Day 160, April 9, 2023

Just some mirror work while watching the Masters today. Mostly after the finish to the third round, actually.

Erik J. Barzeski —  I knock a ball. It goes in a gopher hole. 🏌🏼‍♂️

Day 22:

Hit some balls with 4 iron, focusing on steady head/path. Used Mevo plus to measure. Feel like I need a physical restriction to keep my head from bobbing out ahead of torso.

Day 18: So, hit balls in the out building. I had posted a video of my swing and received some coaching on what was going on. Had to recalibrate some feels. Had to focus on my lead knee not just bending straight, but rather turning in and moving towards the ball a bit. Also, not getting my hips pushed forward with a straighter trail leg. The front leg work helped the trail leg stuff and seemed to make falling into lead side much easier. Positive session.

Day 14/15: 8/9 Apr

A few minutes of takeaway practice on day 14, a longer repeat of the same on day 15. Since I’m sometimes leaving the clubface open at impact I want to make sure I’m not introducing the issue by the top of my backswing. Lesson on Wed will focus on understanding why/when I’m opening the face.

Day 16: 10 Apr

Played 18 holes and went -2 nett. This was despite blustery conditions (15 mph with gusts of 25+ mph) and two blowup holes on 12 & 13 where I shot +8 gross. Whilst saddened slightly at not posting a new PB I’m delighted at how I played the rest of the round, including not letting the disaster on 12/13 bother me. Played the last 5 holes +3 gross.

Day 18: Went to the range for the first time today. Nice weather here. Worked on my lead leg not bending out over my toes. Loading up on back side. Had a fantastic session. Really happy. Had some so so swings but the move was really smooth. Glided through the ball.

Day 17: 11 Apr

More takeaway/backswing practice, focusing on making a full turn and putting the club in the “right place” at the top. Also worked on transition, trying to maintain the sensations that I’ve been working on with my coach through impact of an imaginary ball.

    • I'm not sure who we are referring to here. But that doesn't at all seem out of line.  Today in America it's pretty common to have to pay out about half of your gross income in taxes. This is when you include Federal, State and City Taxes. Plus sales tax, capital gains tax, marriage penalty tax, luxury tax and property tax. Many Americans pay more than half their income in taxes if they live in a high tax city or state. Or if their income is especially high. Where my wife and I live, for example, our Property Tax Payment is getting close to about twice our Mortgage Payment, and that's not really uncommon.  The idea is to offset at least some of these taxes by investing a chunk of what you earn. If this guy you are referring to, made a couple of not great investments, he may not have much that offset these taxes. He may also have purchased something like a multi-million-dollar home which has, for what ever reason, gone down in value. Or perhaps he is in the process of starting up a business venture that hasn't taken off yet.  Here's another way to think about it. Estimate how much money you've earned in your career. Then take a look at your net-worth. This guy's net worth is about 44% of his earnings. I can tell you our household's net worth is not near 44% of our lifetime earnings. Plus, this guy may have had to pay a percentage to a caddie, and/or an agent right off the top.

    • When comparing money across decades, keep inflation in mind. $100 in 2003 is worth $165 in 2023 according to this. There's also more money in sports in general today than before. The LIV players are still ridiculously overpaid with money coming from oil.
    • Day 12: Continued backswing mirrorvision work, did some full swing with balls, and a fit for golf workout. Elbow pain is gone, except for the motion of picking up my golf bag. Gonna try to restart stack next week.
