don't know if there is a similar post. for me, i was actually within reach on a par 5 on my third shot. tried to punch a 6 iron from about 160. it hit the 150 pole dead on, and knocked it over. that or my dad almost hitting his forehead after tc chening a flop shot. he pulled an Aquaman.

Playing with my father barely a month ago - #13 or somesuch on Pioneer. Two of us are teeing off behind a slow foursome, with two old guys behind us. Hey lays into one good - it sounds great, and we're all looking down the fairway. Then the guy behind us starts laughing, out loud. He couldn't help it. The ball was still at my father's feet. It must've popped up a few feet in the air and then came to rest about three inches away.

"Shouldn't you be going faster? I mean, you're doing 40 in a 65..."

My friend and I had just finished playing 9-holes at a local municipal (Auduban), and we were having fun on the practice green when we see a guy and his (we guessed) girlfriend.

He is letting her drive the cart, and as she pulls him up to the first tee-box, he starts digging through his bag. We are only about 35' from him, so it's easy to hear him explaining to her that he didn't have his driver, so he was going to have to "power out" a 3-wood.

Now I'm not sure about you all, but anytime I hear someone say they are going to attempt to "power" anything... I have got to watch. It's like that car crash you just know is about to happen.

He places his tee/ball, takes a few practice swings... cleans his club-face, takes a few more... and finally he addresses. Great-looking backswing... great contact...

Then we see his club flying 50' in the air in-front of him. He was so embarassed he didn't even get in the cart, just walked to pick up the club.

I couldn't tell if the high-pitched shrieks of laughter were from me or his girlfriend.

Top my tee shot, which goes into a pond on the left. Skims across and comes out. Hits an overhanging branch that kicks it to the right and backwards, rolls across the fairway and dribbles into a *different* pond on the right.

Oh, I almost forgot (already posted once), but... last year I was playing a tough course and having a terrible day en route to a 97. On 15 or 16, a par 5 signature hole with a tight tee shot and lots of water, I hit the first OB. Second tee shot goes through the trees and strikes a squirel about 100yds away from the tee box, squirel fell out of tree, and we think it was probably dead, it fell about 80 feet. The tree was giant and we were in a hilliy area, eleveated tee, etc. So, not only did I have to re-tee and hit 5, but I probably killed some poor squirel that was just sitting in a tree joyfully playing with his nuts. It was not a fun day, and despite the course being great, I'm still torn as to whether I want to return.

We were playing the back tees and my tee shot hit the white tee marker and came screaming back at me. It missed my head by a couple feet and ended up in the woods. We were laughing so hard I could barely tee up my third. I proceeded to drive the green on my next shot (reachable downhill par 4) and lipped out my par putt.

Saw a guy on the tee with a driver swing and hit the ball with the heal of his driver and the ball fly between his legs and hit his buddy in the shin and he fell to the ground in pain.Well I fell to the ground laughing and allmost had to fight my way home.

Seriously the funniest thing I have ever read on a golf forum. Had me cracking up at work - thanks for the share.

my mate was standing on the 18th tee - 9 shots under his handicap (we were kids) - rifles his driver into the steps on the ladies teebox - 50 yards in front - they are massive railway sleepers. The ball flies over our heads and over a ditch 30 yards behind us. It's playable - near a path to the 13th. The 18th is index 2 so he has a couple of shots to spare though it's now all of 450 yards long - long for a kid.

He hits 3-wood, 3-wood, 2 putts for a 5 and a net 61 - par 72. Lost 3 shots or something!

Shortly after I took up golf, (as an adult) I was teeing off on a long par 5 and really want to smash one. Well, there was this bathroom (wooden shack meant to look like an old outhouse) near the tee box. I hit the ball off the toe so hard and it goes straight right through the moon cut-out on the door and loudly bangs around inside like a pin ball machine. I say. "jeez there was no one in there I hope" or some such thing. My playing partner deadpans "if there was they're dead now". (it was unoccupied, I checked)

Thats hilarious.

The weirdest shot i have played is: My brother was playing in the 4 man group in front of us. On a short par three, his group (to speed up precedings) let our group tee off as they stood to the side of the green. My brother decided to leave his stand bag about 1m off the fringe and the ball i hit actually landed in his club compartment of his bag.

I've hit the ball into the tree a few times without it coming out... always fun. Hit an OB tree/rock or similar a few times only to have it bounce perfectly into the fairway!

My favorite shot I ever hit was at course years ago at course shortly after I first started playing. The 18th hole was an uphill approach where you could not see the green except for the very top of the flag. I hit what I thought was a nice shot but once we walked up to the green, the ball was nowhere to be found. We looked all over and I figured I was going to have to drop and take a penalty until my buddy went to pull the pin and my ball was at the bottom! woo hoo!!! A great way to finish the day...

I was playing at a publc course one time and I got paired up with a guy who had way too much to drink. He was hacking all afternoon, badly, and after about a 40 yard driver went off into the right trees, we were waiting in our cart about 50 yards away for him to hit. He winds up and takes a full rip, quickly looks up and says, "where did it go?". To which his buddy sitting in the cart a few feet away says, "you didn't even hit the ball, you just covered it up with leaves!". Turns out, it was right there, I don't think I have ever laughed so hard in my life. A few holes later he about took off his own head when he ricocheted one after a thinned 3 iron hit a half-buried railroad timber and flew straight back at him, to which he quickly said, "where'd it go?".

I watched my mom top a ball so bad with a 9 iron that it actually went backwards about 4 feet.

I've seen that happen a couple times just watching the people infront of me tee off. Quite funny.

Mine happened playing a late afternoon round as a single. I got paired up with a member. On the 9th hole it started raining pretty hard. I told him i was going to keep going and he said he would aswell. Heading to the 11th tee it started to down poor like crazy. My glove was soaked and my grip was impossible to keep dry. I layed into my drive and my driver slipped out of my hands full force. I threw it about 30 ft straight up and to the left.. it actually got caught in the branches of one of the trees for second and proceeded to fall hitting branches on the way down. My ball went about 20 yards dead left O.B..

This guy was 190yds out on a par 5 after his drive. But, it was all carry over the water. He took a big swing with his hybrid, but it came out low and I immediately called for it to skip. Skip it did, bounced up on to the fairway right of the green, gently turned left and ended up 20ft for eagle.

One other one. I skulled a full swing 60 degree into a metal maintenance shed. Went right in the partially open doors and hit the other side solid and ricocheted around. I pretty much wanted to die.

I have 3

I was on a long 450 par 4 and I hit a 6 iron, sailing nice, just about to land on the left side of the green. I hit a sprinkler head dead on and it skidded so fast way past the right side of the green.

I was on the first hole 515 yards when i hit a bad drive and ended up hitting a 5 wood. I sliced it soo bad, I knew it was lost. I see a ball just on the fringe and its mine. Apparently, my ball hit a deck and bounced back almost onto the green.

And lastly I had a tree infront of me in the woods and i tried to punch it out, but it hit the tree and came flying back at me, i had such fast reflexes and ducked. It was reallly funny.

got 3 that i can recall all by me

number 1

as juniors the pro came rushing down to me and my mates, he then gave as a lecture on safety and insisted we all stand in the safe position at the golfers back and to the right a little. i then proceeded to hit one off the toe at right angles into a metal beam the ball came back at around 100mph missing the pro by inches (he had to duck!) was VERY funny.

number 2

1st hole in a medal as a junior - around 100 people watching - driver head flew off at impact and went 100 yards!!!! ball trickled 50 and just rolled out of bounds! i was mortified

number 3

last hole in a medal - guy i was playing with had just got a callaway 1 iron with graphite shaft - i had already posted a no return - after he had hit on 18 he asked me to hit his club to see how far i could hit - it broke into 3 evenly matching bits at impact!!

he never came in for a drink!

I had only been playing the game for about 8 months. It was still late winter in Northern Indiana but the snow was (mostly) gone. The first 9 was pretty uneventful. A couple of Dad's friends meet up with us on the 10th tee, which made me kind of nervous. Dad tees it up and takes a big crack at it. He's looking down the fairway and says he didn't catch sight of it. I tell him it looks like he is still away as he had topped it so badly it actually popped 3 feet behind him on the tee box. After laughing our asses off over that one, my nerves were just fine.

    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
