Day 152 - Shot a new career low tournament round of 75 despite 2 penalty strokes and a missed 4 footer for eagle after hitting the best 3 wood of my life from 251. 🤮🤮

A lot of positives though, proved to myself I'm capable of grinding out a good score with my 'B' game.

Something to build on as I plan on doing local/state am tourneys next year.

Day 1 (04 Oct 23) - missed posting yesterday, so that’s twice in the last 28 days or so, so it’s start over time.
Hit some wedge shots before moving to long clubs with grandson using foam balls in the backyard. Goal was to be closest to pin or first over the fence.  Allowed to focus on accuracy and distance control.

Hit some putts on my matt at home. Used a yard stick to work on start lines. Also worked on the way the grip laid in my hands. Seemed to find something there, will continue working on it.

Day 40:

Hit 25 balls with 5-iron using Mevo+ to track. Did full pre shot routine before each swing to engrain setup changes. Swing focus was on neutral/open clubface during backswing (cupped wrist, earlier hinge). Really good session - goal with current work is to address the long left of left miss. Only 6 balls left of target, worst lateral miss was 8 yards left which is probably a GIR with middle of green as target, or at worst nGIR. Had some big right misses but I’m cool with that for now as the left miss is getting under control and the miss is one direction only.

Day 4: 10/5/2023

I went to the outdoor range today. Again, the weather has been simply incredible lately.

Spent a little time on my priority pieces. But I spent the lion's share of the time working with my driver. I spent my driver time in two major chunks.

1 - Trying to find the middle of the clubface. Lately I've been hitting most of my drives off the toe of the club.

2 - Start line. ... Start line... Start line. When I start the ball on the correct line, good things happen. When I don't ... well?

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Day 2 (05 Oct 23) - played 18 at my local course.  Took the first 1/3 of the round to get dialed back in to the old SLDR driver, 3w and 4h.  Finished with a less than noteworthy 91, including 3 penalties (all in water).  Shot of the day, green side bunker  on par 3 12th.  Tee shot goes there, easy 58 out that blades over, pitch back on for one putt bogie.  That was not the shot, the shot was the practice shot after the score was put down as I waited on the threesome ahead of me. Hit another ball out the bunker, comes out super nice, checks and releases to gently roll in the cup (too bad that was not the one that counted).  Still a good feeling.  Ping clubs going back in…

Day 153 - Short range session filming for Evolvr and then spent some time with driver trying to get my AoA positive.

It's tough. I'm doing everything I can think of to hit up on the ball and the best I could get was like +1 a few times and +2 once. I truly have no idea how people hit +5 or +6 upwards. Despite that I still had multiple 300+ yd carries even hitting down 1-2 degrees. If I can get to +1 or +2 consistently I think I'd be carrying like 320+ with relative ease.

Day 6: 10/6/2023

Outdoor range again today. Hit about 75 balls. Broke them up pretty evenly into 3 groups (approx 25 each).

First group worked on my priority pieces. Did that with 4 clubs: 9 iron, 6 iron, 5 wood and driver. Switching clubs every couple of balls.

Second group of balls worked on start line with the driver. Nearly all slow swings, some half swings, just trying to bullseye the intended start line. As I've mentioned before, if I start the ball on the right line, good things happen.

The last group of balls was all about where not how. I chose range targets from 35 to 250 yards and tried to hit them.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
    • Day 136 12-26 Had a different practice planned today but life happened. Worked on "wide to wide" and still working on remaining flowy. Starting the club head in front of the ball as a drill, is helping with the flow of the swing.
