What's wrong with my swing?
atltony replied to gsu_paintballer's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
gsu = georgia state? i go there. :\ anyway...as for being hunched over...just bend a little less in the knees and straighten up a little with less bend from the waist...pretty straight-forward. just try to feel like you're standing taller over the ball. -
.........wow

done and done.

but its not like the milled face really does that much?...its all about the the fact that the grooves and cut with a circular saw instead of stamped in or whatever right?

Does the joint hurt when you go to make a fist? If so you might want to look into "trigger finger" which is basically the tendon swelling up so as when it passes through the tendon sheath you get pain and usually a locking feeling (when closing the fist) and a a sort of popping (when opening the fist) in the joint. People who tend to grip the club rather tightly are more prone to this sort of injury.

How did you even begin to work out his handicap on the UK Congu system without the course ratings and slopes for the courses in which these rounds were played on? -and Congradulations dude, that is pretty much everyone's goal/dream.

Kim is looking really good this particular Sunday...sinking long birdie putts back to back, then hitting the pin after driving into the bunker and having to lay-up...just looks super focused.

Cleveland Hi-Bore vs Halo Utility
atltony replied to losingmyedge's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I haven't hit the Hi-Bore hybrids (I own a Hi-Bore driver), but I own 22degree and 16 degree Halo hybrids and absolutely love them. The Halo series seems to have less offset than the majority of the newer hybrids which have started to lean more towards draw-biased, including the newest Cleveland hybrids. I also believe the rolled leading edge of the club really helps in certain lies, along with the simple contoured sole (which if I recall correctly is what Jesse Ortiz always talks up in his Bobby Jones hybrid commercials, other than the lightweight maraging steel or whatever.) Either way, the Halo hybrids have worked well for me. This is the 16degree 1i hybrid, I went with a stiff graphite shaft for this club as I was looking for it to be more of a fairway wood replacement. Both clubs have a good look at address. (to me.) The 22degree has a steel shaft, again because I was more looking to replace 3 iron. I feel as if I can use my same long iron swing with this club, seeing as the steel shafts are a little shorter than the graphites. Whereas with the 16 I swing a little more like a fairway wood (slightly flatter plane, etc.) And a pic of the faces to give you a feel for the height and width. Overall the clubs have really filled into my bag nicely, hitting the 22 around 210yds and the 16 goes 230 off the deck, slightly further when teeing off. Hope this helps you a little. -
WOW. that playoff was a rollercoaster. Whoever didn't see Adam hole that 48ft putt to birdie the 3rd playoff hole I feel sorry for you.

The above post's information can become a little problematic. I've figured its best to check the loft of the hybrids you're interested in...and see which one hits consistently the distance you are looking to fill. A quick example about why just thinking a 4 hybrid replaces a 4 iron is that taylormade's 4 hybrid is 22degrees while my cleveland halo 3 hybrid is also 22degrees. Simply put, check the lofts, find one that corresponds closely to the club's loft you are trying to replace, perhaps a slightly weaker loft seeing as a hybrid should go a tad bit further than an iron of the same loft.

Does going to the range really help?
atltony replied to Chilidipper's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'm with Shotcalla on this one. For beginners or those that do not have a consistent repeatable swing mats are going to hid how well of contact you are making. However...if you have a repeatable swing I don't think mats are really going to hurt you, seeing as you should be making solid contact most of the time anyway. However, I always prefer grass practice tees...the closer to perfect practice the better. -
...just wouldn't feel right paying 300 for something that is actually so simple. Two bendable rails with magnets, and some numbers, I feel like I could rig something up like this with two metal clothes hangers and somehow attach a magnet to each...total cost being like $20 at best. I mean, to each his own...but $300 is definitely the wrong price range for this product.

I'm very interested in this Scorecard cheat sheet, infact I just printed it out. I do not yet have scorecard...I'm currently using Digital Divot. Could you tell me what statistic is generated with the 'distances of your first putt' (second line)?

When I'm warmed up...its straight down the middle 3/4 times. If I get to the course, pay and run to the first tee without properly warming up/stretching...its gonna be a hook, or draw if I'm lucky. If the particular course asks me to use driver on the majority of the par 4s I can sometimes tire out a bit and things will start leaking right at the end of the round. edit- about the coming naturally or not question: My driver was absolutely the club I had to put the most work into in order to see satisfactory results...about a year ago I was one of the dudes who would set up aiming waaay left of the fairway...swing as hard as possible...and if I was lucky land the ball about 220 or so out in the fairway (most often closer to 200 and right of the fairway :

One Company's Clubs II - One weekend scenario
atltony replied to hypergolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I would have to go with Titleist, as I am already using 735.cms for irons and vokeys for wedges. I could sacrifice a little forgiveness going from my clevelands to titleist woods, and could make the switch from my yes! tiffany to a scotty (but wouldn't want to.) And to those saying they would worry about their game more, that's fine...but you're still gonna have to walk up to that club house and grab a bag, regardless. -
Been playing with a mutual friend lately who played college golf at about a +2. I feel like it has been helping me out a lot, being able to see how he manages the courses I play at and such. It also makes the round a little more exciting when you know someone in you're group is going to play all the par 5s as longer par 4s, albeit a little disappointing when I eventually sucker myself into trying to hit one and come up about 30yds short :\.

21...22 in a week and a few. Was a once every other month golfer from age 12-18...took a 3 year break...and have now been playing weekly for about a year.

is marihuana a performance enhancer for your golf?
atltony replied to ganjagolfer's topic in Golf Talk
Personally I don't think a little nuggage luggage is going to enhance anyone's game. I used to smoke with some regularity on the course but as ive gotten better ive realized that although it does allow me to relax (which i tend to have a problem doing), it atleast makes up for the relaxation with the lack of concentration. So I haven't been smoking on the course with any regularity lately. Seems like a lot of people here are good people that would go extremely out of their way to avoid stereotyping people on account of their race, but then immediately stereotype due to a person's choices that in no way affect you? In today's world, who would be crazy enough to agree that legality and the law have any correlation to morality? If you do...wow, enjoy living your life as a sheep. The politicians get done talking to the tobacco and alcohol companys, go pass bills that help keep marijuana illegal, then go to their quaint little bar in the outskirts of DC...get shit-faced, drive home drunk...and wake up to do it all over again. Sorry about the rant, but some of the posts in this thread are crazy. ON THE TOPIC- Marijuana should be screened for, just like any other sport. Im sure it didn't enhance Michael Vick's game either, but as long as it is illegal(which again...to me doesn't mean anything.) sports organizations are going to want to keep their players in a good public light. Breaking any law, regardless of the actual morality of the situation, negatively reflects on the players and PGA. So even though I doubt marijuana should be considered a performance enhancing drug...the technicality remains that most people are sheep in society and view breaking the law as bad regardless of the actual offense. -
I swear buying new irons will drive a guy mad...
atltony replied to JeffJ's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
lol, man. I usually feel bad for being so impulsive but thats about how i am with irons, oddly enough the 7 iron being my main "judgment club" as well. I know what general range of forgiveness/workability level I am looking for in the set of irons...so I just worry about which ones I feel most confident looking down on and fits my eye. Of course I will hit them before I purchase...but there have only been a couple sets that made it to the simulator/range and were then rejected. Thats how the 735.cms made it in my bag, and I haven't had a regret. -
I've experienced the same sort of "magical" improvement in the past, however I mainly contribute this to getting so fed up with prior results to the point where I just try things that feel completely new in my swing. Some for the better, most for the worst. However I will completely agree with what I have read on this forum quite often, being that as you lower your hdcp these instances of magical improvements will quickly fade. (I know mine have.) You will then have to be determined and focused enough to practice efficiently, conetrating on specific faults or things you want to improve.

High launch Low Spin Driver?
atltony replied to ronaldkuntoro's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thats exactly what i was trying to say... guess i didnt get the point across :\ -
...no? is tape sticky? is grease slippery? youre looking to cause less friction between ball and club face. perhaps ONE sided tape would work a little bit.

High launch Low Spin Driver?
atltony replied to ronaldkuntoro's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
perhaps a helpful story: I purchased the hibore 10.5 driver with fuji reg flex shaft two days ago, and being in sort of a rush didnt hit it at the store or anything and just figured id go with my old driver specs and be fine. later that day i made it out to the driving range and proceeded to hit a bucket with my new purchase. the launch angle seemed rediculously high to me and was only carrying around 200 which is around or only slightly farther than my EXTREMELY outdated driver(got it when i was 14, now 21, i know.) So i pouted about it and waited until the next day to make it back to the store. I went back to Golfsmith, and proceeded to hit and get fitted for a new hibore. The results shows that my swing would be best fitted with a 9.5 ust stiff flex, quite different than what i thought was correct. made it out the the range, carrying 220-230 and still a nice high ball flight. the point of this story is that the hibore and most of these 'high launch low spin' drivers on the market almost demand you to get fitted because of their significant ability to get balls up in the air. what you believe to be correct for you might be way off, but as a general rule of thumb id say stay away of a higher angle paired with a soft shaft with a low kickpoint unless you just cannot get your driver in the air, because all these things working together to get the ball up along with the drivers head weighting seem to get the ball a little too high for most. -
3 hybrid- tee shots, long shots especially out of the rough, chipping etc. 3 iron- for those shots i need to keep tight, and its a club im comfortable taking a little bit off of to cover lower yardages 7 iron- my comfort club, just a club im totally intune with from full swing to 1/4 swings or what have you sw putter
