I need some help finding a drill to get my lower body to start the downswing.

When I get to the top of the swing, I can’t get my knees or hips to move toward and rotate it doesn’t feel like there is room or any flexibility to turn.

i read a few articles that I need to set the back swing correctly to allow my lower Body to initiate.

I tried pushing down with right foot, I tried forcing a knee or hip bump and left but none feels natural.

I do like the skipping stone throw but it feels like it’s a drop of right shoulder and a shoulder swing not a lower body turn and pull.

i want to improve lag and swing speed. I am a short hitter, my 7 iron goes 135 to 140 max. I read that most speed and power comes from ground up which is why I want to work on lower body. I’ll be happy with 160 max for my 7iron.

Best advice I can give is to post some new videos on your swing thread.  Its quite possible that what you want to do isn't exactly what you need to do right now.

Put a basketball/medium bucket between your legs at knee height. Your first move should be to move your lead knee toward the target but don’t let your trail knee follow it! The ball/bucket will drop.

Why do you think that this is your issue? Why 160? Are you hitting it square, straight and solidly every time?

Best advice is to get something specific to your body and your swing. 160 might be appropriate or might be out of your body's capability.

Posting a video is a good start or get a lesson.

    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
    • Once, on a course in Middleton, Massachusetts that I used to love but has since closed down,  I hit the wrong half of a huge, UK style double green.  Then I made the hundred foot putt.  Tough to  forget that one.
    • No. But if I can still play next year, I'll almost certainly be even worse. That's the reality of not being young.🙁
    • I use GPS;  it may not be as accurate, but neither am I.
