I played today and my cart had a gps. It was fairly helpful, especially inside of 120 yards. That being said, I would prefer if they jus had some easy to see yardage markers on the course.

I hate those carts. They ruin the course for me. The feature that they shut off when 30 yards from green is awful. Even if you’re behind the flags they still shut off. Then you look like an idiot reversing 50 yards just to get it working again. Awful awful awful.

Mine kept quitting on me if I got too far from the cart path. Once I was ON the cart path and it warned me to get back to it.

If they have GPS, I hardly use it, especially if I play the course often. I have a laser for pin distances. I order beers from a cart girl or pick them up from the house, so no, I wouldn’t order on the cart. That takes time and the touch screens are usually crap. So, no, I wouldn’t want gps on my courses carts. It hangs low and blocks visibility and is more for advertising the local chiropractor or new bar or whatever. I just want to golf I don’t need any more distractions.

It’s been a while since I played with gps carts, and I’ve only played with them a handful of times, but I always enjoyed them.

If the touchscreen works well and the gps is accurate, I’d go for it.

And I would order food from the cart particularly if it were a resort type course. I’m not a big fan of getting to the turn and having to wait for food to cook, makes me a little anxious that we’re slowing things down.

The only time I had a cart with GPS was on vacation where my buddy and I were playing with a friend who was new to the game. That GPS unit was positively disgusted at our crappy pace-of-play on that late afternoon. It showed how many minutes behind we were in big red numbers.

We had made sure nobody would be behind us when we made the tee time, so the GPS nagging was kind of funny.

Did it record how many beers you'd had?  :)  Those GPS carts are worthless, especially if it's "cart path only".  They are now a relic with the multitude of GPS apps for our phones and laser scopes.

Our owners eventually want this course to be a resort course (we are the standard public, daily fee course right now), so kind of like you said, we want to increase the value of playing here.  Do we absolutely need GPS? No.  But if we can add GPS at minimal to no cost to our regular players and to new ones, it adds a big plus!  There are 9 holes that have somewhat to fully blind shots, so definitely knowing where the group in front of you, without having to drive 200yds, would be good.

Phil, I can see their value at Eaglemont, seeing the cart over the hill, on holes 10, 15 and 16.  I have, on occasion, accidentally hit into groups in front of me on those holes.

We had a two-some in good shape walk our course playing this winter for a trial, and it took 4.5hrs.  A four-some walking couldn't possibly play in less than 5hrs with an empty course in front of them, and you'd have to be in fantastic shape to walk the course and play.

Of course, a half hour of that playing time was for administration of CPR.  :)  I can vouch that Phil's course is beautiful and a good challenge.  Elevation change on almost every hole.  The carts only rule with the price figured into the greens fee is genius.  I once walked the course before that policy was in effect and it was a workout.
