Good name for a band right?

who practiced some Swedish death cleaning herself, describes it as being "like Marie Kondo, but with an added sense of the transience and futility of this mortal existence."

In Swedish, the word is "dostadning" and it refers to the act of slowly and steadily decluttering as the years go by, ideally beginning in your fifties (or at any point in life) and going until the day you kick the bucket. The ultimate purpose of death cleaning is to minimize the amount of stuff, especially meaningless clutter, that you leave behind for others to deal with.

You know, despite the very morbid name it makes a whole load of sense. Im a bit of a hoarder so i keep stuff "just in case", usually in the 'man drawer'. And dont get me started on golf clubs i have lying around in the house and shed.

My Mother passed away in 2012.   She was born just before the depression and could squeeze a penny until it dropped a quarter.   When we cleaned out her house getting it ready to sell, I took home enough paper towel and toilet paper to supply us for one full year.

I like the idea of reducing clutter in and around the house.   My wife....meh...

After my personal experience with my Mother's home, I given it much thought about reducing clutter.

Oh, yeah, I’m definitely thinking a lot about this lately.

My mother recently passed, and despite months of cleaning beforehand by me and my sibs, I still have dozens of photos, albums, etc. As well, we have “important papers” (mostly bills and bank statements) for the last 15+ years from my MIL (who recently moved into assisted living).

And since I’m now retired and thinking about selling our house, I’m more and more aware of how much junk I’ve accumulated myself (which, of course, my kids have made it very clear they have no interest in ;-)).
