I decided a couple of months ago to spen more time working on my swing i depth and found that most of my problems were bad posture. I was tucking my pelvis under causing a very flat backswing and the full range of shoddy shots (you know the ones!).

Anyway, after fixing this and sorting making sure i start the downswing from the ground up with good hip action ( like to feel left hip is being pulled up and back) my shots are really nice.

Only issue is i can now hit all the clubs decent except the 8 iron!

Does anyone else suffer from a bogey club that they just cant hit?

Sure 3i or 4i, but 8i is kind of odd? Did you check if there's something wrong with the iron itself?

Looks ok. more likely to be me thats wrong. Will have to see how im setting up with it. no doubt it'll be something small causing the miss hits

It could have come loose? How does it compare to the 7i and 9i?

Club is fine, its more a mental thing, 9i is the club i hit best so cant understand how the 8i is so bad. 77 goes ok too (slight fade) with good distance. Planning on playing with odd number irons so i can work out the issues with the 8 at the range

The curious thing is that you seem to have no issues with 7i and above. Usually, the longer clubs are much harder to hit. For example, my 7i to 4i are my mystery clubs, that is, it's a complete mystery as to whether I do something bad on any shot with them or not. Anything at or below my 8i are really sweet and nice to hit.

This is why it seems really curious to me as well?

Clubs that are good are 6 , 7, 9 PW. Like i say, im sure its just something im doing different to the other clubs. maybe trying to go after it too much thanks to over confidence

I am not experienced enough to help you, but I would get some tape - tape the numbers so I can't identify the iron by its number, mix them all up, grab one without looking and hit it w/o thinking much about it. I know - just by looking at the club you will be able to identify it, but it might help a little bit?!

Could be a mental thing - I learned to play as a kid with half a set (3,5,7,9) and my brother got the other half (4,6,8,PW).  When my brother gave up I got the even clubs but it took a while for me to get used to hitting them.  Couldn't hit the 6 for ages but was fine on the 5 and the 7 - just one of those weird things I guess.  6 is now my favorite club so I got over it by just spending a bit of time with it and hitting half shots, chips etc to get confidence.

I'd check the shaft at a club maker. See if it's the same bend point and stiffness. I'll bet something is different between the shafts. Make sure, if you go the bring 9/7 irons to check against.

    • As a supporter of the European team even though I chose to live in the US, this is kind of good news. I'm pretty close to Bethpage, but won't be going at these prices. Neither will the crazy drunk NY sports fans who would have made this a very difficult place to play as a Euro. The tickets will go to the city types who are entertaining clients and don't care about the money. Many of them are going to sit there and watch, not get all raucous. I am not dumb enough to believe that this is going to be like a Sunday afternoon stroll in the park for the Euros, but I think it will be significantly more subdued as a result of the prices. Even at $250 I would probably have been watching on the TV anyway so no real skin in the game.
