It's incredibly unlikely that he'd ever play on the US Ryder Cup team even if eligible but if he did I sure as hell would root for him. I can't believe you'd boo him if you are a US citizen. You'd root against your own team?

Welcome! I'm in Farmington Hills. I also used to play often but since the birth of my son have barely played. We are so fortunate to have dozens of fine public courses to play.

The Presidents Cup v The Ryder Cup - Which is best?
MSchott replied to Golfbreaks's topic in Tour Talk
Until 20 years ago or so, the European team is only payers from GB and I. And the population of the European countries that contribute players to their team is similar to the population of the US. -
The Presidents Cup v The Ryder Cup - Which is best?
MSchott replied to Golfbreaks's topic in Tour Talk
I'd be surprised if this poll isn't close to 100% in favor of the Ryder Cup. The OP is a Brit and is biased but most USA golf fans also think that the Ryder Cup is the true international competition. -
This is pretty far OT. But I don't see how this anecdotal moment means anything. I think fans have unrealistic expectations of the players, especially during a round. They are there to do a job not socialize with the fans. I'm sure Creamer and Kerr were focused on the golf. I've been to a number of pro tournaments, including an LPGA major. When the players are between the ropes, they are at work and act like it.

I hope it was a one time shot. Thy changed much of the essence of the course for that Open. What I'd like to see is the course restored exactly the way it was in 1930 and let the pros tear it up. Even more fun would be to have them play with period clubs and balls with restricted distance. Never going to happen but wouldn't that be cool?

Aren't tour pros actually plus handicaps, generally +5-6 strokes meaning they would give a scratch golfer 5-6 strokes/round? The difference between the best and worse tour pros is pretty subtle but consistent. As this week shows, even the best like Spieth can have bad rounds. All are capable of consistently destroying the average PGA tour course, Spieth and the best players are more consistent in all parts of their games.

Not nice. Creamer has always seemed nice and quite genuine. I'm not sure why you don't like her.

Bunkers & Rough - The New Look - Thumbs Down
MSchott replied to bkuehn1952's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I wouldn't go that far as the U of M course is one of the best courses in Michigan. Just stay away from the bunkers . -

Thank you. This greenskeeping practice makes no sense. if you hit a ball near the hazard it should have a chance to enter that hazard. Second, rough that deep is far too penal for everyday play. I think Dr. MacKenzie would not approve. -

PGA at Whistling Straits: Thoughts on attending my first major
MSchott replied to Spiethismyhero's topic in Tour Talk
I disagree about the costs. I guarantee that Whistling Straits and the surrounding community made huge amounts of money this past week. They could sacrifice some of this and provide better amenities. It's not the first time they've hosted a major and should know how to do this right. I think the larger issue are the venues used for some of the majors this year. Both Whistling Straits and Chamber's Bay are artificial courses built on severe land with lots of waste areas. The terrain makes it hard on spectators and limits grandstands. I've attended majors at Oakland Hills which is a classic parkland course and due to the traditional setting, grandstands are plentiful as are concession stands. I'm no fan of "stadium golf" which is beloved by the PGA and USGA but they are conducive to the spectator experience. Newer "links look" courses are the antithesis of this concept. Then again, Herb Kohler is a rich and powerful man and has made sure the PGA and LPGA come to pay homage on a regular basis. And the powers to be on these tours gladly follow the money. -

Do you have any pictures of this? My impression is that the U of M course is trying to go to fescue in some areas to conserve water but I did not know they were doing this around the bunkers which makes no sense. I did not notice this when I played there last summer. -
Who would the media prefer to take over Tiger's mantle?
MSchott replied to Scotsclaff's topic in Tour Talk
No doubt it's Jordan Spieth. They are already all over this kid. They play up his All American looks, background and family which appeals to their demographic. He fits the mold perfectly although IMO he's not as choir boyish as they make him. He can have quite the temper when a shot doesn't go as planned. -
Is that the best they can do? Maybe I am not the target market but that's not an attractive logo. The Stephan Curry logo is far nicer.

I consider a wood any club shaped like an old time wood. This includes hybrid clubs. I carry a Driver, a 3H and a 4H. No 3 wood these days.
Totally disagree that there's more pressure to win your FOURTH major IN A ROW just because the calendar year is the same. If anything the layoff adds to the difficulty a bit.
I just see it differently Erik. I do think that it's very well established that the term Grand Slam refers to the calendar year. What Tiger did is one of the most phenomenal feats in golf's history but it's just not as memorable as doing it in a calendar year. You can argue forever about the origin of the term and whether it's an "official" term but in modern golf lexicon, Grand Slam means in order: The Masters, the US Open, the British Open and the PGA. It's just my opinion by the way so lets leave it at that.
-
While I don't have a strong feeling one way or the other, there is more than a semantic difference. This may have been said in a previous post (I have not read all 21 pages) but there is added pressure in winning all 4 in one calendar year. It doesn't change the accomplishment which is earth shakingly amazing, but IMO it's not quite the same.

Article on Robert Allenby firing caddie and fan taking over
MSchott replied to boogielicious's topic in Tour Talk
The accounts of this I've read which quote many with first hand knowledge are not complimentary to Allenby. The fact that this is the 4th time one of his caddies has walked off the course in the middle of a round makes the golfer look quite bad. -

There are rules about oscillating balls but it appears that you can putt a ball that is oscillating but you have to be careful not to cause it to move yourself. When the wind is blowing that hard the players don't want to take chances.
-
You have no understanding of the rules of the game do you?
-
The point is that chemistry is far overblown between a caddie and player. The caddie does not hit the ball or coach the swing. Golf is all about the golfer and not the caddie. Tiger's swing is the issue, not his chemistry with LaCava. And none of Tiger's caddies, not Stevie, not Fluff needed to massage his ego.
