despite less than stellar driving, managed a 73 today on a short (5200 yards) par 70, with even par on the front nine and +3 on the back.

94 (46+48).

Disappointing score, but a fun day. I hit some good shots to go along with the bad ones.  It was windy, so I actually got a wind-assisted drive that went just over 300 yards! (I normally only get 240 or so on my better drives.)  ...ummm, I won't tell you about the drives that went straight into the wind though (but they didn't even make it to 200yds!)....

Rough day for penalties: I found water seven times - twice on the same hole (ended up taking an 11).

My putting wasn't good (36 putts: two three-putts, two one-putts), but it was inches from being great -- usually on my bad putting days, it's terrible.

I need to learn how to play better in the wind.  ...good thing I live in Oklahoma, I guess...

74, Bayou Din (Old Front / Back), Beaumont, Texas.  Hit everything except the putter well today.  Missed birdie putts inside 15 feet on holes 1 thru 3 to set the tone for my round, never found the stroke after that.  Hit 12 fairways, 15 greens, no birdies.  Teeing it up at Belle Oaks in Port Arthur tomorrow hoping to putt better and maintain the ball striking.  Fall Classic Individual Tournament next weekend at Bayou Din and Babe Zaharias.

Another lousy round - 100 on the button. Haven't had a good round since early July. Hurt my back and took a month off but definitely not swinging anywhere near normal. Started seeing a trainer to work on the core to strengthen that area and avoid more problems in future. We'll see how that works out. Anyway, Season's almost done, hoping for better things next year.......

80. Unlike the other day where I needed par for 79 on the last hole & made double, this time I needed par on the last & made bogey. Had a simple up & down from the fringe & couldn't do it.

77 on a par 70 today.  we played four more holes afterwards and i was 2 under for those 4 holes... so if you wanted to look at the final picture, i was +5 for 22 holes.

Just finished up my club's member/guest tournament yesterday. Overall we did well - finishing 3rd (out of 6) in our flight.

Thursday we treated our practice round as a true practice, familiarizing my partner with the course.

Friday, we started out right taking the first match 6-4, got crushed in the 2nd, 2.5-7.5 (ran into a hot guest that played over his head.)

The 3rd match Friday was the toughest - we had the lead until the last 2 holes and ended up losing 4-6 to the eventual flight champion (they did not lose any of their 5 matches.)

Saturday, we destroyed our competition and played as a true team - when one was off, the other was on. Took the first match 7-3, which was only that close because my partner hit the wrong ball on the 3rd hole. I was glad when this match ended - our opponents father/son bonding time was definitely nothing I wanted any part of between the club throwing and the growing animosity between each others poor play.

We took the last match 7.5 - 2.5 which was actually a closer match that the score indicated - 7 of the holes went down to the final shot.

We took our flight's day money on Saturday.

This was my first member guest that I had ever played in and look forward to it again next year. Between the tee gifts, beer, golf and food, we got much more than our moneys worth. The other aspect that was new to me was playing in a flight where so few strokes were given out - the combined handicaps from all of the teams was very close.

+5 on these over seeded shag carpets they call greens. Kinda weird watching your putt weave back and forth as it rolls towards the cup. Oh well, they'll be really great in a couple more weeks.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
