Hello folks,

The name is Jay, and I am a golf nut.  I don't get to play year round as the wisconsin winters don't allow for it, but play all of the time in the months when we play here.  Excited to go to Vegas in Feb and play a great track called Cascata.  Anyway, great connecting and see you around!

Cheers,

Jay

Welcome Jay!

Mind if I ask about your user name? Do you do reviews for golf watches?

Yes I am getting into that for a project I am working on.  But for the username, I goofed up and put that in there, I wanted it to be my first name and last initial but it looks like I cannot change it.

    • I really liked episode 14 - that was a good one. I listened to episode 9 for the first time late last week and didn't really follow it. I was out and about and my mind was wandering somewhat, so I definitely want to listen to that again. I got very lost with all the talk about green and red dots on the grip and how one of them is on top and one on the bottom or something like that. I'll listen again and if I still don't follow I'll come and ask about it here.
    • Day 254 - 2025-06-11 Planned power outage (that I only found about after the power was out), so while I waited for the Coke delivery… got some practice in. It was dark-ish, but I could see enough in the mirror.
    • I've been on a good stretch recently, 4 birdies on Friday, 4 today.  Friday didn't change anything, but today I got 17 (short par-4), but more importantly I got 12, a long uphill par-4 that I didn't birdie last year, and maybe not the year before either.
    • As I've mentioned (ad nauseum) before, I volunteer as a Rules Official a good bit, including a number of junior events.  On Monday we were at a course that had had about 2 inches of rain the previous day, so a number of bunkers had standing (temporary) water in them.  Not every player was impacted, but I suggested that a whole lot of them should review 16.1c.  It would have a lot more impact, be more memorable, now that they saw the conditions that the rules address.  We all learn the rules one little bit at a time.
    • This one is pretty logical to me, once you accept the premise that you play your ball form the tee into the hole.  If you don't find your ball, if you don't KNOW where it is, then you play another stroke form the last place where you DID know where it was.  But the rules allow the committee (the course, or whoever organizes the competition) to define specific areas which allow a bit of a reprieve from that requirement.  If you can be pretty dang sure (virtually certain) that your ball is in one of those special areas, you get more lenient treatment.  You don't get that more lenient treatment everywhere on the course, only on those special areas defined under the rules or by the Committee. For those who are interested in a better understanding of the rules, I highly recommend getting a copy of "The Principles behind the Rules of Golf".  It's not quite current with the rules, but its an excellent outline of much of the reasoning that has gone into them.  Its really cheap, you can get it here: Principles Behind The Rules of Golf: Paperback (effective through 2018 to 2019) USGA Members, please sign in to receive your Member discount: Sign In This 72-page booklet is an update to the original version of The Principles Behind The Rules of Golf, according to the current rules book and interpretations.
