Anyone tired of 72 hole stroke play events?  The Gold Digest site has a great article speculating on some alternatives.

If you were king of the world which alternative format would you introduce?  Personally, I would love to see an event limiting players to four or five clubs.

I would, too, but the thing is… the PGA Tour players would have to want to do it, and the sponsors would have to want to do it, too.

Given that… I think the sponsors are perhaps not the biggest sticking point. The players likely consider anything like that too much of a "difference." They hate "luck" or anything that differentiates from what they're used to doing. That's why they are so eager to go to lift-clean-cheat when there's a threat of rain.

The only thing that gives me some hope is the addition of the two-man event, as an official PGA Tour event. That's cool, and got a lot of viewers (relative to what they would have expected), IIRC, last year.

Didn't they trial a 6 hole night golf event on the European tour last year?

I'd like to see more elimination tournaments. Three days of cuts. On the last day there would only be 25% of the original field left. Maybe 20 or so players.

I'd also like to see Monday, Tuesday qualifiers for the weekly tournaments. If the pro is not ranked in the top 50, they need to qualify to play in that week's tournament.

Those female/male combined tournaments also sounds like an improvement.

All of the above, and I still miss Shell's Wonderful World of Golf.  I still watch those matches on You Tube, and anywhere else I can find them.

Would like to see a return of the mixed team event, such as the old JCPenney Classic. Some of the pairings were interesting. Can't understand why the tournament failed to retain sponsors.

Haven't seen the Skins Game in a few years. Did that go away as well?

What's in the bag:
Driver: TaylorMade Rocketballz (non-adjustable), 10.5 degrees, stock graphite shaft R flex
Hybrids: Kasco, 17 and 25 degrees, stock graphite shafts
Irons: Golfsmith Tour Cavity Forged, 4-PW, graphite shafts R, 2 degrees upright
Wedges: TaylorMade Black Oxide, 52, 56, and 60 degrees, graphite shafts
Putter: Rife Barbados w/SuperStroke grip
Ball: Bridgestone RXS

    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
