Not to be *that* guy, but I can't see Tiger ever doing something like that.

Agreed....has anyone else done that during a major?

Phil could've gotten disqualified had they decided that he stopped the ball on purpose. Instead he got a penalty for hitting the ball while still moving.

Where on earth do you get your information about golf? He didn't "stop the ball". There is a clear penalty for what he did. Why would he have been disqaulified? You are constantly saying stuff that makes me think you're watching a different sport.

Based on that interview, that feels like it should be a DQ. I know what the rules are and I get taking what you can, but that, to my mind, feels like cheating. Certainly can't be the explanation that the USGA were hoping for.

Otherwise, DJ bringing everyone else back.

They just said this on the telecast. Are you watching it? You seem lost...as usual

Zach Johnson claiming they've 'lost the course'. I disagree from what we're looking at - miles away from the farce at Chambers Bay.

He knew exactly was he was doing by the interview with Curtis. I too think he should have gotten DQ.

I don't know why he is so surprised. It was just as bad or worse the last time it was held there. If the players start to speak up minus just a few maybe they won't have it there again.

Please explain your reasoning for this.

He didn't "stop the ball". He putted it while it was moving.

For me, the difference between a rules breach and cheating is intent - that rule is designed for when the ball moves as you're making a stroke, or similar unintentional breaches (I believe). The moment that he said he intentionally hit the ball to stop it going down off the front and that he knew he'd probably make a better score, that is cheating. There are rules the USGA can use to DQ him if they want.

The final results here may be right in-line with Chambers Bay.  The biggest issue there was less than stellar viewing for the fans.

Maybe, but it won't be to do with greens that were bobbling ridiculously from 6 feet putts. They aren't perfect, but they aren't close to Chambers level unplayable.

I genuinely had no problem with any other aspect of Chambers and quite liked the course.

You're doing it again! The whole point leading up is that last time it was a disaster and the USGA learnt its lesson (supposedly), particularly on the 7th. The players do speak up - they always do. And I don't think the players want a great course banished from the rotation.

I'd be curious if the better players here (however defined) would play the course, particularly their approach shots, if their goal was total scoring.

Wow, Ian, that sand shot at #8 was the second-worse sand shot I've seen you hit this tournament.

Did Ian Poulter's clothing line vanish?  I don't even see the IJP logo on his clothing and he's dressed a bit more bland.  Or is he just dressed conservatively for the U.S. Open?

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
