SwingSnap Self-V Headcover

Looks pretty nifty. I've got a gorilla pod that I try and mount to my clubs/bag but it doesn't work very well. Hard to get the right pitch angle. That thing looks better, but I'd have to try it to see. -
Heh. I'm a light weight. If I went through that much booze in a couple days, I'd be dead. Also COFFEE!!! Forgot about that. Gotta go pick some up on the way home.

The main thing I stocked up on was booze. Got a 6 pack of beer and a bottle of scotch. I'm at work, but the government shuts down at noon, so I'll head home then.

Welcome aboard and thank you for your service. :)

Hi at89. I actually played Murcar Links once a long time ago. I wasn't a very good golfer (not that I am now either, but I was a hacker then), but I had a great time. The weather changed ever other hole. And the layout was nothing like what you'd see in the US.

Fascinating article. Gotta feel bad for Kevin. He puts so much pressure on himself, but that just makes him play worse.

What is the single worst common on-course breach of etiquette?
davechen replied to bkuehn1952's topic in Golf Talk
Hitting into the group in front of you. Walking on a line never bothered me, not since metal spikes went away. Of course I don't walk on other people's line, but if someone walks on mine? Eh. -
Hi PostGrad. I live in Bethesda, which isn't too far. You can see some of the other members in the area over on the thread discussing a Mid-Atlantic outing.

My first tournament was the Greater Greensboro Open back when I lived in Chapel Hill, NC. When I lived in Houston I went to the Shell Houston Open once or twice. More recently I've been to the AT&T and the US Open at Congressional, which is about 5 miles from my house. The crowds at that US Open were nuts, but I was pretty close to Rory on one tee shot. I would like to go to an LPGA tournament one of these days. They seem to be much less crowded, the distances they hit are closer to me, and, well, there are some pretty attractive players. I haven't seen any tournaments particularly close to me though.

Mid-Atlantic Outing (April 9, 10 2016)
davechen replied to jsgolfer's topic in Member Outings & Meetups
I'm very interested. Do you mean May 22-23, i.e., Sunday & Monday? Anyways, either dates should be all right. I could probably only play one day on the weekends. If it was Sunday-Monday, I might be able to do both. -

I mostly play the Montgomery County courses but I don't have a pass. I play in the NIH golf league, and so half the time the league is paying for my golf. The pass wouldn't do me much good then. Also MCG have a really great family golf deal. At twilight hours, if you have a kid, 9 holes costs 10 bucks each, including cart. My son and I do that a lot. -

It reminded me of seeing the original movie with it came out. I was a kid and hadn't really heard anything about the movie, just that it was good and we had to see it. So we went and my mind was blown. Same feelings today. Yeah there are plot elements that seem unlikely or improbably, but you just have to give in to the awesomeness. Afterwards there was a nerdy guy complaining about this, that or the other, but ITS FRICKIN STAR WARS!!! Don't over think it, dude. I'm verklempt.

Non golf specific rangefinder?
davechen replied to Will82's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
The impression I get is that the difference between the golf and non-golf range finders is the way they filter the data. For the golf range finders, they take a bunch of distance samples and pick the nearest one. For the hunting ones, they take an average of the samples, or something like that. So it's more designed to pick up large objects, making picking out a flagstick more difficult, although not impossible. You probably would need a steadier hand. -
I bought tickets online today. We're going to see it Sunday afternoon. I picked the fanciest theater around 3D, Dolby Atmos Sound, "Arclight Widescreen" format, whatever that means.

Mid-Atlantic Outing (April 9, 10 2016)
davechen replied to jsgolfer's topic in Member Outings & Meetups
I'd be up for it. I usually play the Montgomery County courses but would be happy to play anywhere within an hour's drive or so. Especially if it's some new, nice course I haven't played. Whiskey Creek, Worthington Manor, Blue Mash and Waverly Woods are the nicer courses I've played in the past year. They've all been in good shape. -
I think it's a great idea. If I were at the mall with my wife, I'd be all over it. Thankfully she's not a fan of malls the way many women seem to be.

You can read up on how handicaps are calculated at the USGA web site here: http://usga.org/Rule-Books/Handicap-System-Manual/Handicap-Manual/ It's not too hard to figure out. You can set up a spreadsheet to compute it, or there are plenty of on-line sites that will do it for you. I use thegrint.com and diablogolf.com to compute an official handicap. Of course if you want a real handicap, rolling your ball is right out. No mulligans, and count all penalties properly. You can read the rules of golf at the USGA's web site too: http://usga.org/Rule-Books/Rules-of-Golf/Rule-01/

Mid-Atlantic Golfers Group introduction
davechen replied to inthehole's topic in Member Outings & Meetups
Hi y'all. I'm in MoCo too, Bethesda in particular. If it wasn't raining I'd be out there hitting the links. It should be dry this weekend, and I plan on playing. -
Article On: The Greatest Golfer From Every State

What? They put Tiger in Florida, not California. -
My average drive has been 235 recently, and on Sunday I hit on 261, measured with Golfshot GPS on my phone. On that drive I had a bit of a breeze behind me and it landed on a bit of a downslope.

Heh. I've thought that on occasion, but I wasn't going to say that to UNLV fans. :)

Oh man. I was at that game in 1991. I sat there and saw Carolina lose to Kansas and then had to watch Dook beat UNLV. Boy did that suck. UNLV should have won that game. They just had never been in a tight situation all season, so they weren't used to it.

Woohoo! College basketball! My alma maters are California and North Carolina. Come basketball season it's mainly about UNC, although Cal is very good this year too. During my time as a grad student at UNC, I went to 4 Final Fours and all 6 of UNC's NCAA Tournament games in 1993, when we beat Michigan for the title. This year we are the #1 ranked team, so things are looking good. Marcus Paige has a hairline fracture in his non shooting hand, so he'll be out for a bit, but hopefully he'll be back in 3-4 weeks. We are one of the favorites to win the title this year, but who knows. I have tickets to our season opener tonight in Annapolis. We're in the Veteran's Classic playing Temple. The other game is Navy vs. Florida. Oh, and my son's middle name is Dean, in honor of Dean Smith.

Shot an 89 (41-48) today at Needwood Golf Course. I joined up with some young guys, so we played from the blues, where I normally played from the whites. On the front I played as well as I had in a long time. I made a number of long putts including one that was 35 feet or so. I fell apart and the back, though. The last 4 holes sucked, triple, double, double, double. Here's my card: http://golfshot.com/Rounds/Detail/315-31853247-31853574
