Slow round. Got one shot from 140 yards to less than 5 feet. Feeling a lot better. Still hit a few trees off the tee, but not as penal as previous rounds.

Practicing a lot more short game now. Guessing 25% of my practice is now short game and almost all of it is chipping and pitching. My game is improving overall, and I made sure all my fringe shots were checked as "off green" in game golf. I have two driving clinics coming up this week, so, I'm preparing for them by focusing on my driving swing. Driving was kind of bad my last round, and I still feel like a lot of luck was involved in my score. Hopefully, that will change as I gain some more confidence on the course. Still did only 2 practice and two rounds or less this week. My home course has a Bruins and Ducks game today. Will likely play my full round at San Dimas or Knollwood today.

Played a par 3 due to time constraints. I was so proud of my 10 GIR at and 8 over score all jazzed up thinking that I could improve a lot on a regulation course. I punched in my game stats and ended up with the same short game stats as on my last two 18 hole rounds and consistent with my 9 hole round yesterday. Totally bummed out :-P

I’m going back to my don’t care how I score mode of thinking again. Ignorance is bliss and I’ll be happier for it.

In the meantime, the people I played with thought I was a sandbagging ...

Working on my short game. Going to play/practice on this par 3 course a lot more.

Wedges in the yard. Trying to get the flighted feeling down. I usually just stick with my 1/2 to 2/3 swing, but it's probably time to step out of the box.

Went to Santa Anita GC today and practiced short game around the putting green. Practiced my putting as well. Honestly, my putting isn't going to get that much better even though I still get high 30s to 40 putts per round. My 6 to 8 foot putts are the key. I missed all my 8 foot putts yesterday, I'd like to make at least one or two per round.

Setup a circle 8 feet around a couple holes. The flat one was not too bad with 2/16 in the hole, but I missed 16/16 on a slight slope. I'll practice 32 balls a day this upcoming week.

More full swing practice. Trying to see where the release point naturally happens versus "holding it off".

Hit some shots, with a strong left hand grip. And stronger than normal right hand grip. (I can't do both my thumbs at 3:30 like Erik). I cannot hit a shot to the right with this grip if I tried...

Still trying to sequence my swings better with more lag. My irons seem to be going higher, but the same distances. They seem to spin a lot more. There's this one hill on the range where I can hit my 7i into a "cavity" and I know I made my distance. I hit that cavity a lot more times than normal. Loved watching the ball disappear into the sky and land in that spot. The extra spin makes the ball less visible at the apex, and the ball doesn't roll a lot either. My 5i seems okay, but my 4i is still lacking the height I want to see from it. I'm going to start rating my range sessions with the 1-10 scale used for solid strikes. My solid hit number for this session was probably above 7 for those 7i shots going into the cavity but 1 or 0 for the longer irons. Overall, more than 2. I hit about 20 balls with the height and trajectory I like.

Driver sucked. I was completely out of sequence trying to hold off my lag. I finally decided to turn my hips a bit faster to see if I can hold the lag more naturally. For 2 shots out of the 10 I made this way, I'd say they were "adequate". Not as far as I'd like to see them carry, but definitely more consistent. 3W sucked. No distance. Hybrid went about the same carry distance as my 3W.

Driver didn't suck today, even with the 102 degree heat allowing my balls to go further, I could tell the flights we pretty decent finally. My 3W also carried farther than my hybrid. Couldn't hit my 4i very well, but did manage to hit a few 5i shots with my desired trajectory.

Carried all the clubs about a club farther, but that's probably because the temperature is higher today.

Took my time on my shots and made a full shoulder turn. Turns out I was not making a full shoulder turn with any clubs yesterday and this morning. I ended up making a full shoulder turn ans managed to synchronize a few shots with the added lag. It's going to take a while, but I think I can get the directional consistency and flight I want by insuring these two elements are consistent in my swing.

Working synchronizing my full shoulder turn while retaining more lag through the hips. Also, having to consciously keep my lead wrist flat at the top, it's ingrained but I need to be aware of it at the top. Once I do that, it seems like it stays flat during my downswing. The shots feel way more solid through impact now, everything seems to be coming together. Once I get everything synchronized, I'll finally start working on hitting the sweet spot better. I'm currently using the entire face even though my distances seem pretty good now.

I am preparing for my "driving and long game" clinic, by doing some stretching and light swinging motions.

Clinic went well. The instructor helped me with my sequencing. Getting a little better, but "Rome wasn't built in a day." I'm signed up for Saturday's clinic as well. Hoping to get the sequencing even better. A little at a time.

    • Which is actually the worse way to do it… Model Local Rule E-3 “When any part of a player’s ball touches part of the general area cut to fairway height or less [or identify a specific area, such as on the fairway of the 6th hole], the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball in and playing it from this relief area: Reference Point: Spot of the original ball. Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: [Specify size of relief area, such as one club-length, one scorecard length or 6 inches] from the reference point, but with these limits: Limits on Location of Relief Area: Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point, and Must be in the general area. In proceeding under this Local Rule, the player must choose a spot to place the ball and use the procedures for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b(2) and 14.2e. But, for the purposes of applying Rule 14.2e, the player has only chosen the spot on which to place the ball once the ball has been set down, and the player has let the ball go with the intent for that ball to be in play.  After a ball has been placed and is in play under this Local Rule, if the player then proceeds under another Rule that provides relief, this Local Rule may be used again. You could write it as… “When any part of a player’s ball touches part of the general area, the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball in and playing it from this relief area: Reference Point: Spot of the original ball. Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: a folded scorecard from the reference point… If a player can move from the rough to the fairway (or vice versa, as a lot prefer to perch the ball up in the rough if they can), good for them. So the model local rule is actually often more forgiving about the lie (because the general area is the general area) is fine.
    • Day 111: 4/16/24 Stack Full Speed Spectrum training session 24/24. Finished 2 mph below my top speed which happened in sessions 6 and 18. Progress check in 2 days.  Hoping to make gains for this program.
    • Most clubs that implement preferred lies also require that the type of lie remain the same. I.E. you cannot move the ball from rough to fairway. Does your league require the same?
    • I might have to work on the putting arc and face control. The putter feels closed on the way back and opening the face and pushing putts right. Lots of misses to the heel of the putter. I do think I’m going to stand over the ball less. One glance and the hole then pull the trigger.
    • Day 532, April 16, 2024 Went back again and played nine holes, then spent two hours on the range. Got to using my arms more.
