My hometown finally got a professional football team. That's two pro teams in a year after never having any. Can't say I'm thrilled to hear it's The Raiders.

Why not? They were one of the best young teams in football last year, and their QB was in MVP contention before the injury.

Unless you mean you're sad they're taking the team out of Oakland (which I'd be with you on).

Just not a fan of their fans for one. I would have rather had someone like the Rams. Would have fit better.

I feel bad for the fans in Oakland. I think the Rams or Chargers would've been a better fit. I don't think LA needs 2 teams.

Well you don't cheer for the fans in the stands, and I think that element you don't like with their fanbase is blown out of proportion, other teams  have fans that most would rather not have to sit next to also Philly for one comes to mind. I have been to quite a few home games in Oakland and have never had a problem and have never seen a fan from the opposing team treated beyond the normal level of heckling someone would recieve at any other teams stadium. Also during the game they display a text number you can contact if you see any behaviour that is unacceptable, overall watching a game there is not near what it gets stygmatized as. The new stadium seat prices are going to price out quite a bit of any possible bad element types and being Vegas I suspect the stadium is going to be filled with quite a few indifferent fans that got comped seats and people just seeing a game for the novelty.

Even a quick internet search shows national news about three brawls involving Raiders fans (I stopped reading headlines after that, sure there was more) just last season. One in KC after Chiefs won, another involving Panthers fans, and one that involves Raider fan on Raider fan violence, so no debating whose fans started that one.

I know there is a difference between true fans and the others who like to wear Raiders gear because their just so gangsta (been that way since the 80s all over-thanks MTV). It is interesting about the number they put up that you mentioned, have been to several NFL games (some massive rivalries like Bears-Packers) including last year, and have never seen that before. I'm not sure it's a Ringing endorsement for Raider nation as opposed to a result of past actions :-\

Not to worry.  I don't imagine too many LA Raider fans will remain LV Raider fans.

My take is the "LVRs" will eventually move out of Vegas (if they actually do move here) once the novelty wears off due to lack of ticket sales. Locally, in my opinion it will be tough to generate a consistent fan base. 90% of the local big money is controlled by a very, very small portion of the local population.

I know the big belief is that Vegas is only  an hour plane ride away, and Raider fans will make the trip. That does not include the non flying 2-3 hours to get to the airport. 4-6 hours by car from the L A area. Multiply those non game traveling hours by 2. All of a sudden, out of town ticket holders are spending 11-12, plus hours to watch a football game, with all the added costs.

Last I heard the new stadium won't be ready until (maybe) 2020. What happens between now and then if Oakland does build new stadium? Even if the Raiders are actually gone, what happens to the LVRs fan base if Oakland gets another NFL team for their local fans?

The new "room tax" to help fund this business venture is already taking some heat from visitors. I hear this from friends in the business.

As a life long resident of Vegas, this is one of those things that fall under " I will believe it, when I see it" scenarios. Sure, a few key decisions have been made, but there is still a lot of work to do for this to take place.

The tax is 0.88% increase on an already 12% room tax, it's hard to quantify someone complaining about a less than 1% increase on a hotel room who will probably drop a nice chunk of change in the casino, Oakland is not going to build a stadium it's just not economically feasible while they still owe money on the previous renovation in 1995 somewhere near 100 million. The Raiders are moving, 31 owners approved it and everything is already in place the financing after Adelson left was picked up by BofA , the only part that really remains in question is attendance and in todays NFL it's not as important as it was once believed, ticket prices are going to be much higher in Vegas, Oakland was near the bottom at $71, Chicago near the top at $131 so I'll bet LV tickets will be near the highest which will deter much of the element most connect the Raiders with. I expect the casinos are going to use tickets for weekend getaways and target opposing team markets for the date their local team is in town, I don't think Raider home games in LV will be as much a home field advantage as Oakland was or even as intimidating to other teams fans.
