Day 42: Jul 27

Staying with the theme of trying to create a consistently neutral clubpath: spent an hour or so hitting 1/2 & 2/3 power shots into a net, focusing on clubpath.

Day 91 - Chipped, putted, hit some balls.

Hand path and posture are becoming more normal. I really like the ball flight and contact with irons right now.

Need to clean up 50-100yd wedge shots, everything is going so much further now so struggling to adjust in the 50-100 range.

Putted on the new putting green for awhile. The double-breakers are tough.

Day 43: Jul 28

Played 18 holes at regular course. Really good round (new PB I think) with lots of positives to take away. Also lots of things to work on: trust my rhythm off the tee (don’t force it); commit to the shot; improve long-distance putting. But it’s reinforcing the belief that I’m getting the hang of this silly game 😆

Day 270, July 28, 2023

Hit balls in the heat at GE3.0. Set up two mirrors and sweated through it. Same stuff:

  • Curl the right wrist.
  • Hands go out at 45° (feel).
  • Throw the back of the clubhead down behind my right foot.

Day 11: range night. Random practice with 40 balls, focused more on longer clubs. Everything is very solid. Then putted for about 40 minutes, focusing on 3-9 footers with some long lag putting mixed in.

90 minutes downtown. Hit probably 75 golf balls. Mostly worked on the "out and curl" part. Didn't worry a ton about the downswing.

Day 39 (29 Jul 23) - Got in an afternoon round with son and grandson at Harbour Pointe.  Was a round where it was a struggle from tee to green, however only lost ball was a wayward tee shot on hole two.  Found plenty of fairway bunkers to work from as well.

Day 44: Jul 29

Played in the monthly medal. Was -5 nett over 15 holes. Shame the game is played over 18 holes!!! 😆 Lots of lessons learnt: DO NOT lose my rhythm on the tee; consider all my options when in trouble, including taking an unplayable penalty. The point of that “in trouble” shot is to ensure I’m not in trouble on the subsequent shot. So think it through!

    • It is - I occasionally swing just a shaft to see what it's like. You can swing it seriously quickly, but it's like it has a mind of its own.
    • I understand the physics of it. 😛 I'm just saying it's funny looking (and feeling, the two times it's happened to me, ever).
    • Was that enough damage to let him replace the club?   😇

    • Yep - he's doing a whole lot of decelerating of the club by that point in the swing. When the club goes from I guess about 400g to 130g in an instant, that deceleration is going to stop it way faster than it normally would. I have heard it said that one of the reasons people can find it hard to swing much faster is because your subconscious knows that you have to decelerate the club after impact and if you don't it's going to hit you and it'll hurt, so it (your subconscious) makes sure you're not going fast enough to hurt yourself. By that rationale, if you could make a clubhead come off after impact like this, you might be able to swing it faster 🙂  As to the clubhead coming off, I had that happen to me once. Only in my case, the clubhead started coming off before I got to the ball and it twisted at the same time. Ball went about 45* to the left and the clubhead went pretty straight. Given how freaking good Rory's shot was there, I'm guessing his clubhead didn't do any moving until after impact.
