I think you said this really well.

I agree that I think Reed lied.

I also think he didn't need to. He literally could have said almost nothing and ended up with a pretty similar result. I really feel if he just let the RO's do their job, they would have ruled for an unplayable lie.

Yeah, this is where I'm at as well.  IMO, this is only an issue for two reasons:

  1. It's Reed, and we all know his history.
  2. The "100% sure" language he used in the discussion.

If either one of those is eliminated from the equation, then this was never a story to begin with.  If Reed says "yeah, that does kinda look like my arrow, but I can't quite be 100% certain" or anything along those lines he gets a pass.

And, if literally anybody else hits that ball, then nobody blinks an eye.

Yes to all that.

Thing is, of course, without basically being 100% certain… he'd be going back to the tee.

Name, model, number can be sufficient to identify your ball if there are no other balls in the area. Not so much here where there were many balls.

We'll never know what he saw through the binoculars.

I'm still curious how two referees and "several" marshals identified THAT tree as the one Reed's ball went into, when I don't think there's any chance it did.

Haven't we covered this?

The Rules can't assume a player is lying without any other evidence. The player says "yeah, that's my ball, in the tree where you told me it went." And for all you know, he wasn't lying. He saw a same make/model/number ball with a line on it.

So, what did you want the Rules Official to do, @Vinsk?

They showed PR a replay of his ‘Sandgate’ penalty. Maybe say, ‘ Let’s take a look at the shot camera and see if we’re looking in the right place.’ They sure as hell didn’t take his word when he said he didn’t cheat in the bunker and went to video and said otherwise. Maybe? Maybe? 🥴

On a side note, hey Reed switch to Snell, you will know if the ball is really yours 😉

Srixon Divide. Volvik Vivid. Any of the Taylormade balls with interesting patterns on them. Even that Chromesoft soccer ball looking thing. 🤪

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Did you miss where I said “without any other evidence”?

Video is pretty good for that.

    • I  had to return to boast  just a  bit. Everyone  knows  i thought  this  is  how the Championship should  be decided. Match play is far  better than stroke  play to determine a  champion and  its  much closer to most sports  playoffs. Lose and you are  out.     Promotion, relegation and match play: PGA Tour unveils radical new structure The PGA Tour has revealed its planned changes to its competitive model, schedule and playoffs, changes that will be more substantial than any in the Tour's half-century-long history. How will the PGA Tour series wrap up its season? The current PGA Tour playoff format consists of three stroke-play events, concluding with the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Starting in 2028, the Tour's playoff system will feature match play, and will rotate through various courses. Further details will be revealed at this year's Tour Championship next month.
    • Posted a couple swings here. I think my attempt to blend the movement still results in a more “around” back swing?
    • I never heard dislike for them.  From my perspective, they are just like any other club. Though, they were always probably over-priced, until recently as other club manufacturers have been raising prices the past 5+ years. You had to wait for them to go on sale, which you can get them closer to other club manufacturers.  They sell good clubs. Nothing crazy..
    • Why do so many people dislike PXG clubs and constantly criticize them? All the folks at my club and especially online, I never hear good things about them except from people who bought them and defend them. They look fine to me but curious is there some sort of quality issue or is it just stereotyping the buyers.
    • I have the LM1 launch monitor and I’ve been very impressed. I agree with your assessment and it’s very accurate for me and ease of use is wonderful. The price point of $199 is very hard to beat with this form factor and performance. I was previously using a PRGR.
