My thoughts on that are if you take a faster backswing and maintain the 3:1 ratio then the downswing is faster, as well.  Not necessarily a bad thing.

Swings don't have to be 3:1.

Correct, they don't.   But almost all tour pros are between 2.8:1 and 3.2:1.  Be it Ernie Els or Nick Price or Justin Thomas.

I know it's seen frequently, but it doesn't rise to the level of a commonality. I know "Tour Tempo" pushed the idea, but… meh. I've never really cared.

Two of the first three people I looked at.

Anyway, I'm not worrying about it in my golf swing right now, and likely never will.

Day 5.  After work, had ten minutes hitting 6-iron (some flight some full) indoors, off a mat, into a net, not real balls.

Day 11

7i and driver, wit focus on ow far away I was setting up my address.  I saw on a video that I was reaching on my address that my down swing was almost casting. So my last coaching session went over this.

The results today were more than I expected. Only one mist in the 40 shots.

Day 15 - January 14, 2020

Full swing work again. This is going to be almost everything that I do.

Made a bunch of swings outside while the workers dug a moat around my yard. Basically.

Worked on full swing stuff from my last lesson again. 54 balls with a 7-iron, 50% full speed, working on delivering club face square at impact with new grip.

Day 6 -- January 14, 2020.

I spent 10 minutes, indoors, 6-iron, off a mat... a mix of the whiffle balls and some real ones (finally found the big box of balls I had been using at my previous place).  I hit some much more poorly today than the last few days, partly (I am guessing on the reason) because of soreness from the gym yesterday.

Day 12

6i only, not too much of a pull left today. I was very happy as distance was solid.

Watching my latest videos, I have seen how simple maladjustments to address and swing can creep in. I need to keep checking everything.

Day 43

Hit 20 balls today, working on my initial take of a pre-shot routine. Goal is to develop a consistent pre-shot routine. This is my first attempt at the concept, so will tweak as I find what works/doesn't work. All of this is done after taking two practice swings and selecting target line.

1) Identify intermediate point on target line within 3 feet of ball

2) Align club face to identified intermediate target with feet together, ball just off lead heel and feet parallel to target line

3) Adjust feet to widen stance appropriately for club and set ball position

4) Check grip (eventually won't do this, but have to until I stop reverting to super strong right hand death grip)

5) Get in address posture, and do waggle thing

6) Start swing

Day 16 - January 15, 2020

Full swing work again. This is going to be almost everything that I do.

Hit nine 9I, nine 5I, rehearsing several times in between. Each one was a little different, and I put a noodle in front of me to control start lines (right of the noodle). I felt a little thing about my left arm going higher, to help my right elbow have the room it deserves/needs.

Then, because a student of mine was putting, I watched and helped him for a bit, and then worked on my putting. Still pretty good. 🙂

Day 7 - January 15, 2020.  6-iron, indoors, off a mat, into a net, mix of real balls and practice balls (plus no-ball swings, of course).  I don't hurt as much as yesterday, despite squats and deadlifts (first time in ages for each) this morning.  Side note: my body will likely require me to practice putting tomorrow, and I probably should do that.

Day 13

Fell in love with my driver all over again!

30 shots today, average distance 230 yards, for me same at 360+ for Tiger in terms of joy!

Fairly good dispersion! Nice roll!

Improved speed for the weapon.

May it act the same tomorrow on the round!

Day 8.  Indoor putting for 10 minutes after social activities tonight (none of that is euphemism).  I hit a few wide left, didn't even make it halfway across the 36" yardstick, which may explain my 8.x strokes lost putting last weekend.

    • So I am aware that "the committee is allowed to set its own standards of player conduct in a code of conduct adopted as a local rule" (rule 1.2b) I also understand that there are some aspects that are allowed to be entered, and some that are not allowed.  My question specifically is: In which form does this code of conduct need to be available? Is it enough for someone to say "that's part of our code of conduct", or is it a requirement, that the code of conduct is in written form? Also, is there a need that the local rule points to the code of conduct in any way?   For better understanding: I'm playing competition and the next course that we play has a "no smoking policy". I don't have a problem with it, as I don't smoke anyway, but one of my team-mates does, and someone told him "You'll get disqualified if you smoke on the course".   Now I have looked at their local rules and there is no reference to a "code of conduct". I'm not sure if they even have an official "code of conduct" that states that smoking is not allowed.   I fully agree that he SHOULD respect this request from the club, but I am wondering if the club would really be allowed to DQ this player for this, if it's not properly documented in their local rules/code of conduct?  This is an official national amateur tournament, so not just something organized by a club for its members.
    • A few months back I purchased the following swing aid on Amazon ($130). It is solidly made of steel and heavy and stable in use. I use it both at the range and at home. Swing Plate Dual PRO by Jamie Brittain - Swing Analyzer Aid - Fits Standard 8mm Alignment Rod Sticks - Teaching Swing Plane Perfector - Indoor/Outdoor Golfing Practice. This winter I set a goal for myself to improve my backswing/downswing to be more consistent and on plane. I had a two way miss with my approach shots this past golf season. I have a hitting set-up in my garage, but I needed something to provide feedback while swinging the club. I came across the Swing Plate while browsing YouTube.   I set it up with the correct angles for my 8 iron. I started out with just the back rod in place, which prevents me from getting too far inside on the backswing. Started out slow and as I got comfortable increased my swing speed. Now I also came across a YouTube video on building a better backswing and getting more width in the backswing and added that to my practice. That video is here:    This video is a bit wordy since you are basically a fly on the wall as Ian gets a lesson. It took a few replays to be able to get the substance of the instruction. It was well worth the effort. Over the last two weeks I have been able to get out on the course and gauge how successful my practice has been. Overall, my consistency with approach shots has improved greatly. Incorporating the added width in my swing has also added a few yards to all my clubs.  What has your off-season training been like?
