Hi all

I was quite intrigued by the latest talk of sidesaddling so I tried it out. I struggled a bit with consistency so I tried sitting on my haunches with right hand near bottom of shaft and left on the grip. I was very surprised by my accuracy. Now I just want to know if this stance is legal. I can not find anything in the rulebook that forbids this. Anyone out tried this before?

So long as you comply with R16-1e, you're fine.

Rule 16-1e. Standing Astride or on Line of Putt
The player must not make a stroke on the putting green from a stance astride, or with either foot touching, the line of putt or an extension of that line behind the ball.

I'll probably receive a few glares and comments when I start knocking them in this weekend. I'll keep my rule book close. :-D Thanks for the reply

I do this; I started 6 months ago after reading the book and watching the movie "Seven days in Utopia." It seemed gimmicky at first, but strangely enough, Breeden was talking about it the next night on his show. I took that as God's telling me to give it a whirl. I found it's easier for me to judge my speed and better get my bead with this method.

While they may think otherwise, no one has ever said anything negative to me... but they do ask about it once I put down the first few putts.

Fifteen years ago I asked the USGA Rules department if a player would be allowed to putt while kneeling or sitting. They replied that both were permitted within the Rules. As yet, I've tried neither. ;)

You could putt lying down on the ground so long as you're not straddling the line. ;-)

(And you make a legal stroke at the ball… no pool cue style shots.)

I'm gonna get rich, Jack "Hammer" Hamm style, with a "revolutionary" super short hockey stick style putter that you hit knees on the ground, sitting on your heels!  It gets you so close to the ball that accuracy is improved 92% and distance control 84%!
