There are plenty of scratch players who don't really consider themselves "conquering a course" by playing to their handicaps. However, very few people have ever shot 54.

Which brings me back on topic, I think the roller coaster is much less bumpy the better you get. Scratch golfers have a bad day when they shoot 2 strokes over, while a bogey could easily shoot 5-10 strokes over their handicap. The roller coaster ride seems to get less "bumpy" the better you get.

No one has ever shot a 54. There have been four rounds of 55: Homero Blancas on the Champions Tour in 1993. At an amateur tournament in 1962, Blancas posted a score of 55.  The earliest occurred way back in 1935 and was carded by a golfer named E.F. Staugaard on the par-72, 6,419-yard Montebello Park course in Montebello, Calif.

Then we get into streaks. Amy Yang on the LPGA tour closed out last season with a record 9 straight birdies. Mark Calcavecchia did this in 2009 in the RBC Canadian Open in the second round and shot a 65. These are the only two professionals who have done this.

Other streaks involving 7 birdies and one eagle are: Billy Mayfair 2001 Buick Open; Briny Baird 2003 FUNAI Classic.

We've seen pros shoot a 64 in the opening round of a tournament, then come back with a 75 the next day. We've had a crappy round where we were hitting fat shots and thin shots, then go to the range or play a practice round the next day trying to diagnose what the heck went wrong, and we pure almost every shot which tells us nothing more than we had a bad day.

I'm sorry I missed this. Kim Jong-Il is obviously the best golfer in the world. We should analyze his swing and emulate it.

For the record and not to cheat  Kim Jong-Il ,it was 38 under for a 34,but he was playing on a short course.only 7700 yds.

Note: I do not answer direct questions or points raised against my untested and unproven theories, have no history of teaching anyone, and post essentially the same nonsense in everyone's Member Swing threads.

That would be some valuable video footage indeed.

I stand corrected. Dear Leader also did this in 1994. With today's equipment, he'd probably would have made a real run at 30.

To stick to the OP, in Kim Jong Il's golf dictionary, there is no up and down.  It's mostly miraculous play, one after another.   To think that this was shown in their official news broadcast says it all about NK.   If I were watching the news, I'd have hard time suppressing my laughs.

Speaking of roller coaster rides, I am going through one now after another set of swing lessons.   I told my instructor that I won't be signing up for another lesson until I master the current one - proper hip turn.   The good news is, all the good scores are out of my GHIN and I am getting the hang of good hip turn.   I expect my HI will started to go down again from the current 19.7.

I think a "perfect game" is considered a 54, which is birdie on every hole?

That is correct.  That is why Lynn Marriott and Pia Nilsson call their golf school "Golf 54".  Their most famous student is Annika Sorenstam.

PEZ SEZ-----from the archives of golf history:

In 1928, Archie Compston, a tough, rough Scotsman beat up on The Haig in a head to head match, winning 18 and 17! It was the worst loss in Hagen's career, and he acknowledged that in his autobiography.

Two years later, Archie was trying to stop Bobby Jones' march to the Grand Slam at the British Open.  After shooting a course record of 68 in the third round, he led Jones by 1 shot. In the final round, he was paired, of course, with the #1 Amateur in the world (and indisputably the #1 Amateur of all time).  After a poor start, Archie ballooned to an 82!  14 shots higher than the day before.  Jones won, of course, and then completed the historic Grand Slam, which stands as one of the all-time great records in golf history.
