Day 90: 3/2/2023

Today was a madcap crazy day at work.
I got some putting practice in. All of it was bead work.

Basically I used the putting mirror for a dozen balls, hitting six footers.
Then I did the gate drill into the putt-out perfect putt target.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Day 6 (3 Mar 23) - Played 18 at Minnesott today.  Switched it up a little by playing progressive tees (started on the back tee(blue) and progressed on set fwd on each successive hole.  They have five sets (blue-white-gold-red-silver) so I had four holes that were reasonably longer (1-6-11-16) than what I play as well as six that were shorter than usual (4-5-9-10-14-15).   I enjoyed rethinking tee shots and related approaches.  Great exercise for me in course management.

I took yesterday off as I was presenting to the WNY PGA section at our Education Day.

Today I did some downswing stuff. Speeding it up a little bit.

Not sure what the op means by streak. But in New England we just can’t Willy nilly pick a day to practice. So since the weather hasn’t cooperated much I’ve been to the range twice. 1st time was 24 balls. 7 iron then driver. (3days rehabilitation). Just swinging to get close to plain and yes I swung way too hard. The 2nd time was today 7 iron and 5 wood. 24 balls , just swing plain and creating muscle memory. I swung at 50% this time. Not sore yet.

More putting today. All about the bead work today. Gate drills and using the putting mirror.

I also did some pitching and chipping before it started pouring rain.

Started to do my overspeed training, but my elbow as giving me a little trouble so I laid off it. I have a golf trip coming up and I want to go uninjured.

Day 62: Played 18 holes. Bad front 9, much better back 9. Then went to the range and worked on my priority piece for about half an hour, and got some videos for evolvr. Productive golf day.

You can practice indoors. I think this is pretty clear:

26 of the last 28 days is a streak.

I’d love nothing more than to throw 5 minutes or more a day into my game. But it’s just not happening. So just a periodic weekly update is all I can manage right now. Thanks for the clarification

Day 92: 03/04/2023

I got to the indoor range early this morning. I started with @iacas's speed control putting drill. Then I spent 25 balls chipping at 3 different targets. After that I spent 25 balls hitting pitch shots of various lengths.
I warmed up just a little bit and then took video of my swing both DTL and Caddie View. I'm checking just a couple of priority areas. I have a golf trip in less than a week and I don't want to make any more large changes until after I get back. So, the first video was just confirmation. Then I did a couple of reinforcement drills with a 6 iron. I took some more video and felt okay about where everything is.

Next I pulled driver and did 2 slow motion swings and 2 full speed shots.

Went back to the putting green and spent 15 minutes hitting "makeable" putts.

Packed up and went home. Tomorrow will likely be my last really good practice day before my trip.

Day 93: 03/05/2023

One more early morning trip to the indoor driving range today. I started with the speed control putting drill, and I finished with the speed control putting drill. In between I worked on my chipping to a couple of different targets as well  as working on pitch shots. I did do a little work on my my full swing priority pieces but kept it short today. I hit 3 shots with each club in the bag. I also made a couple of attempts at the putting ladder drill.

The plan is to do some bead work on putting tomorrow and check ball flights at the outdoor range on Tuesday. Maybe sneak a little driver work in on Wednesday before playing rounds on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

    • Better late than never.  I got The Stack System over 2 years ago.  Problems with ruptured tendon and bone-on-bone knee stopped me from using it.  Foot was a year to full recovery.  Had the knee done in January.  This weekend was first full swings in quite a while, With spring here (at least according to the calendar) I’m finally going to do the program.  It’s 32 degrees with flurries tonight so I’m not sure exactly when I will start but should be soon.
    • Day 29  (6 Apr 26) - Snuck  a few balls with the 6i while waiting for the local school tournament golf match to start.  Worked on tempo - starting with 1/2 swings working to full while working the ball slightly from side to side.
    • Day 230 4-6 worked on wrist arching in downswing and hips. Going slooow today. Hit foam balls.

Since 98% of a ball's distance inside of about 150 yards is determined... The ShotScope LM1 is a $200 launch monitor that made waves last fall and at the PGA Show in January. Think of it like the PRGR or the Stack radar, but in a different form factor and with a better display. It's also got a rechargeable battery (no messing around with AA or AAA batteries), and a bigger, brighter, multi-color screen over the greyscale LCD on those units. I believe it still uses the same algorithms to "guess" at the distance given the club you've chosen, assuming a relatively moderate launch angle. I do not believe it measures your "VLA" (vertical launch angle). As we know from Dr. Sasho MacKenzie, ball speed for shots 150 yards and shorter accounts for about 98% of the distance the ball travels, assuming you didn't blade the bejeezus out of it, so the LM1 can, like other simple launch monitors, really help you dial in your distance wedges. I don't think ShotScope is honoring discount codes yet (you're free to try clicking the link and using the codes in the sidebar here at TST), and it's sold out for now anyway. But, you can sign up to be notified when it's back in stock. I'll update this thread as I continue to test the unit, but so far I really like: Ease of setup and use. The quality, brightness, and colors of the display. Battery life seems adequate. I'm not sure about five hours, but… it'll last well over a full session. The battery charges quickly and with a standard USB-C cable. I had some difficulties inside when players were hitting drivers into a net 13 or 14 feet away. Many swings reported 35 MPH, or 38, or 32. My hunch was that it was seeing the speed the screen moved, perhaps, as we tried a number of configurations. It was a solid screen, not a net, and later testing to an archery net that was 35 feet away yielded consistent and reasonable numbers every time.
