First round of my senior club championship was today. I played with a gentleman I knew of but rarely play with. He is 76. He shot a 74 today, with an eagle on a par 4. I kept his card and congratulated him on the achievement. He shrugged. It was the 4th time this year he beat his age along with matching it another four. He did it for the first time at age 71.  I'm sure the guys on the senior tour do it often but I thought it was noteworthy for one of the unwashed masses. He hopes to continue to do it into his 80's with a solid exercise and diet plan.

How rare is it on your courses?

Hmm I play with my old man and his senior buddies at a local muni on Mondays, him and another guy are 71 and break 70 pretty routinely on the par72. That's roughly 2/8 people.

Theres also a 92 year old that breaks 80 on a good day. He cusses like a sailor and teases me for being a short hitter but I've learned to pay attention to seniors. Their experience will show you how to save that par :)

I have aways to go to "possibly" shoot my age. 10 years maybe?

As for the guy who cusses a lot, it's been my expirience that those older folks who cuss a lot actually know what they are talking about.

? I wonder if I could shoot 26 on the par 30 exec. 9 hole?!?

Maybe if I eagle'd #9.. 260 yard par 4 but the south wind is in your face. Gotta catch it right to drive it.

Edit: I'm going to make this a 2017 goal!

I was able to shoot my age for the first time when I was 67, and have now done it 14 times (8 times this year since turning 70). It has to be easier to do as you get older...up to a point, anyway. I used to play with a guy who I first met when he was 81. Over the next 11 years, I saw him shoot his age at least 50 times. He recently passed away, but I was told by his son that he'd shot his age over 150 times overall. Pretty amazing!

I used to play with a guy who was shooting his age pretty regular when he was in his late 60's. Shot his age or better nine consecutive rounds when he was 72. Myself I have come close but never did it. Shot a 69 when I was 66 and a 70 when I was 69 choked on the 18th.  Many physical problems since and I have not broken 80 once this year. Going downhill fast I guess. ;-)
