Odd it was formed in the winter, maybe not so much, too busy playing golf during the season. There's a timeline of the USGA's decisions and influence on golf and the US Open in the link.

Quote

In September, William G. Lawrence wins a “national amateur championship” at Newport (R.I.) Golf Club. In October, Laurence B. Stoddard wins a “national amateur championship” at St. Andrew’s Golf Club.

C.B. Macdonald, runner-up in both events, calls for the formation of a governing body to run a universally recognized national championship.

The Amateur Golf Association of the United States – soon to be called the United States Golf Association – is formed on Dec. 22. Charter members are Newport Golf Club, Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, The Country Club (Brookline, Mass.), St. Andrew’s Golf Club (Yonkers, N.Y.), and Chicago Golf Club.

Happy Birthday USGA!

I renewed a few weeks ago and have yet another US Open hat to add to my extensive collection.

Ball marks started appearing on new Titleist hats years ago, just trying to keep up with the Jones'.

Carry on my wayward drive

There'll be pars when you are done

Lay your weary wedge to rest

Don't you shank no more

Did you get your calendar yet?

Do the ball marks they've been putting on those hats the last couple of years annoy you? They kind of do, for me.

I just collect them. I don't wear them on the hat.

No calendar. I don't wear the hats either. I'm sure one day my kids will ask why I have a large collection.

Happy birthday.

I don't wear the hats either, for the most part. I have a lot of hats. I should throw some out.

We get two because I have my wife join in the Couples category. It's like $10 extra.

I gave the one from two years ago to a friend visiting from Australia to give to her golf-crazy husband. He proudly wore it all season and was the only guy in his club with a US Open hat!

Some guys in blue blazers saw some guys having a lot of fun playing golf, and they said, "We'll fix that."
