Trail Wrist Throwing

  1. 1. Do you agree or disagree with this statement: if you can't hit a short chip shot without "flipping" the club or "throwing" the trail wrist, you'll never be a great golfer.

@iacas Do they flip when you pull the ball and just ask them to chip without it? Wondering if it is ball anxiety.

A lot will do it fine without the ball. And that's part of the point.

Yes, thank you for the clarification, it is part of the point you're making. It's like ball yips -- wonder if they look in front of the ball instead of at the ball, it it would help - so they are not ball focused. If so, perhaps confidence grows. My full swing at the moment is better without a ball... attempting to tell myself don't think about the result, go through the process.

I just went through an hour long clinic on putting and chipping, and voted "I agree".

By leading the hands, it seems to maintain control. If you can time it such that the bounce comes into play it seems to improve height, but that's harder to do. I'll try that this Saturday for part 2 of this clinic. I holed two shots out of 8 attempts chipping with the leading hand method with some nice and easy bump and runs. It seems to work. The instructor said its the same for every shot in golf.

Doesn't really matter. I'm telling them to make the motion regardless of the result of the shot. They're not hitting a ball anywhere specific, they're just making a motion with a ball there.

And if they can't, they'll really never be very good at golf, if they can't just make themselves do that.

If you watch here with Rogers,  it looks quite throwy.  Using the bounce not delofting and exposing the leading edge.

There was a two and a half hour video available of a Rogers short game clinic and except for twenty minutes or so it was basically him telling stories.  No damn Elkingclown.  In the video he laid out his method for a pitch and also a very simple chip.  I watched the key part many times before the video got taken down.  Rogers used the analogy of tossing a ball.  Rogers does have a specific method and I like it.

Yet, you seem to be ignoring how far open he has laid the club face! It's at least 45*!
