Had a charity scramble tournament this past weekend on a course across town, I feel my driver swing has got out of rythm or timing, my irons still play, Has this happened to anyone else?

I think its pretty common to get away from your normal swing during a scramble.  I specifically try to remind myself to make "normal" swings, because I've learned that swinging harder generally means hitting shots off line, off center, and off the golf course.  I'm not sure how to fix the bad timing, other than to go back to basics, practice alignment and set up, and use whatever positive swing keys you've used in the past.  For me, that means being very conscious of beginning my forward swing by rotating my hips, but you have to use the keys that work for you.

My long game swing timing has went south a few times on me. It usually happens when I try to speed my round up. My walking/playing speed relates closely to my full swing speed.

Usually play a very slight draw, but its been starting out on the right side of the fairway and working all the way to the left. Like a big hook

One thing I'm starting to realize about good tempo, is that it keeps me from over swinging. It seems to me that it's pretty hard to achieve a good 3:1 tempo if you allow your arms to run on past your pivot and, conversely, it's pretty hard to over swing if your hitting that 3:1 tempo. I've used Analyzr to mark my tempo and the closer I am to 3:1, the better my swing looks at pretty much all positions, particularly at A3.5 onwards.

A lot of timing comes for free with good swing dynamics.

When I am swinging good, where I keep up my turn rates, I can swing slower and faster. I feel like I can just rip at the ball.

A good swing allows you to swing very hard with out feeling out of control.

A bad swing requires you to swing slower because your constantly on the line of being out of control due to a lack of key's 1-3.

I think this is why you hear amateurs say they want to swing slower. Mostly because their swing feels fast and out of control due to their poor swing mechanics.

Yep. Like I said before, when I hit my positions well (5 keys, well 4 anyway...) I typically get a 3:1 ratio. I'm not consciously trying to get 3:1, but that's what it works out to, usually around 24:8 or 27:9.

New swing thought.

3 to 1, 3 to 1, 3 to 1 :-P

Definitely not suggesting that. I agree with what you said prior, good tempo is a effect not a cause.

    • I had a few tweeks in the bag. I took out my Mizuno pro FliHi 3 iron replaced it with a Titleist GT2 7 Wood. what a change that is, so easy to hit, it goes so high without it ballooning on me. I couldn't get rid of my callaway woods ( Rogue ST Max LS ) but changed the shafts to Diamana BB 63 stiff for the driver and 73 stiff for the 3 wood. Than i got myself a new putter Odyssey S2S jailbird yes i joined the centershaft family
    • First off all i think you should use the same ball all the time. We all strive for consistency on the course, the only factor you can be sure it will be always the same is your ball if you always use the same. So i think we should always use the same. I recently switched from Titleist Pro V1x to Srixon Z-Star Diamond because it i get a bit softer feel around the greens and same results on driver and irons
