I finally got to play Mt Woodson Golf course in Ramona CA for first time in over 15 years. Par 70 67.3/129 from the white tees.

Starter let me head out on the back nine first where I scored 3 over par including 1 birdie, 1 dbl, and only 2 bogies for a score of 39.

Front nine I had ALL Bogies saving the last hole which was par for a score of 42.  Grand total for the round 81,  bringing my index down to a 19.7.

Beautiful layout, hills and valleys, woods, mountains, wooden bridge spanning the canyon 150 feet. I saw a sign stating "Danger - Alligators",  I don't know if that was a joke or not, but was too afraid to ask lest I be naive. (Swamp area). Could be, I suppose, but doubtful unless somebody put some there. If I had played the forward tees, I am confident I would have been just a little over par, or maybe even break it.

Congratulations, great playing.  I'm sure by now you've gone over and over the round in your mind, what did you do better than normal?

Thanks. I studied the score card beforehand and decided in advance those holes I would opt for something other than driver. Secondly, I started trusting my distances realizing that I have lost quite a bit of yardage the past 18 months or so and simply went for lower lofted clubs trusting that I would not be long. I hit a lot more greens and putter was working.

Nothing special about today, other than they birthday round they offered within 7 days on either side of the actual date, today was the first opportunity, so I took it.

I did the round in 3 1/2 hours!

As @DaveP043 alluded to, it is important to exercise a bit of strategy. Things like "don't go through the green into worse trouble" Being aware to minimize your misses, using landmarks, position.  Only trouble is, that for example, I might aim for a fairway bunker to avoid other trouble and wouldn't you know it, every time I concentrate and do that, guess where I end up?.....yup   In the Bunker!  Actually giving some thought to what club to pull and be willing to change your mind before you commit. Take that extra club, or take one less.

Nice job!  Sounds like u really focused on what holes to score on etc...

I find some days I just go through the motions but when I focus and have a plan good things happen.

Keep it up!

Thank You.  I think had a lot to do with the fact that I am getting in more "actual" rounds. Until recently I only got out maybe once a month or so. Now it seems twice a week. It really makes a difference and having actual experiences to recall and put into a situation on demand is huge.

Nice job HJ.

Thanks. Hopefully some can benefit from any insights I received either accidentally or by design (blind squirrel and acorn thing).
