  1. For me, I don't think I'd label it "arms first". I had this issue (push slice) for much of the last year and a half. I overcame it by adjusting my grip just a touch, a tiny bit stronger with my left hand. Coupled with the feel of "covering" the ball. Hard to describe that feel but it's essentially a timing thing. If I do end up "arms first", that's a sure pull hook for me. Happy that works for you and others but if that were my swing thought, I'd be in the left rough or woods every time.
  2. Counted 36 on my Yahoo handicap tracker. Probably 4 or 5 not posted. No wonder I'm not getting better, jeez.
  3. Definitely talking about that. They had a 5-run lead. Cat had pitched previous game. Throws 102 (wow!). Needed him in game 7 and he was spent, although still throwing heat, command off. Had he not pitched in game 6, I doubt 7 would have gone extra innings. Was great for the fans but I think that was over-managed, although I do admire Madden, esp facing him all those years with the Rays. I think he panicked a little.
  4. Madden almost blew it by over-managing pitchers in games 6 and 7, but I was glad the Cubs overcame those blunders. I'm sure he was too. He's a great manager but we all make mistakes. I remember how I felt in '04 when the Sox finally broke their curse, I'm happy for those long-suffering Cubs fans.
  5. I think that on a microscopic level, there would be almost no chance to place the ball precisely in its previous position with no variation to position or ground conditions. Whether that variation is material from a playing standpoint is debateable, I'd guess not most of the time. But, that doesn't negate the argument.
  6. Yeah, but 90% of TST members voted in a poll that he IS the GOAT, therefore... Wait, what? Lol.
  7. Almost fell outta my chair when I read this, shocker comment of the week.
  8. Well, fk me and fk that kid.
  9. Bit premature to jump to that conclusion. Seemed pretty legit and probably has better stuff to do than this. I think @RandallT's request was reasonable but for any number of reasons, I can see why he wouldn't care to comply. I enjoyed his insights while they lasted.
  10. Believe me, at this point, what difference does it make? THAT, I can tell you. Edit: apologies, guess I'm missing the political threads a little.
  11. Interesting about pured shafts, I know really nothing about it, never had it done but sure sounds damned important. Probably 2 points off my index right there. I have R7 TP irons, which are cast and even they get a little out of whack over 3 seasons or so. I can only imagine forged would be more significant.
  12. Would love to. Something I do do, however, is get the lofts and lies checked every 2 or 3 seasons. It's cheap and can really make a difference. I've done it twice now and most clubs require a tweak or 2 but both times my 7I was the most out of whack. Odd, maybe coincidence or maybe I dig that into the ground more than others, I dunno. But my point is, if you did this 4 years ago, it would be a good idea to get lofts and lies checked, if you haven't already. I don't know if trued shafts can become untrued, detrued, anti-trued? But I'd imagine so. They may be able to check that too.
  13. Man, that's just for irons too. Wow, tough decision but I'd LOVE to have that done with all of my clubs. Not sure about a $3000 price tag though. But just imagine what that could do for your game. If you got the dough, go for it, if not don't. Definitely a splurge thing for me so I'll look into it when I have an extra 2 or 3 grand around. Prolly be a couple years with all the expenses I still have today. One more kid still on the payroll.
  14. Love this comment, it's my general approach as well but damn, I do forget it from time to time and try to finesse the longer club in there; almost invariably a mistake (for me). New fan here Kyle, appreciate you reaching out to this forum.
  15. @paininthenuts Because it's pretty fitting.
  16. Royal Portrush. But I don't literally think about that course as I lay my head on the pillow. Typically that will be the best iron approach shot I hit that day or most recently. But this week it's a little different. I couldn't get my driver untracked on Sat. On the 4th hole, there's a creek about 260 across the fairway. So, I pulled my hybrid and hit the most beautiful, high, dead straight shot I've ever hit. Downwind, uphill, 240. I outdrove all 3 of my buds, 2 of whom used driver and the other a 3W. I can't get that shot out of my head, nor do I want to. That started my turn-around too, ended up crushing my driver rest of the day and hit some beauties. Drained 4 putts of 15-20 feet. Never did hit my irons very well or close so the shot I'm dreaming about now is that 240 yd 3H.
  17. My nemesis of late. 37/48 a few weeks ago. Infuriating. Much better when it's flipped. I'd have been a helluva a lot happier with a 48/37.
  18. Yes, I noted that too. My experience in net tournaments I've entered is that the lower handicap golfers come out ahead more often than not, probably due to the reason @NJpatbee pointed out: they're more consistent, the ranges across their last 20 are likely much smaller than a higher handicapper.
  19. Since I started using the big Winn grip about 4 years ago, my putting has improved immensely. Keeps my hands out of the stroke. Distance putts or short, it's been a boon.
  20. Now that is some inside knowledge I can get behind. I must be incorrect in my assessment.
  21. It's not something Tiger would make known to his closest confidantes, in fact it's not something he would want to acknowledge himself even. So, notwithstanding your inside knowledge, I'll continue to believe that Phil's recent play and the thought of the whipping he'd get and the embarrassment that would be to him played some role in his late withdrawal. Given your knowledge, it may be true that he would have withdrawn regardless of Phil's participation but I don't doubt Phil's presence at the Safeway helped nudge him in that direction. I concede that it may not have been the overarching reason.
  22. Turns out I will watch the World Series after all, haven't watched a lick of either CS since the Rangers and Sox were bounced, but I'm hoping the Cubbies get it done. Good stuff.
  23. Not foolish but I would almost guarantee Phil's 63 on Sunday at the Ryder Cup had every influence on Tiger's decision, especially considering they were going to be paired together and knowing their history. No doubt in my mind but obviously none of us know Tiger's mind, except maybe @colin007. No idea what u said there.
  24. Wasn't as sharp after seeing Phil light it up in MN. I honestly believe that if Phil weren't in the event, Tiger would have given it a shot but Phil's play at the Ryder Cup intimidated him. Phil has already beaten him heads up like 9 of the last 10 times they've played together. His ego couldn't handle getting spanked by 7 or 10 strokes by his arch-nemesis. I'll also be so bold, since we're all speculating here, to make the hypothetical assessment that if Tiger had teed it up, Phil likely would have won the event. Nothing inspires him quite like playing heads up with Tiger, especially the past 5 or 6 years.
  25. I think you're onto something here. While they're all the same rules, different officials can interpret them and adjudicate differently. The fact is, in the case of Noren, I would have thought that with longer grass (he was in lush rough) the player would have been much more likely to have caused the movement of the ball than anything DJ or JT did on a green. Yet they ruled no penalty. As I said, I liked the ruling because there wasn't anything to show that Noren caused the movement except for grounding the club a couple inches behind and inside the ball (not directly behind). The ball moved when his club had been pulled away maybe a second or two. Very similar to the other 2 cases except not on the green. Still it surprised me cuz I thought he was more guilty than the other 2. Oh well, we'll see if anything ultimately gets changed. I always favor the player in rules situations such as this, although I also believe if the player clearly moved the ball inadvertly, he should be penalized so I'm not completely against penalties. I just want the evidence to be certain and where it isn't, the player should get the benefit of the doubt. I hope they move in that direction.
