Yeah, I totally agree with you.  "59" (that number that Tiger flirted with today ;)) is the magic number for elite golfers ... not -13.

That said, I do have my own personal little qualifiers that make certain rounds better or worse though.  My 74 from last summer was on a fairly legitimately rated course (6,431, 70.8, 128) but I don't think that is nearly as good as my 78 this year at Old Works (7,211, 73.4, 131).  Simply because of what it means in relation to my style of game.  Courses that have lots of parallel fairways and little trouble in between them favor my spraying style, so I recognize that when I play well at those types of courses, even if the course rating/slope does not.

However, if I ever shoot even or under par on that first course I will proudly save and frame that scorecard ... cuz like you said, par is par!  (Not counting the par 29 course I play Friday mornings with my co-workers ... I shoot par there all the time and that means nothing ;))

I haven't done either.

Shoot even par.

Hole-in-one would just be icing on the cake.

In all reality, I'd probably need 4 hole in ones in a round to shoot even par, so it would all even out anyway.

ADD = Actual Driver Distance (in yards)
EPS = E-Penis Size (in inches)

Shooting even par shows that you have a consistently good golf game.  This is something unattainable by 99% of the golfing public.

Almost everyone has the potential to make a hole in one. Example: a good friend has been playing golf regularly for 40+ years, shoots in the 80's, and never has had a hole in one.  His wife, playing infrequently and less than 10 years, never having broken 100, hits her tee shot into the hole.

As for me, I've shot one over par and a number of two and three over's.  I would love to get to even par at some point, but this is something that does not consume me, and as I get older I know that there is less chance that this will happen.

However, every time I tee it up on a par 3 and see the ball get airborne, I always have hope.  After I got my hole in one in 2006, I told my golfing partner, "Now I can die a happy man."

I guess what I am saying is that even though I never shot par, I would rather have another hole in one.  I love this game.

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
