I would like to know what everyone playing these thinks of them? They can be had for a good price and I really like the look of them. The shafts also seem really good. I need a 3 wood and a hybrid(don't know what loft yet) to complete my set. I currently have a driver, old mizuno 3 wood, 4 iron-pw, 52gap, and 60 lob wedge. I amp probably gonna add a 56 sand wedge. Really interested in the Cleveland fw and hybrids. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have the cleveland mashie 3h. I don't put it in the bag too often because I prefer my 3i, but if you are swinging poorly it can be a godsend. It makes a really unique "tink" sound at impact that I haven't heard from any other club. And it's definitely good looking enough, not many people could say its ugly. Since they're pretty cheap, you mind as well get one to try it out and see if you like it. If you don't, not the end of the world.

Ive actually talked to a lot of people who think the Mashies are ugly.  They work, especially if you struggle with hybrids but they arent very pretty clubs.

Whats in my :sunmountain: C-130 cart bag?

I've never hit one, but I do know that there's universal love for the CLelveland mashie hybrids on another board -  they absolutely rave about the mashie hybrids and woods.

I had played a full wood set for a long time and love them, you really do not need a hybrid they are sort of a cross between them.

They are not the most pretty club out but they are great off the tee as well as rough and fairways. I think it has to do with the Gliderail Sole Design?

Shafts are GRAPHITE MIYAZAKI, really light and have a great feel. The price is really great, most people do not know much about them I think because they are very plan but to be honest who cares as long as they perform. I am in no way a long hitter but with the 3w i was get about 190+ and very streaght 9 out of 10 times.

Thanks! How much difference do you think you would see in distance going from a 3iron to the 3 hybrid. What does everyone recommended to fill the gap between 3 wood and 4 iron. I hit my 24 degree 4iron around 210 and 3 wood around 250. Debating on adding another wedge to my set which would leave me only room for one club. Would say a strong lofted 3 iron work? My irons are 710 cb with PX shafts. I don't have a 3 iron, but I can hit my 4 iron well. Just like to get some ideas. These hybrids caught my eye but I have no experience with hybrids. Thanks to everyones response!

Test hit the 15.5* Mashie FW last week along with Callaway Razr Black and Razr Fit 3Ws.

Mashie did just fine, except it felt a little light in the head. OK as long as I didn't overswing.

I got the Mashie "zeroed in" with just a couple of shots.

I would call it plain and utilitarian (rails on sole), rather than ugly. But if a plain club will put the ball on the green, who cares?

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks for the advices. Difficult to find many reviews about those clubs. It seems  like they are eclipsed by more noisy products from TM for example.

I think there is nothing to say much about the hybrids which are maybe a bit sad looking, but perform just the way they are asked.

Now , concerning the woods , some says despite they are not in the lights of the  hype they can outperform such others as RBZ. What do you think about this statement?

I need to deepen my knowledge because there is a good bargain to do here in France with these clubs ( 59€ each brand new). But the hitch is I can't try them before buying.

Plus, how stiff are the Miazaky shafts in comparaison with other brands? I know it 's very suggestive but maybe someone may help. Usually I'm between Stiff and extra stiff, and the Kua 59 shaft is way lighter than normal, then I don't know which i should choose.

I consider to buy a 15.5 FW , 18FW and 23MH.

Thank for potential help.

The Mashie FWs tend to have the Mizaki shafts (39, 43 or 59 gram weights) - see page 5 in Catalog below. The 39 and 43 gr. versions are in the superlight category, and can be difficult to control if you have moderate clubhead speed or better.

Pages 6 and 7 have the comparison plots for different wood shafts on relative firmness x trajectory.

Page 10 shows the grip + shaft matchings: Lighter shafts have lighter-weight grips, which can influence swing feel.

Here is the Cleveland 2012 Custom Catalog which has tables for its different shafts.

http://www.clevelandgolf.com/pdfs/2012_Custom_Catalog.pdf

Hope this helps. Any chance you could come to the USA en printemps and visit one of the outdoor Demonstration Days (or weekends)? You could hit the different clubs side-by-side, and get both launch-monitor and watch the ball flight to help you make your choice.

Thanks a lot WUTiger. Yes the catalog helps. I will be able to refine my choice.

Such demo days are organized here at spring too, but problem is they' ll show the 2013 gear and I won 't be able to hit the 2012 woods  I'm aiming at. Plus, for this year Cleveland goes with the c kua 39 shaft , no more the 59 you 're talking about.

The mashie wood line disapears from the Cleveland catalog for 2013. The mashie hybrid becoming the "classic" (same shape + rails and keel...).

Obviously these woods were not a huge business success... don't know what to think about that.

I will keep yourself informed.

Thx again.

A 3H will probably have a longer shaft than a 3i, and a stronger loft (18* to 21*), it will carry farther. Because of its head design, the 3H will get you out of the rough a whole lot better than a 3i will.

Some players will use a 3i in early spring and fall when the grass is thinner and the wind stiffer, and then switch to a FW or H for the warmer months with bushier rough. Since you're an 8 HDCP, this might be attractive to you.

You might try some things out: a 5W or 7W, a 3H or 4H... see what works.

If you want to get a match for your 3W, check the lofts of the model's 5W and 7W. Sometimes the two are just a couple of degrees apart in loft. Take this into account when trying for the "middle" club that will go 230 yds.

My irons have PX 5.5 flighted in the 4-9 iron & PX 6.0 in the pw. My pw is a 712cb. I really like the PX shafts but the 5.5 is a little light for me and I hit them a little high. Probably loosing some distance there. The 6.0 feels about right. I will probably either reshaft with 6.0 or replace the 710 with 712 or wait on the 714. I really like everything about them except the fly a little high.

tmcbigblue,

Skip the reshaft. Spray your 4-PW shafts with deer antler extract, and they should stiffen up to 6.0

Well I just ordered the hybrid/iron set and the 3W and 5W and they should be here in about a week, so if I remember this thread I'll report back on them.  I'm sure they are either the 2012 or 2011 version (are there different versions)  which is fine with me because I like the trade-off of much lower "close-out" cost for last year's model.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Turtleback,

They are sure the 2012 , cause 2011 had only the hybrids line . Fairways Mashie line came for 2012 as the irons . And the sole design on the new hybrids changed slightly. Cleveland kept them in their 2013 catalog but won't release the Mashie woods no more.

Waiting for your feed back.

    • The answer to this question is a very small change in impact can cause a BIG impact in direction. This is with the driver, but its similar with the irons... How much does an open or closed clubface affect your drives? | RoboTest Want to hit more fairways? The latest edition of GOLF's RoboTest highlights the importance of driver face angle. For a driver, 1 degree of clubface open or shut causes 10 yards of left or right. When you think the rate of closure for a golf club, how fast the club face goes from open (top of the golf swing) to square (at impact), 1 degree is a small quantity.  This means, when you are looking at video of your swing, you can see the exact same swing, but present the clubface in two widely separate positions. More so if you have swing faults. You can make the same backswing, but not get your weight forward well and hit a fat shot. You then react to this, try not to fat it so you thin it. Maybe the timing is off on the extension part of the downswing and you thin it slightly. Also, certain swing movements cause the wrists to flip at impact. The intent is still to hit the ball with the club. So your hands are going to adjust to find the ball. The more they have to adjust, the more difficult it is to repeat. Nope, it is way less mental than physical. If we could all think our way to a better swing, we would all be PGA tour players.  #GOLF IS HARD!  Beginners have repeatable swings, just bad repeatable swing. We all just need to make repeatable better swings.  The golf swing is a battle of making movements that allow the club to do good things. You results are from a bad swing that has a wider range of outcomes. Your outcomes are probably the following. Way more thins, fats, skulls than most. You hardly see PGA Tour players fat, skull or thin a shot.  The first principle of golf is FEEL IS NOT REAL. Meaning, we can feel things in the golf swing, yet it produces results or shows on video as something else.  You just set up to the ball. The club has a different length, so you need to adjust. For most your arms extend more out as you have a longer club. You also bend over less for longer clubs. It is just something you get used to. If you make a fist and stick your thumb out. You want that width from the butt end of the club and your belt buckle. Now, if you taller or shorter than most, then you may need to adjust the length of your clubs.
    • At address? I think so. Downswing and through? IDK. I doubt if a whole lot of golfers, if any at all, deliberately think "I have a 9-iron so I need to bend half an inch more through the downswing compared to my 8 iron".
