I'm a 5 handicap and purchased the 57's in June. It's the best purchase I've made yet. I was playing Titleist 990's previously. The 57's are forgiving yet workable, and to me, still have plenty of "feel" for a mishit. I went with the x5.5 shaft and have loved them much more than the DG shaft. I can work my 57's very well and highly recommend them. I played the 57, 60, and the Titleist 755 and AP before going with the 57's.

Am I taking the club back far enough?
noxnasdaq replied to albatross's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
You can create some more power through building up coil. You let your left leg turn and slide. Work on building a better turn at the hips, not necessarily taking the club back any further though. -
I hate club throwing, but will admit I did it this weekend. And, my little temper tantrum cost me a couple hundred bucks, because I shattered my Speeder 757 driver shaft! Sad thing was, I was still heated from the two holes before, pushed a drive right into the water, and still got up and down for par 4. I was ticked because I needed to shoot even par on the back nine to have 79 for the day, and ended up at 80, +1 on the back.

43-37-80 Didn't play bad on the front, but lipped out a birdie and two par putts, but got up and down for a couple of pars and a bogey that helped. Missed a 5 footer for birdie on the back that would have put me at even on the back 9.

$240/month on my junior exec membership + $10/per round for a cart. (actually paid for by my employer, so I guess I pay $0 to play)

I had this problem and when I finally got fitted, come to find out I needed irons that were more upright and thats about it. Could be that simple.

work on your short game. How many times can a high handicapper look back at a round and count 3 duffs, a shank, and four 3 putts? It's all short game and course management, and checking your ego at the door (don't try to drill a 9 iron 150 if you can't do it, take an extra club).

Best golf ball....UMM???

ProV1x because I like the feel and workability. I don't stray to far from them unless I have to. -
Nothing beats standing in the fairway on #2 and it's dead silent other than some birds chirping, slightly cool air and fresh grass. Love it. I walk out in the morning to have a cup of coffee and can't get to the course fast enough.

played yesterday with family member that is somewhere in the 20 handicap range, horrible swing and wicked slice unless he comes over the top and pulls it, to which he thinks he hit a "draw". He constantly will ask me what I'm hitting, and tries to hit the SAME club. I find it amusing now and if he wants to constantly come up short, that's his problem. As for the 250 yard drive on a 550 yard par 5, he did that on #18 yesterday, and then sat in the fairway for 10 minutes with a 20 MPH wind straight in our face. My other buddy and I were laughing hysterically and I finally told him to hit and if he got it there I'd take the blame if he hit someone. He waited until they walked off and then left the next shot about 100 yards short.

Par 72 course from Gold (Championship tees): 38 - 41 - 79 1st hole nice hybrid off the tee, flush 9 iron from 135 and birdied from 5 feet 2nd hole 4 iron back of the green, two putted from 35 feet 3rd hole flush drive with a slight draw, hybrid to 40 yards, chipped on and didn't check up and slid by, 2 putted from 15 fee on a rt to left breaker 4th hole slight draw 5 iron landed pin high, 2 putted from 8 feet above the hole. 5th hold drove it in the middle of the fairway, leaving 156 to the pin, played it to 165 and carried the green by 2 yards like a moron, went into the yard, dropped, flopped up, two putted. 6th sliced a hybrid, carried a 56 degree over water from 115 and went deep, used a 60 degree up, and one putted from 20 feet for par 7th drove it WAY right, PW to the front from where I was at, and three putted from the fringe 8th drove the fairway, 4 iron from 220 on par five just on the back edge of the green and rolled off, chipped down, 2 putted for par from 10 feet 9th drove it short of the green on dogleg left, chipped with 60 degree that didn't release on the fringe, two putted. Front - 38 10th hit the driver high, 56 degree down wind from 120 that didn't release but backed up on the front edge, two putted for par. 11th drove it down the middle, chunked a 60 degree, putted from 20 yards short of the green and caught the front slope and didn't make it on, putted again from just off the green to 2 feet, tap in. 12th hit a 6 iron into the wind playing 164 to the pin, pushed it right into the bunker. 60 degree out of the bunker and made a 12 footer for par. 13th hit it down the right side and wind didn't move it, ended up in the right rough, left an 8 iron short in the bunker, chipped out over the green, chipped back on and 2 putted from 20 feet. 14th drove it down the middle, layed up with a 7 iron, hit a 9 iron on the front that back off the green, PW up by the hole and one put for par. 15th hit a driver WAY right and then guestimated a PW to the backside of the green, lipped out a put from 50 feet and tap in for par. 16th hit a 9 iron 151 pin high, lipped out a birdie put from 6 feet on the high side. 17th hit the drive in the water right, dropped, hit a draw 7 iron from a slice lie and slice wind, hit the green, two putted for bogey. 18th bombed a driver into the wind, hybrid that I hit well but just ever so slightly fat, lip of the bunker then then had a fried egg that I almost broke a wrist getting out with a 56 degree to hole high, two putted for par. 41 and total 79.

What do you hit from 200 yards?
noxnasdaq replied to nykfan4life's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Calm conditions, PW, windy I'll hit a smooth 9iron. Down wind a 56* Just kidding of course. Perfect conditions a 5 iron. -
I've had the same thing happen lately. Got fitted for Titleist 755 last year and rep had me at +0.5" and 2* flat. Went to golf galaxy last week and they fitted me at +1" and 1* upright.

$132,000. Average inflation for the last 10 years is roughly 2.8% annually, so there's my answer. And why are we discriminating against those under 30 (I'm 28)? I'm under 30 but can still have some insight into this question. The primary driver is cost of housing. Starter homes that used to be $80K are now $140K. I firmly believe you can live on what you make (some exception to the rule), but the old saying of you spend more when you make more is true. Money doesn't go nearly as far when you look at savings, retirement, tithe, housing, transportation, etc. The best thing that has happened to me is my wife is self employed, while I'm W-2. The first sign of poverty is a W-2 (kidding, but not really). We save a bundle with my wife self employed and the write-offs. Luckily my wife and I think alike on money and debt. We have a 15 year mortgage and one car payment, and I have a small student loan from college. Hopefully by the time I'm 40 I'm completely debt free.

If you don't play by the rules, then you aren't truly what your handicap is showing, period.

putting. Guys hardly ever 3 putt, and distance control is unreal, and I think the biggest difference from an amateur.

Average golfer should take an extra club than what they think they should hit, take a smooth swing with good tempo, and can help with GIR. Count how many times you come up short on approach shots in a round and I bet for most it's around 80-90% of the time.
-
I'd only recommend for the best of players out there, and there probably aren't many amateurs that could benefit. If anything, I think it would hurt their game. Most players just need to learn to really play one wedge around the greens, not worry about a 64*
-
Which Wedge Do You Use Most Often?
noxnasdaq replied to FutureSound's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I use both 56* and 60* about the same depending on the situation. I like my 60 from 40-60 yards to throw it back and spin it, and like my 56 closer in to get a couple of skips and then some spin on it. Also working on using a 9 iron closer around the greens to bump and run better. -
Thoughts on the Titleist 905R driver?
noxnasdaq replied to clubmaker15's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
905 is good driver, I actually play the 907 D2 now and love it. I really like the consistent look and feel to titleist. -
I average 270-275 carry, swing speed of 115 on average with driver (90 D2 8.5*, Fujikura Speeder 757 x-stiff shaft). I played with a guy the other day that I hadn't seen since highschool. He's 6-4, athletic build, gets up on the first par 5 and crushes it. I step in and hit (I'm average build, 6'), hit away, and after he ask how far I hit on average. I tell him, then ask him, to which he says "300 - 310". Drive down the fairway to the first ball and he sits there for a minute, and wonders why I'm not getting out. I say to him simply, "that's you, I'm 20 yards up the fairway." Boy was he pissed.
