Everything starts and ends with the greatest name in golf Tim "Lumpy" Herron. True Classic

Of course there's Tiger and the Golden Bear the Black Night and the Hawk for really Good Names.

The aforementioned Lumpy might head up the cast of less than desirable nick names. The newest addition to this list is undoubtably "Two Gloves" Every time I hear it I just think of the Monty Python Sketch about Arthur "Two Sheds" Jackson. Watch the following and replace Arthur "Two Sheds" Jackson with Tommy "two Gloves" and you'll see what I mean.

Tiger's not a nickname. It's his real name.
One nickname I don't particularly care for is Woody "Aquaman" Austin. I would hope that within the next year or two, people stop calling him that just because he fell into a lake while playing.

Aside from the pre-mentioned:
Ernie Els, the "Big Easy"

Michelle Wie, the "Big Wiesey"

The worst nickname is Alice, whenever a male's putt ends up significantly short. Unless you're talking to a certain "golf monster," in which case calling him 'Alice' is perfectly acceptable.

Tiger's not a nickname. It's his real name.

Tiger born Eldrick Woods got his nickname from a Vietnamese soldier friend of his father, Vuong Dang Phong, to whom his father had also given the Tiger nickname. Woods became generally known by that name and by the time he had achieved national prominence in junior and amateur golf was simply known as "Tiger Woods." On his twenty-first birthday, Woods legally changed his name from from Eldrick to Tiger. (courtesy Wikipedia)

Wasn't Tiger actually his given middle name?

Tiger's not a nickname. It's his real name.

I think he ought to be Woody "Nutcase" Austin, that would be more appropriate. That guy isn't quite wired right, but he's a great ballstriker.

Here's a few more that could round out my foursome:

Fuzzy, Chi Chi, and the Great White Shark.

I've been given a pretty good one. Some of the members call me, "the Real Deal". It rhymes with my last name. I've also got a bad one, "Men's Small Petite" My boss calls me that cause I wear size S in most golf shirts. I like it the nickname though.

On Tour?
Best: The Lion. Love him or hate him, John Daly brought millions to the game and people all around the sports world know who he was back in the 90's.
Worst: Aquaman. It was funny for about a week. Now it's just old.

Personally?
Best: Big Dog. It just ties in with the way I play.
Worst: Big Dog who hits it like a little puppy .

My favorite tour nickname - tie between monty's "Mrs. Doubtfire" and Miguel Jimenez as "Crime" he had a reputation of paying caddies poorly, so "Crime doesn't pay!"

my 2 personal golf nicknames are "fire" and "eore" fire because when i hit the ball really far into the tall grass, i should probably light a fire to burn away the grass to find it, and eore because i used to get really down on my self for bad shots, like the pooh bear donkey-i dont anymore, but the name stuck

the nicknames my friends give me on the course should not be repeated
Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

For me, I've already gotten the atrociously lazy, "Lefty". And, will wonders never cease, I've heard the always hilarious, "You're on the wrong side of the ball! Haw haw haw!" joke!!

One that amuses me is from work. The nurses from one of the units I work in have taken to calling me "International", because I've learned a smattering of various languages and at one point I was taking an orientee with me from room to room... Room One: Spoke Spanish casually to the Spanish-Speaking patient. Room Two: Spoke Russian casually to the Russian-Speaking patient.

Now, that, thanks to absurd odds at play, happened to be the two languages I could speak remotely competently. However, the orientee did not know this, so I played it off as if it didn't matter what language was spoken... and word got around.

(Since then, I'm up to Spanish, Latin, French, Gaelic, Russian... and I'm trying like hell to pick up some German as my girlfriend is fluent and tends to yell at me in that language.)

Currently in my bag:  Under Revision

I'm either known by the shortening of my last name (since i'm italian no one can pronounce it right) to "Gio" or a nickname from baseball "rocket" (circa little league) or "Moose"...

In my Titleist 2014 9.5" Staff bag:

Wow I can't believe noone mentioned "The Walrus". Of course now he looks more like John Goodman.

In my Acuity bag:

Driver: HiBore XL
Woods: Acuity 3 Wood and 3I-hybrid
Irons: Acuity oversized cavity backs 4 - PWWedges: Tourney Silver Scot 192Putter: Acuity half-malletBall: XL 5000 Super Straight

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
