  1. Why are you entering scores for handicapping for a match play round? I didnt think this could be done exactly because of the things you mentioned? Basically when you win or lose a hole its done and dusted and over and pointless either continuing to putt out? Having said that, my beef is people who only enter team competitions and avoid individual comps to keep their handicaps higher than they should be. It really gets on my nerves when you come across these kinds of golfers. At least with the new WHS changes, where handicaps can now be altered for team comps this is a step in a good direction to catch these "cheaters".
  2. I think a fitting will help you quite a lot, especially if you have clubs that are totally ill suited to you as a golfer (they could be blades or players irons for better players etc). Get fitted AND get lessons. Best of both worlds 🙂
  3. The problem with slow play is that it is pretty subjective. Ive had rounds of three and a half hours that have felt like marathons and five hour rounds that have felt like sprints. However, having said that some of the things that dont help are; 1. Players leaving their bags 10+ feet behind them, walking to their ball, taking their shot and then walking back to their bag...through the entire round. 2. Players waiting for a green to clear from 250+ yards when they know full well that even in their prime they are NEVER going to hit the green from back there. 3. Players leaving reading a green UNTIL they get up on the green. 4. This one is a pet peeve of mine in winter, players insisting on removing the pin! Just leave the fecking thing in and putt your ball. 5. Players insisting on putting their putters head cover on at the side of the green before picking their bag up and moving on. 6. Players insisting on waiting for the correct order to play before taking their shot. I get this in match play but not in 4bbb comps. Just hit the fecking ball if you are ready and able to instead of standing around and waiting like a gormless twit 🙂 Most of the above just comes down to poor course management and tot How to fix it is another can o worms altogether 😄
  4. Im sort of half and half on Lexi being in the comp. I liked the fact she was there and gave it a bloody good go BUUUUUUUT she also kept another male pro out of the competition who otherwise would have been there if not for her. Probably a touchy subject but the ladies have their tour and the men have there's and that is probably how it should be. Other than that I would LOVE to see the LPGA and PGA have mixed comps through the year!
  5. At my club we have a few holes that regularly close in the winter due to becoming sodden quite quickly over any period of sustained rainfall. The club had sunk a lot of money in to drainage over the last couple years which has actually helped but it still doesn’t keep the holes open all year long. Which has had me wondering For a while ow around if we could have some artificial temporary greens how that would work out for the club in general. Another point is our green keepers were stopped from using a particular spray a couple years ago to deal with nematodes, which they haven’t found anything that comes remotely close to the effectiveness of the old stuff. so maybe artificial greens have their place on certain courses eh? We probably wouldn’t get the same heat issues here that you do in Florida as well?!?
  6. Well that makes sense but would also make for some golf and potentially exciting food collection given you’d never know if you’re coming back with a few pints and or a golf ball to the head? 😂😁⛳️🏌️‍♂️
  7. Not a fan and think they should be avoided at all costs. The member driving range sounds more like an excuse to just close of an area otherwise playable, given members wont be on there during the day using the range.
  8. Chunked drive of about 140 yards on a tight dog leg left hole leaving me 210 to the pin over water. Lined it up, absolutely pured possibly the best shot of my life with the ball coming to rest about 6 inches from the hole (tapped in for a birdie😁). I turned to begin signing autographs for the other three in my group only to discover the f99kers were all off in the trees looking for a lost golf ball! 🤣 So no one saw it, no one believed I had got up there with my second shot, no one wanted my autograph! 🤣
  9. I loved the GG when it worked! But how it just stopped working, and then absolutely no response from the support team killed this device deader than a dead thing for me...given this thing wasnt cheap to purchase first time round! Because of that they will not get another cent from me ever again.
  10. AGM - Annual General Meeting, when a very small number of members, who can be bothered, show up to listen to management tell them all the wonderful things that have happened over the year and why this years membership fees are going up by another xx % 😉 As for dress sense, these change and have changed over time. No one plays in a a three piece suit anymore (thank god!) or plus-fours and I can guarantee you, back then playing in shorts would have killed off half the membership at one of those respectable golf clubs 😁 The issue I have is with people who feel me wearing shorts will adversely impact their game to the point they can no longer hit the ball like a golfer 🤪
  11. I dont think golf is particularly accessible and that is a feature of golf. The costs are high to begin with (and thats just in maintaining courses without having to go in to anything else). On top of this is the cost of playing the game itself because you need a few things if you want to be good at a consistent level, first one being the privilege of time and the second being money available to take advantage of the privilege of time. Without either youre not really going to be doing much golf wise. You need time because rounds can be 4-6 hours, then there is getting there an hour before the round to warm up, plus post golf socialising then there is the time and effort needed for practicing and lessons and all that without getting in to the never ending cycle of gearing yourself up with clubs and golf shirts and club membership and green fees and....its never ending!
  12. The last club AGM I went to had two items of interest to me, one being clothing on the course and the other being whether to allow dogs on the course or not. Great I thought. How uncontroversial. How wrong was I! People were crying and ranting and raving and everything over these two agenda items because apparently allowing people to not have to dress as a tour pro and allowing people to play the course with their mutt in tow would mean the end of times as we know it!! 😄 I mean, four putts, losing $10 golf balls, losing really really expensive tees, chunking chips 2 yards...yeah not a problem but the second one talks about lowering dress standards its like the end of the world as if this one thing will definitely impact your playing handicap by making it instantly 20 shots worse! 🤪

  14. My first big golf purchase, and one that remains my biggest golf purchase every year, was my membership to my golf club 🙂
  15. My game golf unit has died and I cannot get a response from the Game Golf people about getting it fixed?!? I have an apple mac and when I plug it in its just not being recognised so not sure if its something thats changed in an update and what can be done to get it back to life? Thoughts people?
  16. This is the psychology of winners though. They aim big and when you aim big you are more likely to achieve SOMETHING compared to aiming low and achieving nothing :)
  17. Hahaha...this is the most someone has said with the least number of words!! 👍
  18. Sometimes people need to help themselves with the simple things..like being ready to play when they get to their ball 🙂 Other things like making sure your trundler or bag is where it should be (ie. on the correct side of the green), just not faffing about on the greens (just hit the god damn ball already) but also sometimes golf could help itself at times too. It maddens me in the winters when we could help speed things up ourselves by enforcing local rules for leaving the flag in the hole. Then you don't get people walking unnecessarily on the greens and people can go straight to their ball and play it out without faffing about arguing about who whether to attend the flag or waiting for someone to pull it out so you can put. I keep reminding myself that golf is a marathon, not a sprint BUT doesn't mean we don't do as much as possible to make it an enjoyable marathon 🙂
  19. This is one of those can't win arguments There have been threads on this forum where people were taking the p1ss out of someone exactly because they dressed like a "professional" golfer YET here we have people now taking the p1ss out of anyone who dares to not dress tidily on a course Personally, I don't mind throwing on longs and a tidy shirt when playing in a competition. Conversely if I want to shoot out and play a few holes after work then I just wear what ever shorts Ive got on and a tee shirt and just go for it. doesn't hurt anyone AND we have enough issues with people not repairing divots even though we have a dress code in force at my club! Also, why do people have it in for jeans? I reckon these are fine as they are just as tidy as dress trousers these days. So, where am I going with this? Well, IF I owned the course I am a member at Id do away with the dress code requirements. If people want to dress like professional golfers or a homeless man then so be it. As long as they actually respect the course, play the game in the spirit, have a good time and most importantly of all SPEND money over the bar then Im fine with that. Regards Mailman
  20. The one that annoys me the most is the PGA Pro who plays off 18 and comments on everything along the lines of "why didn't you play an 8 iron and lay up". That one gets me particularly! In the end I gave my LSW book to him to shut him the f88k up about laying up! Didn't work though!! :) Now look what you have done @bones75! You've got me all excited and ruined my day now cause I can't stop thinking about how much THAT GUY works me up on the course!!! Regards Mailman
  21. We have some very fast greens and also some very slow greens. But it really doesn't matter as I am skilled enough to make all our greens look impossible :) Regards Mailman
  22. South Korea is a completely different culture though. Its not as selfish as Western culture and much more community/family centric AND given South Korea has a very real threat just north then it is drummed in to them from the get go that they MUST to their bit for their country. The guy should have got his military service out of the way years ago while he was a younger. Now he has to deal with the consequences of his decision to fight and delay as long as possible. Mailman
  23. When I watched some of Dans earlier videos for the first time the thing that stood out like dogs bollocks was the lack of athleticism (and natural talent). Even back then it was clear that he was going to be fighting an uphill battle. Then there was the offers of help that he failed to take up (but I guess thats understandable given he had a clear vision in his mind how he wanted to approach this). But yeah, its evident this was only going to end one way. You just can't do this kind of thing without some underlying natural ability and talent. I mean, have a look at something like X Factor when they play the back story of contestants. More times than not the ones that excel are the ones with backstories where they excel at pretty much everything they do. Its almost as if people who are naturally talented have an inner voice that tells them to not waste time on things where they have little hope of success while those who are, for the want of better words, tragic don't have that little voice in their heads! :)
  24. I don't see what the problem is? I know plenty of high hcpers that can hit it 300 yards but if course the real issue isn't distance but whether they can find the ball or how much they've missed the fairway by ??
  25. Just play 90% of the handicap for the 4bbb matches and full handicap for the singles. No need to make it more complicated than it needs to be. I think sometimes us golfers like to over think some thing's far too much eh? ??
