I think these are all good changes.  I'm glad to see them removing penalties in situations where people make mistakes that don't give them any advantage.  I also like that the Ball Moved During Search rule requires you to put the ball back under an object if that's where it was, protecting the spirit of the rule.

Ball Moved During Search

This is one I don't particularly love, but can learn to be okay with. I'd argued previously that players should take care around a ball in play. I still think that's important.

But I'm also reminded of how this actually played out. Caddies and the players when looking for their ball would often look nowhere near where their golf ball was, because if they moved it, it was a penalty, but if the outside agencies moved it, it was fine.

So initially I'd be against this, and I can see players arguing over what kind of lie the player has to re-create. But maybe it won't be a big deal.

No Penalty for Moving Ball on the Putting Green

Meh. Whatever. Saw this coming when they added the 18-2 Local Rule. :-P Not a fan, but… it's fine.

Standard for Deciding Why a Ball Moved

They basically took this from 50% to "virtual certainty."

Replacing Ball When Original Spot is Not Known

Fine. Just keeps the ball from rolling away after a drop even though you've estimated a spot.

Ball Moved During Search

Another very good change.

No Penalty for Moving Ball on the Putting Green

I can live with this one.

Standard for Deciding Why a Ball Moved

I like this change in the responsibility clause.

Replacing Ball When Original Spot is Not Known

Okay.... no feelings one way or the other.

Right...and I do like that there's more consistency across the course (eg, the putting green).

    • I figured it out......no it wasn’t the hat.....Lol. I was always taught to swing inside out, but took this too literally. My path was incorrect as I finished to far out and not around my body. I rarely ever hit slices. But this causes me to lead with the hosel and shank. I was able to fix it with the this tip from Saguto golf. Thank goodness! I hope this helps someone.
    • It'll be free for the first round Thursday, but then you'll need to be subscribed to PGA Tour Live afterwards.  If every shot is available, I hope the interface makes it easier to pick the player or hole or whatever filter is used. Every Shot Live returns with a twist Every player. I wonder how they're going to do this, I only see the options below. If every shot is available, how are you supposed to choose?   I already have an account on NBC/PGA Tour live, but it's dormant and they have my cc#, but the one free day isn't charged. Below are the screens I got to get the Thursday access.
    • By the way, I'm not doubting your results. I'm just curious how you know it's 16 yards? and if you were fit for the old gamer because I'm wondering if and when that kind of a jump in yardage could be available to the rest of us.
    • Sorry, didn't realize there was 40 something pages on this. I vote no also.  I've always thought it was weird to even suggest that it should be. I mean where does it all end? What's next? If a ball takes an odd bounce are we going to move it to "where it would have been if not for the odd bounce?"
