Afternoon all. I've been making decent progress on my swing lately but have often struggled with lack of power and high shots. Having had my swing looked at i was shown the preset wrist drill and pointed towards the Nick Faldo clip on youtube.

I have been trying this for a while and i am hitting much better shots with a lower trajectory. My question is why? how come i can hit such better shots using this drill, what are the benefits the drill can teach a golfer?

When you search for this drill one of the similar videos is from a guy call Jason Birnbaum who has a video entitled "golf swing of the future" which as far as i can see is pretty much this drill but starting with the hands closer the rear foot than faldo and works just as well.

I found that after the drill i can start my swing with an early wrist hinge and get good results and i know there have been some decent players in history such as Jerry Barber and more recently Danny Willett who start with an early wrist hinge so at least i know im not doing something completely bonkers!

Anyone else use this drill or use an early wrist hinge?

I remember doing this in a lesson a long time ago. I think the idea was pre-setting my wrists was supposed to keep me from sucking the clubhead too far inside in the takeaway.

Even now I need to feel the clubhead traveling more up than in (pretty much straight up, actually), though I don't do the wrist hinge anymore because I need to have more of a Steve Stricker feel.

Do you have video, @RussUK? Maybe an early wrist hinge affects the way you load the shaft.

For me it was a bad move for my game. I worked on a MORAD type early arm fold, trying to keep the butt of the club on the right thigh to A2. It's was hard move to play with because of the sequencing/rates aspect, especially in competition, and it was harder to swing athletically. More of a "one-piece" move off the ball or even a bit of dragging the handle works best for me.

I think on paper an early set makes sense. Get it "loaded" early, then just turn but in reality in can be a tough thing to time on the course and potentially limit yourself dynamically.

    • Day 211 (29 Nov 24) - Friday men’s round albeit a solo foursome (temps in the 40’s, day after Thanksgiving and the average age closer to 75 - I’m a youngster at 65).  Interesting day of semi-solid play (8 of 18 GIR). Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff.
    • Day 60 - 2024-11-29 Got about 3.5' of snow today, so I was going to go to Golf Evolution, but… I only left the house to throw some snow. Instead, i checked out my putting stroke on HackMotion in the basement. Turns out… it's pretty good, and I'm very in touch with what I'm doing.

After 4 worlds I run out of worlds that have the letters I've already found that can be combined with the remaining letters.. just repeated the 4th world to knew the answer. I know the world but it never came to my mind.
