30F at the course this morning, too cold so I went to work to do some hip turn drills. Trying to get that lateral hip motion on the downswing just before turning the hips. Getting more oomph on the last range session doing this. I feel like I'm actually getting closer to swinging at my maximum now.

Went to an indoor range today. Spent the first five minutes working on my slow motion drill.

More normal temps for Dec today with snow on way tomorrow. End of any outside golf. Practiced swings in barn again focus on grip and ball position.

Where is indoor range, name. Far from Maine border? Thanks.

5 to 10 minutes mirror work. Focused on the backswing and making sure my right hip doesn't sway back.

I spent 30 minutes doing mirror work today. I focused on three parts. First the back swing to A4 with emphasis on the centered hip turn. I did slow back swings at first watching my position in the mirror. One feel was for my right back pocket to move to my swing center as I turned. Head has to remain centered. I should look like my left hip moves toward the target.

Second, I worked on flattening the shaft from A4 to A5. My feel for today was pressing down on the grip with my left index finger with a little palmar flexion. This was recommended by my Evolvr instructor and seems to be working for me. I also focused on keeping the right elbow in front of my shirt sleeve. I did these slowly and checked in the mirror. I finished from A5 to A8 or 9 with a slower swing.

Last part focused on A5 through to A9 extending through impact. I want my hips and shoulders to complete the turn. I am not as flexible on this side of the swing and I tend to get a bit armsy at times.

These three parts were my priority pieces during the year. I want to keep them in place during the off season.

I finished with a weight workout.

Woke up and went back to bed. 32F was a little too cold to be out on a golf course at 5:30am. Still making adjustments to my grip with my PVC pipe club. . .

Did some wrist hinge drills with the new grip. Feels much better. We'll see how well I hit on the course.

Happily played 14 random holes on the shorter course then stopped only after doubling a 366 yard par 4, needing 4 strokes from 10 yards past the hole that used a LW for the second shot. So. . .instead of playing even worse golf, I decided to tour around the Rose Parade preparations on our golf course. They're starting to cook really nice food on my home course. . .made me hungry.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
