Benefit of the doubt until he uses the phrase "of the golf ball" or starts calling putts "efforts" then it's open season

Is sure is. I know "potheads" they let it affect their regular life in negative ways, they are slow, they don't work well. They should not have protection from being fired for cause. Pot is a main cause or correlated symptom. I also know users that handle the substance without any issues. I don't call them potheads. I have no reason to think of them individually in a derogatory fashion. Disdain is reserved for individuals that demonstrate they deserve it. Not broad demographics of people

The delivery of the "incredulous question" - like you can't figure out what he meant? picking nits, we know what he meant. 3 times since this true comeback - and it's pretty close to 3 in a year's period (13 months and 5 days?) even if it spans 3 seasons...... I suspect you are. Watch him play in these things next time. Watch closely. As for "padding his stats".......really? I think this happens organically, he doesn't have to worry about it. Lastly - the team events are huge for someone with an ego of the type you are hypothesizing.. IMHO - he likely cares more about wins in the Ryder Cup, Pres Cup, Olympics more than anything other than a Major. And all for his own reasons.

I still see a few score cards that actually say "Ladies" or something of the sort. It's idiotic and needs to stop. Or there's 4 sets on the top of the card, and then another 1 or 2 on the bottom - seriously? why? Just stack them up longest to shortest. Leave the ego, or the chauvinism or whatever drives that thing somewhere else....or just ignore it.... I suspect a lot of courses like that might very well just have a huge inventory of old score cards to burn through...... For that matter, colors don't all follow the same pattern (White/Black/Green/Blue/Gold/Read whatever) between different courses. One course white is longest, another Blue or Black (or platinum gold or silver) might be.....or the tees won't even be colors, they'll be named. If I'm playing a new course - I'll look at the total yards - cross check the par 3's to see if they did something wierd (i don't want to play four 240+ yard P3's just to get my yardage in - and then pick the yardage that I think I 'feel' like playing that day. The last thing I check is the color that goes with that yardage. If I'm really paying attention, I might check the slope/ratings, but that doesn't really figure into it - I pick my yardage only - I don't mind any other variation involved. Also - it's fun to play the same course but to change up the tees played. There are cool things and surprises in there when the course is designed well. On some days, it'll get really wierd and I'll look at each individual hole and play whatever tee suits my fancy or practice plan (not often though) So if someone asks which tees to play, leave the card alone and ask them what total yards they want. Only once they answer do you pull the card, then just play whatever is closest to that. If they twitch because it's the 'red' tees, then you have something to tease them about during the round. It's funny - I played yesterday and chose on the first tee to play split green/black. Black is normally at my top comfort at 6800, but green is 6400. But it was cold and the last day open - the split is a little over 6500-----PERFECT for me pretty much in any temp. Joke's on me. Since it's was the last day open, they closed a few boxes and the entire day black = green.....I'm going to claim I played all black now after the fact.....(it was a mix of the short and long - I think the net result was close to mix vs either of them)

Number 10 on Chaska Town Course. Lots of really good shots this day including some long shots.... But a short par 4 usually a nice easy break for me stands out with the aproach. I was hitting well, so I pulled driver and planned to just hit over the left fairway bunker. Not hard and there's room for a miss. Usually leaves an 8 iron or so or shorter. And there's a tail wind, so maybe I should swing extra hard.......yanked it left towards #9 fairway and now there's a stand of trees between me and the green. To make it worse, I crushed it, so it's too close to the trees and they are tall. 104 out, mostly tail wind, slight push from the right. The tallest tree is right on my line. Funny how being in the wrong fairway makes the shots harder.... Though my sand wedge is normally my 100 yard full swing, I've not hit it great this year - suffering from not committing. 100 yards max. And I have uploft it to pull this shot off due to the big trees. No issue committing to this one. perfect and pure and I land on the right half of the green close to pin highand it even spins left. leaving and 8 footer right to left for birdie - which I miss of course..... That was a satisfying wedge.

Played twice this weekend. Friday (birthday) left work early and played Willinger - A great design south of the cities. The pair of designers pretty much worked together on 4 of my favorite courses in the midwest. I try to play them all. did 3 of 4 this fall. 1 over on the front 11 - clean play. probably 12 over meltdown on the last 7 - high winds and I caught and played with a twosome on 10. Fun guys, but I'm better relaxed and solo. Good day. Sunday - Chaska Town Course (I've moved there, so instead of playing it once a fall, I can get resident rates). 4th round this fall.... Best round of the year on their last day open. 40 degrees and windy. 3 birdies (on 2 par 5's and one short 4) and 2 bogies - one of the bogies was a 3 putt, the other I hit a bunker and couldn't get up and down.... Just an empty course, mucked around, looked for balls, played the risk shots and got them to work - even the last hole I got the par 5 green in two which is just a stupid move most of the time. A good hitting day for sure. Interesting in the only common factor of my 2 best rounds of the year were that I put on a new glove. And the balls actually went where I was pointing them......But I also chipped slightly better and definitely hit my long irons better than usual.

Captain or not, that's an honest statement. He certainly made his case for a pick and I hope he does play. Gary sure had an opportunity to make his case playing along side. I think he was doing pretty well in that aspect until the last half day - a lot flatter and it seems the captains look for overall play, but also clutch putting..... This ^^^ all day long

fun to watch Tiger play like that. Too bad they couldn't do 36 on Sunday - both Tigs and Hideki were playing better and in the zone. The media milked the entire 82 and Tiger winning hype so much, that the Monday play and win was a dead fish for them - they'd already cashed it all in. All the followup came up flat.....typical golf channel just doesn't have a clue how to report on golf.

Seems like weather always comes in stupid weird when a tournament has a chance to be interesting to me.....Saturday conditions should be fun.....hit it high and find where it plugs.....

nope, just a generic gripe against stinky unhealthy shit people do to themselves from the perspective someone that actually medically effected by said shit in addition to just being annoyed or mildly inconvenienced - it doesn't change my philosophy concerning individual choice, but drugs and smoking do seen to stretch it to it's limit - we're good. "not dying" ...sure, if we define the debate by that criteria - it's safe, People don't die from over drinking either, it's the car wreck that kills them, or the house burning down. (Seriously, I don't care. I don't have any reason to research the topic. I don't plan to participate, nor do I plan to try and outlaw it. I support legalization, but that's due a general philosophy of live and let live, so trying to justify it beyond that reason is moot. I consider legalization needs to come with the ability of employers to choose their people if they smoke, and with limits when use affects others, and for private businesses to prohibit on their property - no one needs to walk through a smoker's cloud or eat or otherwise - they've done a piss poor job in this area for smoking, I don't expect better with pot. And visiting CO is just a shit show - everything stinks of it. especially the airport).

Do You Like "Big Hole" Tournaments?
rehmwa replied to ChetlovesMer's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
never played in one though I've seen the big cups on greens before Offhand, I can think of a dozen reasons why I'd hate it. more power to those that it doesn't annoy I suppose -
i'm talking the long term degradation I see in friends and others. (I'd caviat that these were long term and relatively heavy users - friends that are casual recreation fare relatively normally with no issues - my only issue with them is how bad their jackets and breath smells.....worse than cigarettes - this is coming from an asthma and migraine history, so 2nd hand annoyance is very personal for me...) again - my philosophy is people should be able to do with themselves anything they like. but they should do these things with eyes wide open and avoid rationalization and denial. This absolutely includes things I disagree with (which apparently is a strange attitude in today's world).

pretty much the same issues I have with cigarettes and cigars - I think smokers are idiots for using too - mostly 2nd hand smoke and that it crosses into the areas of non-smokers - find a way to do it that's not intrusive and I'm good to go. But I have no issue with people arguing for recreational use with arguments that are solely on topic. People do a lot of dumb stuff with their bodies and they should have the freedom to make those choices.....and any other choice. As for abusers showing clear sign of brain dysfunction - seen it so much. Doesn't seem worth it. but I don't think it matters - it should be legal. People do a lot of legal self destructive things For that matter, I'm not a fan of drunks either. These can be used smartly, but those that are fanatical about it are the ones to ruin it for others.

that's a good point. I phrased that poorly, from what I can tell, it's not that type of addictive. I simply meant that it appears to me they are climbing on a convenient bandwagon (medical) that should be a totally separate discussion from recreational. It appears to me to be selfish and opportunistic. I'd prefer an honest approach that highlights personal freedom and choice in life vs overregulation by the government. Not - "that guy has glaucoma, THEREFORE, I should be able to smoke weed for the fun of it"

Matt owned it and is taking his suspension under the rules. No issues there. I have a difficult time with the idea that he took no action to find alternate or get exemption in a game where a big ticket payday could happen literally any time and something like this would derail those opportunities. Know the rules, know your options. Seems he issued this mainly because it apparently was communicated as a "drug abuse" issue. Not simply breaking a rule that requires a suspension. this is appropriate that he gets it clear so at least "reasonable" people don't escalate a false accusation. (as for the topic - I think it should be legal both recreational and medical, but people that use recreationally are idiots. Employers should get to decide if they want users in the payroll or not - that's a private contract. Trickier when it's government employment though. Medical use? - CBD is an option, but even not, the stuff can be pharmacised and dose controlled. The legalization routes are seriously flawed so far today by just opening the floodgates to pacify voters and making statements. I think the recreational users try to ride the argument with the medical users to ride their coattails - and these are is totally separate discussions and should not be convolved. it's irrelevant and selfish and not genuine at all to try to ride the medical discussion just to be falsely included by association - they just want any excuse to get their fix. - and that hurts the argument for the medical users - which is a very important and legitimate topic.

The Robin Mathews Williams Approach
rehmwa replied to Hugh Jars's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I admit I read the subject as Robin Williams and clicked on it because of that. Imagine my letdown upon seeing the McLesson topic. Thanks for the video - improved the thread considerably. -
So a buddy at work was VERY excited and learning to golf. having a hard time, dinking around and going full bore cheap on his clubs..... I went to Golfsmith as they were going out of business and saw a set of used Mizuno JPX EZs - SUPER GIR for just a couple hundred. I hit them, noted they had compatible shafts with his swing speed (at least as I thought he needed). Dragged him to the store to buy them. Hi old irons were so worn out that they had no grooves (either nearly smooth, or so rusted that they weren't visible). He improved instantly - I don't care if you have a totally crap swing - you also can't improve if you don't at least have something worth training on......
