Which Balls for me?

Hi everyone,

After yesterday at the golf course my little brother made sure that I need to buy new balls.

As of right now I have just been using whatever I could find but I think I want to migrate to one specified make and use all the same balls.

I am really just starting out so I want a ball that I can learn with,

One that is inexpensive but high enough quality I can learn all the techniques, backspin, fades etc.

Please give me any suggestions.

Srixon!! There's a model for every swing.

Interesting, I haven't heard of that brand before, just looked them up on my phone.

The promotion of two dozen ad333's for 24$ seems like a pretty good deal, does anyone know if they are any good.

As soon as their ball selector loads I will look up which is right for me.

Any other recommendations, I have a week to figure this out.

They recommend the Srixon soft feel.

Are these going to be much different than the AD 333's?

24 balls for 25$ is gonna be tough to beat.

I will wait for some others to chime in before I buy anything though.

Seriously though, its one of the top 3 on tour. Titleist and Bridgestone being the other two.

The soft feel is good. The AD333 is more of a distance ball. You really cant go wrong with either one though.

Titleist and Bridgestone both have online fitting as well. Try them, and see what they tell you also. Give yourself some options.

Today I got a surprise gift of 2 boxes of nike power distance balls.

Not what I would have chosen but they were a two for one special so I guess its a good deal.

Once these are all gone hopefully I will know a little bit more of what I want.

They are excellent balls. That's a good price.

That's purely a "distance" ball. I find those older Nike balls to be garbage. If you want any sort of green side control with them, good luck! If you've got a high handicap you won't be able to tell the difference anyways, So just play them till you run out.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

For now, splitting the fairway is what I am going for,

When I start hitting more drives in play I will work on my green side control

Can I ask then why you are playing a $32/dozen ball? I am a mid capper and definitely can tell the differences between crap and decent balls.

The ad33 is an older ball I believe. I played them before and they're okay, decent feel off drive, irons and putter, but shorter then a lot of balls out there. Any ball called a "distance" ball, in my experience, is as hard as a brick to putt or get to spin and stop on firmer/hard greens.

Not knowing why you're missing fairways... is it because you're slicing a lot? Then maybe a low spinning rock hard distance ball will help you while learning, as a crutch.

You can't hurt your game or budget at all using the noodle ball, it's one good ball with decent distance, soft feel and decent spin. Nike one tour ot tour d are decent balls for the money too,,,

Otherwise you can usually pick up a year or two old premium ball on sale. There's a huge differencebetween all balls as you will see as your game improves.

The AD333 was one of my favorite mid-priced balls.  They're on sale cause the discontinued them and replaced them with the Q Star ball, but that's $30/dozen where the AD333 used to be $20/dozen.  I'd pick up the 24 for $25 for sure.  The Nike PD balls are also solid less expensive balls.  I like the PD soft myself, but the PD distance is solid too.

Bought mine on line for $1.50 a ball, mint condition from golf ball planet. Playing a Srixon Q-Star at the moment and got a sleeve of the new DT Solos,which are about $20 new per dozen. So I don't exclusively play 1 ball. I agree that there is a difference between decent and crap, but less expensive balls aren't necessarily crap. But that's not really what my point was. Maybe I should rephrase my earlier post. I don't notice the "subtle" differences between models.

Nice article on balls in this months golf digest.  Interesting at least.  The difference in spin and launch angle between the different types of ballls is pretty large.

They don't have the chart up that I could see in the magazine.  Stop by the library or Barnes and Noble and take a look at it.  It's worth it to see the actual difference in spin and launch.  You'll see that balls either launch higher and spin less or launch lower and spin more.

Really its tough to say.. For me i like to have at least a three piece golf ball with a Urethane cover. This really gives me good feel around the green and on putting. For cheaper balls, this would be the V2 Gamer, and U/3 maxfli. After that your looking at $30+ per dozen, thats why i buy golf balls on sale..
