On the course the other day with a 13 year old who took that much time to hit every shot. Take 3 practice swings, line up like he was going to hit, back away and line it up for what seemed like a century, then get back over it and wait another 10 seconds, then hit. Or of something felt weird to him he would back off and do it all over again. I wonder if this is something that is sweeping the nation with youth golf instructors...do they teach this in the First Tee program?

They do swing hard, I like that.  Most adult women I see do this dainty half-swing and the ball goes 100 yards.

My initial thoughts as well....starting early to learn slow play.

It was in January on an empty course. I think Dad was letting them take their time.

But he shouldn't...he should be teaching them to maintain a decent pace of play early on and that pre-swing routine won't do that.

Nah. They are 11 year olds and I would assume with those conditions they are not holding anyone up. He should be making sure they are getting enjoyment out of it. If it was a height of the season round that would be a different story. My father took me out when I was much younger than that but usually during slower times of the day. If there was a group behind then I might only get to take a few shots a hole before he made me pick up. If there was nobody behind us then I got to hit more shots. Either way we enjoyed our game without diminishing the experience for those behind us. The key at that age is that they are enjoying what they are doing.

That doesn't help. I want anyone who has not played as much as me to stop getting them and for me to finally get one. Nothing else will satisfy me. I am selfish that way.

I agree in general, but at that age you just want to get up and hit it, you don't want to go through a pre shot routine that Keegan Bradley would think is slow. Kids don't do that naturally. Someone shows them. As if at that age they are visualizing everything, especially at her skill level. She couldn't hit it over the lake.

And there is no reason for kids this age, and of this skill level, to be doing this kind of pre shot routine. I can't even say if kids shooting low scores at those ages even really understand what they are doing pre shot, other than being slow and not hitting until all the stars align.
