us know
    • I have to bow out for the weekend. I was only in for Saturday as it was
    • Could course committee have an MLR option to declare this bunker GUR?
    • Sorry, I will disagree. You got a penalty because you hit it somewhere and didn't want to play it from there. Bunkers are not the general area. If you had hit it into temporary water in the general area, you'd be entitled to relief. You hit it into a hazard, a bunker. Why should you get free relief when you hit it into a bunker? If someone else hit it into a different part of the bunker, without water, they'd not get a drop for free out of the bunker. Heck, it'd cost them two strokes if they didn't have an ACC and wanted to drop it out of the bunker.
