  1. Jordan tried that shot last Sunday, but put a little more choke on it than he intended.
  2. I just think it's funny that all of his clubs are stamped BAD, but those are his initials. When you look at the folks who've won the NCAA and US Am titles in the same year (Nicklaus, Mickelson, Tiger, and Ryan Moore) he's in good company (both in terms of future greatness and, in Moore's case, goofy swings). So clearly what he's doing works, and at an elite level. Furyk's loopy corkscrew swing works for him, and Trevino's low pull-slice worked for him, but you wouldn't teach anyone to swing that way. I think likewise on the irons. It's not a question of whether "this works" or "this doesn't work," but rather "this works for BAD."
  3. @DaveP043 and @jsgolfer thanks for putting this together. The weather was terribly unlucky, and I'm sorry me and a few others were too scared to risk damage to our fragile balls. Hats off to you boys, and I look forward to the next one.
  4. I think I'd go with cuisine from right down the street, what made Georgia a foodie destination. First course: she crab soup, fresh greens with creamy vidalia dressing. Second course: shrimp-n-grits. Third course: crispy scored flounder, sweet potato puree, southern style green beans, buttermilk biscuit. Dessert: who cares. No one will be able to eat another bite at this point.
  5. Hey guys, it sucks to say this but I'm going to bow out. Our spring schedule is jammed with mid-FY reviews, so the reality is I'm only going to get one or two golf days between now and mid-May. With everything weighing on this one (weather, daughter's ballet, finger still not fully healed), I'm not sure the juice is worth it for this one. Sorry.
  6. Thanks--at least I feel like less of an idiot because I couldn't find any good info. You'd think that at least with a paid All Access subscription you'd get whatever they're broadcasting live (since that's their major selling point). I'll have WatchESPN access for Thurs/Fri. Weekend is a crap shoot. I may be spending the night at @DaveP043's house!
  7. Does anyone know if CBS all access subscribers will be able to stream the weekend round coverage? I see on the website they're showing featured groups and Amen corner on the cbssports site, but it doesn't say anything about the weekend CBS broadcast.
  8. Prob the same model irons, but I'm pretty sure his driver and 3-w were Titleist. 975j, IIRC.
  9. I'd say @Ernest Jones didn't challenge anyone's views. He challenged some who posted polarized conclusions without any reasons or explanation. I'd further offer that the policies of the USA affect every country, particularly other North American countries. Other than that, you basically labeled anyone who wants to discuss politics as senseless. Nice contribution. Trying to learn about and discuss important issues to our country is part of our duty as citizens.
  10. My HCP is a wild guess. When I'm playing a lot, 2 is a safe number. I haven't played a real round of golf since August, though. 5 is probably over-confident, but I'd feel like a sandbagger if I asked for much more.
  11. At least the snow dropped out of the forecast for Friday night! Afternoon tee times and it'll be sunny, so we should be pretty good. As long as the wind holds off.

I'm not familiar with the rampant illegal search and seizure.

They also win when people die on the streets of the USA. @newtogolf mentioned in the POTUS election thread that terrorism is a problem. But IS is losing in Syria. The only place they're gaining victories is in democratic countries. What's the acceptable cost of fighting terrorism?
  14. Ironically, his legacy will be greatly bolstered by this fact, although all he did to "win" it was get elected. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Nobel_Peace_Prize
  15. What accounting firm is going to follow the groups to keep score?
  16. Our level of "permanent engagement" is back down to historical cold war levels, more or less. During the 2007-2008 surge we had about 250k Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, and Airmen deployed inside combat zones. Today that number is under 50k. We are doing a lot more limited scale contingency missions, which is exactly what we've done all over the globe since Korea. It might look like we're more engaged for a couple of reasons. One, our military is smaller. Two, we've reduced permanent stationing in Europe and Korea and are now "deploying" brigades to those locations on a rotational basis (but of course, they're not actually fighting). Obama over-relies on special forces. Other than that, I think his employment of the military has been about as good as it could be. The Iraq withdrawal plan was negotiated during the Bush administration while Petraeus was commander. Obama's team spent all of 2009 leaning on the withdrawal timeline trying to get the Iraqi Government to take responsibility for building their country. They spent all of 2010-2011 trying to negotiate a continued US presence. Ultimately the Iraqi Government refused to grant immunity to US troops, so we had to pull out. The withdrawal "timeline" we ultimately followed was inherited by Obama. It's that simple. As for Afghanistan...when Obama took the oath we had about 40k troops in Afghanistan. Two years later we had over 100k and Petraeus was in command. What a pu$$y. North Korea is a crackpot. It's doing what it has always done. Israel is a baffling issue from a security perspective. Our alliance with Israel makes us a target, and they break promises constantly. Yet we have continued to provide unconditional military support for Israel from Ike to W. Why? No ally in history has ever unconditionally supported our military policies. UK comes close, but even there it's not unconditional. Russia flexed. Then the price of oil dropped to $35/bbl and all of the lead went out of their pencil. What's Russia doing right now in Syria? Oh yeah, complete withdrawal. And let's talk about IS. The IS is failing. Their Soldiers are defecting. They're hemorrhaging territory. The dreams of a caliphate state are crumbling. Terrorism is still a problem, and domestic terrorism is now a problem more than ever. Unfortunately, so long as we have civil liberties and secure iPhones there's simply nothing any President can do to completely stamp out the Boston Marathon bombers and the Farooks. I agree with this. My biggest complaint with Obama is he was supposed to be the great unifier, but we're farther apart than ever. I don't think it's his fault personally. However, more Obama (or Clinton, or Cruz) isn't going to fix this problem. Who has he bowed to? He hiccuped on the Syrian chemical weapons "red line." He bluffed, and he was called. Russia/Ukraine I think was a more calculated approach, but how did that turn out? We didn't deploy any troops. Guess what? Russia's economy is collapsing. They're retreating in Syria. They haven't encroached any further than Sevastopol (which was Russian territory for centuries until they annexed it with the Ukraine during the Soviet period because it just made administrative sense to do so). What do I think? ACA is not a good fix. Healthcare reform was/is necessary, and universal healthcare is a noble goal for the world's most powerful and wealthiest country. But trying to allow the market to regulate a mandatory-consumption product is absurd. Kudos for getting anything at all passed, but he should've had the balls to just ram the real reforms through in 2009-2010. Foreign Policy has actually been quite good. No new wars (at least none with US Soldiers on the ground). ISIS was created in Anbar Provence, Iraq in 2006. That's not Obama's fault. The drone program has been pretty successful if you like surgically eliminating terrorists at minimal economic and political cost. We didn't let our balls override our brains with Russia or Syria, and both of those situations are turning in our favor. Domestic threats are up. That's an ideology thing. It would be hard to say Obama's strategy has been, on the whole, hardening extremist Islamic ideology against us (any more than it would have been). My guess is if we had two Divisions in Iraq/Syria right now we'd be getting a lot more San Bernadinos. You can't pin any tax, spending, or budget issues directly on Obama. I also think he made a good faith effort to negotiate with Republicans to resolve the tax/budget differences. Anyone remember his grand bargain with Boehner that the Tea-partiers tubed? I don't think you can say Obama didn't try to at least do something.
  17. Count me in the no crowd for food in a box, and a "hell no" for putting ketchup on M&C. Hot sauce, however.... Those of you that like hot sauce in their Mac, try making it next time substituting some Frank's (or your sauce of choice) for a portion of the milk you'd otherwise use. I like Frank's wing sauce. A half cup or so makes a huge difference!
  18. What's the format going to be? In the SoCal outings we used to do modified stableford based on HCP. Each group is a team, and you count two or three scores for each hole. Or we could just play, and those that want can kick in five bucks for skins.

    Apple v. FBI

I'm not sure how this sentence relates to the rest of your post, but it is patently false. If (and that's a tough if) you could somehow kill ALL of them, then maybe. But "kill a lot" ---> "they give up" has been disproved time and again since we began studying insurgencies.
  20. There are probably forty something threads on this topic already. Here's the main one.

    Apple v. FBI

Looks like the FBI did it. http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/03/28/472192080/the-fbi-has-successfully-unlocked-the-iphone-without-apples-help
  22. I guess I have to agree with you. Watching the semi-final matches finish up, I saw that Oosthuizen closed out his match easily while Day nearly went extra holes. I thought, "Oostie is coming into this match pretty strong--Day is in trouble." Clearly I was wrong. Day had trouble closing his match not because of his play, but because of who he was playing: Rory McIlroy. Duh. Day crushed Oosthuizen in that final match. (I should note that I only watched the final 3 holes of the semi-final matches.)
  23. I'm still in for Saturday, and I'd support 1100 if that's what the group wants. It is Masters weekend, after all.
