  1. Maybe Spieth WAS on the clock on 12 and it got in his head.
  2. Two in the water on 12 happened
  3. Jordan was afraid of going long!
  4. I'm waiting for some golfer to break his age in a major. A number of golfers have done it on the Champions Tour, and Sam Snead did it in a regular PGA event: http://golf.about.com/od/faqs/f/ageshooters.htm
  5. I'll go with experience. Langer wins tomorrow.
  6. Are we including the women? I'll go with Birdie Kim.
  7. NFL players in the 70s still bore some resemblance to normal human beings. Today they're like The Incredible Hulk. Do fans really think they were just born that way?
  8. Being in contention on the weekend tends to get airtime, beard or no.
  9. I'm no fan of Poulter, but this is golf. It's supposed to be classier than certain sports played in large stadiums full of drunken louts.
  10. Somehow the beard looked better on Old Tom Morris.
  11. That was an analogy made by O W Holmes in the case US vs Schenk, a horrible analogy that had nothing to do with the case at hand, unless one is for censorship. US vs Schenk was overturned in 1969, by the way: http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2012/11/its-time-to-stop-using-the-fire-in-a-crowded-theater-quote/264449/
  12. Apart from the Brit-, er, The Open, has anyone ever seen a sizable gallery at a European Tour event? I know this week's event wasn't anywhere near Europe, but even when they have the odd event in Germany or France, it looks like the players are being followed by a few members of their immediate families.

If Fleck was all-around good at everything, he'd have won more than two tournaments.
  14. Lee Trevino was doing that before Tiger was even born: https://books.google.com/books?id=IdsZUwS63KwC&pg;=PA95&lpg;=PA95&dq;=%22lee+trevino%22+%22solid+ball%22&source;=bl&ots;=V-0YTBtnP9&sig;=NXXgDNFkccQKEXgkn4pzf2OrdyI&hl;=en&sa;=X&ved;=0CB4Q6AEwAGoVChMI4P7lq5KOxwIVhho-Ch1XywKm#v=onepage&q;=%22lee%20trevino%22%20%22solid%20ball%22&f;=false
  15. Among other difficulties with Jack's theory, is that the "equipment advances" of his era seem trivial compared to what had come before: wooden balls to featheries to gutta percha to rubber core. And similarly with golf clubs. And why does it have to have a levelling effect? Couldn't the advantage go to the few players best able to adapt to the new equipment? Isn't that basically what Hogan did? Developed a swing that wouldn't have worked with wood-shafted clubs but was made for the new steel shafts?
  16. Anybody remember Julius Boros? He wasn't a soft hitter, either. But slow on the backswing ...
  17. Quote: “I am often asked to comment on the causes for the ‘decline of the superstar’, as many writers have chosen to call it. The problem with this is, Jack said this in 1996, just before a superstar took over golf.
  18. Note to Ian Baker-Finch: Ryo is one syllable. He's not a Spanish river.
  19. I know that, and you know that, but does Gary Player know that?
  20. Yes, it's undoubtably more lucrative to caddy for Bubba than for Allenby.
  21. Quote: “Go to Africa, where we’ve got all these young black kids used to seeing a white guy as the champion. Now they’re getting inspired; they’re sitting in front of their TV sets. It inspires them; it gets them interested in golf. So, with all the black basketball players in the USA, winning Olympics and the like, why isn't basketball popular in Africa? Such African teams as do exist are completely unsuccessful internationally. And basketball is a lot cheaper to play than golf.
  22. What if they retire and make a comeback?
  23. I'll bet he refuses to play your courses too.
  24. Rory's injury wouldn't prevent anyone with a desk job from going to work - well, maybe a few days.
  25. In Soviet Russia, sports play you! (Sorry, couldn't resist.)
