It's not a bad camera angle or weird artifact or something.

It's a grip that creeps into the palm.

And… I can stop mentioning it if you want me to.

I don’t believe my problem is a lack of comprehending the issue; I just ran through my gripping - I feel like the grip is in my fingers with hypothenar imminence atop the grip, BUT when I lower the club as if to address the ball, the butt of the club slides/migrated into my palm. Suggestions?....other than develop my hand muscles so they aren’t so puny?

While I usually don’t use a glove to play, the last 2-3 rounds I’ve started using a glove and it seems to help keep the club from sliding into my palm. The grip feels noticeably better with the glove, but I’m sure I’m not doing something right

I don't think it's about "puny hand muscles" at all. I mean… why does it slip?

I've taught kids and women who undoubtedly have weaker hands than you do. It's not about hand muscle strength IMO. I think you're just letting it happen.

Can you just not unhinge your wrists much or something like that? Is there a limit to your wrist range of motion there?

I was trying to be funny. I’ll keep at it in efforts to “change the picture”

No motion issues. I’ll review the grip thread

Grip it tighter if it’s moving on you. I doubt it’s a muscle strength issue; it’s probably because it feels different and you revert to what feels normal.

Intuitively I have started to grip tighter, but thought that wasn’t good. I appreciate the help!

@iacas, not sure I see much difference here during the swing, so I tried showing my initial left hand placement in the first video.

At address the grip still appears to be under the hypothenar imminence and, from I can tell, I am not feeling the grip shift into my palm during the swing with my glove on.

While I know “feel isn’t real,” subjectively, I feel a big difference in the way the grip sits in my hand and it’s so much better than before.

Been gone for two weeks. Still working on grip. Feels much better when I play and my ball striking is much improved. Still, not sure the picture is changing much. I’ll post a few swings later today if time permits.

@iacas, before posting my swing a little later today, do you see any problems with this morning’s video (above)? If you don’t like that, there’s no sense in me posting an actual swing since the above video shows my “base” or pre-swing grip

It looks better. I think you know by this point what you should be seeing/feeling.

I believe that to be the case. I am thrilled to move forward with any of my many other flaws.

8/24 - I think my last PP (prior to refocusing on my grip) was keeping my right elbow at or less than 90*

My swing feels much different than the beginning of the year and last week I hit 7/9 GIR which is awesome for me. I appreciate all that you guys do here!

@billchao/ @iacas, looking at my FOV immediately above, my set up looks funny...like I’m starting with too much weight on back/right foot. As long as I’m transferring my weight to front foot  (5SK #2), is this a problem or no?

I assume because it’s not been brought to my attention by you guys thus far, you don’t consider it to be my worst flaw, but because it’s a “set it & forget it” “no talent required” step, I’ll try to improve on it while working on right elbow angles...if it’s something that needs to change.

***I tried to delete this post, but couldn’t. ***

Addendum: I just rewatched Dave & Erik’s 5SK #2 video and I have a lot of weight transfer issues. I’ll just stick with my PP until I’m told otherwise.

Almost everyone has multiple things that can be improved in their swings. The idea with sticking to a priority piece is that it's hard to make one change, let alone several at the same time, and the piece is the one that has the greatest impact on your swing and can often fix more than one issue at the same time.

    • Which is actually the worse way to do it… Model Local Rule E-3 “When any part of a player’s ball touches part of the general area cut to fairway height or less [or identify a specific area, such as on the fairway of the 6th hole], the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball in and playing it from this relief area: Reference Point: Spot of the original ball. Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: [Specify size of relief area, such as one club-length, one scorecard length or 6 inches] from the reference point, but with these limits: Limits on Location of Relief Area: Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point, and Must be in the general area. In proceeding under this Local Rule, the player must choose a spot to place the ball and use the procedures for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b(2) and 14.2e. But, for the purposes of applying Rule 14.2e, the player has only chosen the spot on which to place the ball once the ball has been set down, and the player has let the ball go with the intent for that ball to be in play.  After a ball has been placed and is in play under this Local Rule, if the player then proceeds under another Rule that provides relief, this Local Rule may be used again. You could write it as… “When any part of a player’s ball touches part of the general area, the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball in and playing it from this relief area: Reference Point: Spot of the original ball. Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: a folded scorecard from the reference point… If a player can move from the rough to the fairway (or vice versa, as a lot prefer to perch the ball up in the rough if they can), good for them. So the model local rule is actually often more forgiving about the lie (because the general area is the general area) is fine.
    • Day 111: 4/16/24 Stack Full Speed Spectrum training session 24/24. Finished 2 mph below my top speed which happened in sessions 6 and 18. Progress check in 2 days.  Hoping to make gains for this program.
    • Most clubs that implement preferred lies also require that the type of lie remain the same. I.E. you cannot move the ball from rough to fairway. Does your league require the same?
    • I might have to work on the putting arc and face control. The putter feels closed on the way back and opening the face and pushing putts right. Lots of misses to the heel of the putter. I do think I’m going to stand over the ball less. One glance and the hole then pull the trigger.
    • Day 532, April 16, 2024 Went back again and played nine holes, then spent two hours on the range. Got to using my arms more.
