Hey guys, just wanted to introduce myself as i will probably be creeping alot here lol. I was surprised to see no markers in Texas on the member map! I'll add mine when i get more than a couple mins to sit down.

I've lived in East Texas all my life and grew up playing baseball. Even after school i played mens city league from about 20 to 30 before i finally took a break due to work/family and whatnot. So i was getting restless and a buddy of mine had been nagging me to go play golf for a while now. I kept telling him, "hell no i dont wanna go play that boring ass looking game." Finally one day i was really bored and he made sure to throw in that "just come drink a beer with me" catch phrase. I took it. Bait, sinker and all. 31 years old before i ever picked up a golf club. Probably shot about a 140. And a couple months later i was blowing money i didnt have to get a set of golf clubs :p ......now im hooked. That was about 8 months ago.

So now i try to play once a week and i love the game but its so aggravating! And definitely alot harder than i ever could have thought. My best game now is 104 and i have been staying under 110 the last month or so. I dont really have the money for lessons so my swing up until this point is 99.9% self taught from just practice, reading and youtube. Mostly just lots of practice in my net and trying lots of different things. I've completely changed my swing a few times and think ive come a good ways and getting close to be doing it all my own. Its getting to the point now im not sure what/how to fix. My driver seems to be taking the most off my game right now cuz i have a pretty nasty hook or hard draw most of the time, so i end up playing from the woods or only 100 yards from the tee box cuz it rocketed to the ground like a dead duck. Its nice when its straight tho! Had a few that were about 290 and right down the middle......those make me all warm and fuzzy lol.

This seems like a really nice community so i just had to join up. I can be a little stubborn sometimes so just slap me around if i get a little hard headed ;)

Welcome Noob.  You'll enjoy the site.  I thought you might be a baseball or softball player by the firmly braced front leg, head back, in your my swing video.  Might not work as well for the golf swing.  Good speed through the impact zone I might add!  You'll get good feedback here.  Enjoy your new journey.

Welcome from Michigan.   I think a lot of the forum members were where you started.   Enjoy the forum post often and ask questions.   Read the "How to" section and learn all you can about the forum.    Learn how to record your golf swing and post it.   You'll find that the knowledgeable will give you some great tips to improve.

Welcome!

Stubbornness is fine. It's just when folks sometimes combine that trait with cluelessness that they get into trouble around here:-D

Another good resource for new players to dive into is the "instructional content" found under Info in the dropdown above.

sounds good, ill check that stuff out. problem is i do way too much reading and only soak in a portion of it lol. theres just so much to this game and many different contradicting thoughts. ill weed it all out sooner or later! i apparently did too much practicing this last week for the games i had today and now my hands are killing me. think im gonna have to take a break this week

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? TIGER WOODS' AMATEUR VICTORIES YEAR WIN(S) 1984 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1985 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1988 Boy's 11-12 Junior World Golf Championships   1989 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships   1990 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships, Insurance Youth Golf Classic   1991 U.S. Junior Amateur, Boys 15–17 Junior World Golf Championships, Orange Bowl International Junior Look at some other AJGA Players of the Year. How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
