I heard a rumor that Tiger is planning a makeover with his some of his clubs..Well i found out he was testing the sumo squared--but he decided against it citing that it was not workable. Given the newest trends in the golf world---Is Tiger planning on shocking us this year by putting a hybrid in his bag. Its been said he has been testing with the hybrid. I want to say that if tiger would put a hybrid in his bag--How much would it elevate his game even more.

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

its a hard call.

i can't really see him do it anytime too soon. no doubt he is testing everything to improve his game. i have noticed that he is going for his 5 wood instead of his 2-iron more often now. but when the guy can hit his 2/3-irons that high and soft, why change?

The one article I read about Woods and a hybrid stated that he won't use one because he does not have trouble getting the ball in the air. Additionally, his experience was that he actually was hitting the ball too high and could not get it down.

With the way he is able to hit his long irons and keep them so low I don't believe Tiger will switch to a hybrid.

I have a 3H that I am able to use if I want to...

But I am still striking the ball more consistently with my 2i-4i than the hybrid...

I honestly think that the same "I can't hit this" gene that is in instilled in most golfers for the long irons (1-3) has been mutated into a "don't even think about that hybrid" gene for me.

My 4i is still my most reliable club in my bag, and I wouldn't trade my 2i or 3i for the greatest hybrids in the world...

If Tiger has been donated the same genes as me, you might see him possibly changing his irons/shafts, but I don't think that he will be switching out irons for hybrids anytime soon...

I wonder why tiger doesnt switch his 5 wood out for a hybrid of the same loft. Do you think nike will ever come out with new forged blades for tiger to play

I would think he would consider it to help get out of the rough. A hybrid is great out of the long stuff while a two iron is next to impossible.

Only reason I disagree with this is because the rough that the pros play in is not the same stuff you play in...even with a hybrid it might not be possible to get it out of there...I would have to say no to getting a hybrid for getting out of high rough.

I believe it would only make his game better because of his history of driver accuracy. Although he has improved his driver dramatically recently so I don't believe he needs a hybrid. Tiger's mind is very imaginative everyone comments on his distance with his driver but when you have the imagination and pure brilliance in your short game I think it would be a shame to see Tiger resort to a hybrid.

I don't think that he will switch especially for the US Open where I think we will see many of those famous 2 iron stingers.

Didn't he say something like this a while ago? Way from memory, and I could be way off, but didn't he say the 5-Wood became an option on his 30th birthday and the 7-Wood will be on his 40th?

Last year I read that Tiger said he had experimented with hybrids but they ballooned on him and he didn't like that. I don't expect him switching to a hybrid anytime soon. He joked that maybe when he turns 40 he'll have to go to a hybrid.

Thats exactly what i heard. Tiger is too good with the long irons to need a hybrid. Because he works the ball soo much, a hybrid would not play to his strengths and what he is trying to do.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
