  1. Still reading. Just started Shot zone. I'm a lefty, 20 cap , I suppose the oval is opposite for me, and that make s sense for my own play. I may find this out as I read more tonight... but...is there any rule of thumb for which side of tee box to use vs hazards? My ball flight is basically a fade. I generally play the left side of a golf course fairway or left side of a green. Should I start taking that gamble and aim a little more right
  2. First saw this in the 70's-late night beer drinking in old montreal-I think it was the little box--ladies line got long, they started a single line...we all lived...visiting Ireland a few years back, on a bus tour...couple places we visited only had one bathroom. I was spending 12 hours a day with these folks so added another few minutes as a lady took a whiz in the stall next to me, then we washed our hands together...I think it was a Dane Cook skit I saw where he suggested that one of the things we humans all have in common...we will have a painful crap, lol
  3. Got mine last week. Thanks. Early in the book. So far separation value and weight forward have resonated with me ...weight forward...Unconsciously started a slight weight forward shift as a start to my backswing this past weeks and finding I am striking the ball a little more consistently ....SV...I am often 20 yards short on approach but put away those 20 yards due to clubs I think I wasn't striking well. Gonna rethink getting those 20 yards back. Maybe it is the faster back swing. I'm a very laid back person and so is my swing.
  4. I am not a member , I play munis and public. I have played a number of local private places, with members. The perks don't drive me: clean shoes, club storage, minimum monthly spending all the while dealing with the self proclaimed socially elite. Like others have said, I'll change in public places. I even bring my own snacks. I've a family friend who put down her $35M share membership and pays $6M a year for her family. She wanted clean shoes and was willing to pay for it. She is now trying to sell as she feels getting out ten times a year doesn't pay for it I like that comment about frats At the end of the day its your own priorities.
  5. My wife and I use a bushnell watch-front, middle and back. At our hcps, its good enough for ue. usually get two 18 rounds out of a charge As long as you don't mind using a watch its great. We walk so don't need another gizmo to have to find and open No fiddling with a phonie or draining its battery
  6. Our mens night plays at a course near a lot of water. Bugs were bad monday night. They were swarming around me but no bites. I use Muskol. I really use a lot. all exposed skin and my cap. Always wear long pants
  7. Koepka earned just over $7 last year and over $5 so far this year. Plus commercial endorsements and appearance money. Maybe he is that rigid in his thinking. He makes the choice of what equipment he plays. If he's comfortable with his gear, those major exemptions are worth big bucks. If he's comfortable with his gear maybe he does win his 10 plus majors. He seems a guy that has a goal. We all have egos. His might just be majors and maybe he is able to scrape by on $20 or more a year, until his share price really explodes and someone throws $100 at him.
  8. Finally broke down: ordered LSW...just waiting for delivery. Started the recluse series a while back, think I'm on book 16
  9. This is my game. Late last year, I started seeing my HCP creeping up a couple of points. I thought about that and decided to use my informal HCP app just to track the number of rounds I play. I'm out 13 times so far this year and it has decreased by 0.2. Now, all I'm trying to do is to play smarter. I've shot a high of 51 and a low of 39. Probably the range my ability drives. I've come to realize without additional time or more instruction, I am where I am. That thinking has really changed my attitude when I play. Way calmer. I just have to remember to take my medicine. No hero shots...I never make them
  10. I finally learned that I cannot hit a ball through a tree when the ball is up against a tree. Punch it out , take my medicine
  11. Read somewhere that us amateurs tend to hit the club that we hit the longest and that we might instead want to consider (after a tee shot on a par 4 or 5) looking at dividing the remaining distance in half (par 4) to thirds (par 5). If that distance is about our driver distance, consider a shorter club to give you a realistic chance at getting on in GIR +1 and giving your self a higher loft approach. (nothing like sticking a 3 wood approach lol) Trying to hit it further is too much work, I'm sticking with accuracy and moving up a tee box.
  12. Interesting thread. These caddies are around the tour and the pro's all the time, used to all of the pressure ...but...carrying for Tiger must be a whole different ball game...the press...20 times the fans...distractions because its Tiger. Then having to read the golf situation of a legend...whoa!
  13. Try not to lose that enjoyment. A guy I occasionally golf with shoots low/mid 70's and thought he'd try his hand at Monday qualifiers for Mackenzie tour spots. Managed to get a corporate sponsor for travel etc. Played four Mondays, never broke par.72-74 The number ten guy was always -4. He just wanted to see what that world was all about. He is now playing with his buds, drinking a few beers and shooting low 70's and having fun.

    Science

Just found this thread-fascinating. No idea what is driving this ...seems to have history...I love the topic of Belief. "Belief is the state of mind in which a person thinks something to be the case regardless of empirical evidence to prove that something is the case with factual certainty. Truth is a term used to indicate various forms of accord with fact or reality, or fidelity to an original or to a standard or ideal. Fact: something that is known to have happened or to exist, especially something for which proof exists, or about which there is information Proof; evidence or argument establishing or helping to establish a fact or the truth of a statement" I'm starting to "Believe" most of us take a position based on "our" interpretation of the "facts" and the "source" and then rationalize our "belief". I recently met a younger women who lives her life debating other peoples positions even during social encounters, if they differ from her beliefs; which she is quick to point out are based in fact. She will never change her position. I grew up learning basic math through memorization: one plus one equals two. I did that until I went to school where I was taught more complicated memory exercises. I've used math in the workplace for 45 years. I believe it to be true because I seem to get the same results as others around me. But I don't "Know" or have "proof" it is true. I just "believe " it is true. It seems Golfers (and instructors for that matter) are of two camps...the video game generation and the pre video game generation. (I believe I first heard that from Debbie Donigar) I'm of the pre V generation-If I speak to an instructor who spouts "data" from trackman I tend to tune out. Its not that I don't believe the data, the facts are are important or "true", just that I can't relate. I don't care about "why". Just tell me how to swing differently, and its ok to physically touch me to show me what you are trying to get me to achieve. My son, a V generation, loves the data (possibly because he "believes" it is "Fact" and can change ball flight by talking to him about where you want spin to reduce to or angle of attack. "You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into." Interesting statement...but...at some point, the reasoning of the position comes down to an aha moment, final "belief"... Whew, got that crap out of my head...now I;ll go make a shopping list
  15. Good on ya-One of the munis I play, we see coyotes daily-just sunning on the cart paths-marshall told us they had a cull and found one bedding area in thick bush, included 30 -40 dog collars. We are seeing a lot of Prairie hares in the neighbourhood the past couple of years, coyotes will be next.
  16. I've got the #7 Heavenwood-love it Got a cobra king 7 Nine equivalent. Love them both Took the hybrids and 5 iron out of the bag. I've decided I want to enjoy the round, not slave over constant improvement, so just use clubs I can hit consistently.
  17. I'm a lefty. When I first started, I was hitting balls at a range with an acquaintance who was a righty and he stood at the next stall. I found his explanations easy to understand as I mimicked him. He didn't use words like right and left, just words like back swing, front foot, back foot. It eliminated the lefty righty thang. I'm a visual guy so it was like being in a mirror. Might not work for everybody especially if you are not a visual learner. Might be good for your son.
  18. The wife and I play as we get closer to season opening. Its fun. We rarely finish 18 as she likes to take "do overs" and we always use a 10 foot gimme. The one thing I do like is that it makes me think about my next shot. A little mental practice
  19. Poor club selection. I gotta stop picking the club I can hit the next farthest and pick smarter , starting with the tee box. Approach shots are often to far out. If I play for par +1, I believe I would shoot lower scores.
  20. This. I buy the wilson duo, on sale, 36 for $50. Two thing I have learned in my short time. 1. A $5.00 ball sinks as quickly as a $0.50 ball. 2. If it's not my ball in the water, I leave it there.
  21. I'll even take a stinky, questionable major or tour win,lol
  22. If its majors Jack Nicklaus, 20 combined wins in pro and amateur majors. Tiger Woods, 17. Bobby Jones, 13. Walter Hagen, 11. John Ball, 9. Ben Hogan, 9. Gary Player, 9. Arnold Palmer, 8. If its wins Billy Casper. PGA Tour wins: 51. Most wins in a year: 6 (1968) ... Byron Nelson. PGA Tour wins: 52. Most wins in a year: 18 (1945) ... Arnold Palmer. PGA Tour wins: 62. Most wins in a year: 8 (1960) ... Ben Hogan. PGA Tour wins: 64. ... Jack Nicklaus. PGA Tour wins: 73. ... Tiger Woods. PGA Tour wins: 80. ... Sam Snead. PGA Tour wins: 82. Nicklaus, Tiger, Hogan, Snead/Jones and I don't want to discount the women-just not as up on the greats: Kathy Whitworth 88 and 6 majors Mickey Wright 82 and 13 Annika Sorenstam 72 and 10 Louise Suggs 61 and 11 Wikipedia can't be wrong and they have all done so much for golf
  23. My wife retired last year and previously would never play alone. She ended up joining two ladies leagues, with strangers. She met a bunch of nice folks and took 5 strokes off her handicap (23 to 18). She's gonna be club treasurer at one of them this year. Besides improving, she really learned about the rules of golf. Enjoy the journey
  24. My wife and I play a local muni weekly. We see the same three single women who we are occasionally started with. They are all over 60, as are we, all walk with a push cart and all take it very seriously. Do I wonder why they are golfing alone? Probably cuz they want to go golfing, maybe have no significant other who golfs. Just a guess, but considering the amount of testosterone that is floating around many courses, many ladies who are single prefer to stay away. They want to golf, not fend off dating attention.
  25. Of course Pelz believes the short game is the most important piece of the game and remember what forum you are posting in...but...yes...It has some great information. Basic focus is on 100 yards and in. Short game. No full swing focus at all. I read it, plus a few others every winter. A fairly long read. As well as a little mental game and course management, his theory revolves around understanding/dialing in partial swing distance for short game. Regardless of Whether you buy in to how much time should be devoted to short game, it gives you a program to nail down your wedge distances. You still have to execute. There is no substitute
