Has anyone here been through a TaylorMade fitting experience at their local club/range?

I am going to one on Friday, it is the first club fitting I have ever had. I am interested in the M family of drivers or the Callaway Epic, so I think this will give me a good baseline for which to start the comparison, I plan on upgrading this winter, maybe for Christmas.

I'm assuming I should bring my current driver and 3 wood correct?

From what I read on their site, they will have a launch monitor there and they upload the data into a portal I can access online after the fitting.

I will share the numbers and a writeup of the experience after I complete it on Friday.

Any other thoughts/considerations to keep in mind or questions to ask the fitter?

I went through a Callaway fitting at the course for the clubs I have now.

They had a TM fitting as well on another week, and I tried out a few clubs but didn't find anything appealing. However, about 40% of my club bought M1 and M2 drivers, at least that's how it felt to me seeing so many M1 and M2 style drivers around weeks later. So, if I had to guess, their experiences with a TM fitting was probably very good. :-)

A lot of guys at my club play both the Epic and M family. I hit them the same distance and got almost exact numbers but the muted sound of the M is what steered me to the Epic. Ask a lot of questions and just let the fitter guide you a bit. It will be a fun experience and amazing when you can pair numbers to a swing and see how the newer technology can help your game.

So I just got back from the fitting. It was a great experience!

I got there and met the fitter who instructed me to get loose and hit a few warm up shots with my current driver.Once I was loose he then had me hit a few with my current driver while he watched and gathered some trackman data. The numbers were ok with my current driver, 235-240 average carry rolling out to around 250. Launch angle was very low at around 5-6 degrees, all of which is typical for how I typically hit it on the course.

He started with the M2 10.5 degree. Hit a variety of different shafts, at least 5 or 6 of different weights and flexes.

Ultimately ended up getting the best numbers with the Aldila NV 2KXV Orange Shaft, 65G, S flex. Loft turned up just a bit to 11 degrees and a slight upright lie angle. This is the shaft which is a $0 upcharge shaft if I did choose to buy directly from Taylormade.

http://www.aldila.com/nv-2kxv-orange/

Distance increase to right at 250yds average carry, rolling out to 275yds. Launch angle increased to 9-11 degrees, ball speed was right around upper 150s with a few reaching 160. That was with a -3.0 attack angle, so I know there is room for even more distance if I can get that to a positive angle of attack.

Personally I have never launched a ball that high consistently, so I was very pleased with the flight.

After the driver I hit a couple of the 3 wood with the same model shaft and was consistent 230 carry rolling out to 250, but my main focus for today was on the driver, as I already have the 2016 M1 3 wood which I hit pretty well.

Here are a is a pic managed to snag as well. He also had numerous wedges, hybrids, M1, M2, P770 and even the P790 irons which just came out. Screenshot_20170901-182042.thumb.png.9a76d2275646eb29915f431a15f98a6f.png

Overall a fantastic experience and I will be looking into ordering that shaft but I think I will put the 2016 M2 10.5 degree head on it to save me some money, from what I have read there doesnt seem to be much difference between the 2016 and 2017 M2.

Excellent choice and kudos to the fitter who didn't push u into the more expensive and " no better" 2017 model.  I did the same thing last December.  My fitter, Ace of Clubs, put me in the 2016 M2 for obvious reasons plus it saves money.  I have never hit a driver so well and so long in my life.

Congrats on pulling the trigger on a great club AND letting the fitter do his job fitting u having an open mind.

I did a driver fitting last weekend. I hit the M2, Epic, and G400 vs My G20. There was very little difference between the Epic,G400, and my driver. The M2 was 10 yards shorter.

So today I actually managed to snag a 2017 M2 from ebay for just over $200. It has senior flex shaft in it right now which was why I was able to get it so cheap. I managed to get the aldila shaft too for $100 so I managed to stay right at my budget of $300 and get the 2017 model. Win win!

Is it an optimally 15 degree loft or something?

I got the 12 degree model, which I will turn down to 11.25 to match the loft that I was fitted for yesterday.

The 12 degree model can be turned down to 10 and up to 14 degrees.

Cool, and nice that you got properly fit and didn't have to spend $$$ for the club. Congratulations. :-)

The M2 has been delivered to my house a few minutes ago which was a few days early! The shaft is supposed to be here tomorrow, but I think I will take the head and put it in my current R1 shaft and take it to the range tonight and give it a go.

Another person fitted into M2 here. It has been worth every penny.

Took the M2 head to the range last night and hit it using my current shaft just to get some swings with it, I LOVE it!

When I opened the box, the driver was still in the original factory packaging and shrink wrap, brand new! Even though the ebay post said it was in mint condition and had been hit once or twice. If it was, it was hit with the shrink wrap still on the clubhead. So that means I was able to get a 2017 M2 driver head, Aldilda shaft and clubhead cover for aprox. $300, would have been $400+ and a 2 week wait if I ordered that same setup from Taylormade directly!

Sounds amazing, ball jumps off the face, and for the first time ever on a driver, I can feel where on the clubface I hit it and if I centered the strike or not.

There is are some dirt mounds off to one corner of the driving range, took the range finder to them and got 250 yds, first two hits I did at the mounds I cleared them in the air! Me and my buddies have tried from time to time to reach those mounds but none of us have ever been able to clear it in the air before.

The dispersion was a little more than I'm used to, especially with some drives actually going left, but that has partly to do with my old shaft not being correct for me. I should be getting the new shaft today and I'm planning on going right out to the course tomorrow afternoon. Excited to get some GameGolf distances and see exactly how far this is going.

This could be a game changer if I was able to have 200-220 left into par 5s instead of 240-250 like I do most of the time. I feel way more comfortable hitting my 3 hybrid off the deck compared to my 3 wood.

I love the looks as well. I have never felt so confident over the ball.

    • I mean, a golfer is trespassing and damaging property. So, golf rules don’t supersede state laws. 😉 Like, if it isn’t marked and is off golf property. The right thing to do is take an unplayable lie or take stroke and distance.  Also, this is a liability for the course. The homeowner could easily say the course is liable for damage done because they knowingly didn't mark their boundaries which allowed golfers to trespass and damage property.
    • Interestingly enough, if the course (the Committee in Rules terms) doesn't mark the boundaries, there is nothing out of bounds.  I realize that neighboring homeowners would take a dim view of golfers whacking balls from their backyards, but that's what the Definition of Out of Bounds requires. "All areas outside the boundary edge of the course as defined by the Committee."
    • I had two events the past two days. Yesterday I was playing a course blind. Hit it solid. Hit 9/14 fairways, 12/18 greens, 34 putts. Many of those putts were the result of balls that were close-ish to the hole when they landed, but wound up a long way away once they'd finished rolling (backwards mainly). Then today, hit 11/13 fairways, 11/18 greens, 37 putts, and shot 80. 8 over par and it wasn't particularly pretty. My big problem today was my pitching. I was inside 100 yards of the hole and off the green on 9 occasions.  1st - drive to about 75 yards, fanned a 58 degree short and right. On the green, but a good 40 feet away and good two putt from there (so took 3) 2nd - laid up to a bunker and it's narrow past it, so had 165 in, missed it right with an 8 iron. Wet rough, chip from about 5 yards off the green and the club snagged. It got on the green, but only temporarily. Overcorrected a bit on the next one and hit it a bit firm and it rolled out to about 35 feet. Putt didn't break and it ran on a bit and I missed the one back (greens were fast and a little bumpy, which didn't help, but doesn't excuse either). (took 5 to get down from close to the green) 4th - had about 95 from the right rough, hit it on the green and two putts (3) 5th - 90 from the fairway, tugged it and it got a firm bounce, chipped on and hit what I thought was a decent chip, but it ran out down the hill and two putts from 20 feet (4) 7th - 65 from the fairway, significant upslope and hit it a bit hard, ran long left against the collar. Tried to blade a PW, but it got under a bit so didn't advance it anything like far enough. Made a good two putt from there (4) 11th - 63 from the fairway, hit a squirrelly pitch on the green and two putts (3) 12th - 75 from the semi-rough, caught it a bit clean and it wound up on the back edge. Putting down a tier and it ran 8 feet past (that was actually a really good putt and couldn't have done any better I don't think) and missed that (4) 13th - 55 from the fairway, overcorrected and hit the big ball before the small ball. Then made a stellar up and down from 25 yards short to an elevated green with a putter (3) 15th - down in three from a greenside bunker (3) That was it. The other 9 holes I hit it on the green from outside 100 yards. So on those 9 occasions, I took 32 shots to get in the hole. 3.56 average. Terrible. Reason I'm posting this in here is to see if anyone has any suggestions for how to work on my contact with pitch shots. I don't have access to a grass range. Only mats and it's easy off a mat. Partly I think my problem is I've hit it off mats so much this winter that I've lost my judgement on where the ball is versus the ground because of the leeway granted. Open to ideas. I also suspect that under pressure I stand a bit closer to it and then get steep and hit down on it and it puts me in a bad place, but I can't seem to get myself to not do that.
