I'm not usually a soccer fan, but large tournaments like he world cup and the Euro tournament are very interesting to me. I'm pulling for Spain this year because I took spanish in school for years, and just feel like they are going to win. So any thoughts, predictions, smack talk, or conversations, about the tournament are welcome here.

I'm from Ukraine but they didn't make it this time so I'll be cheering for Russia (family ties) and Netherlands (always liked them).

No predictions just yet though I think I saw a pool going on the forum.

FRANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

England didn't qualify.

I have a feeling that it will be a defensive tournament with attacking play not being rewarded. So i think Italy or France will win it.

Italy are going to win, someone like Greece would be your long shot guess.

Spain are not going to win this year.

Edit: I expect to see Portugal do well too.

Spain are not going to win this year.

Why not? They have a lot of good young talent.

I'm not a huge fan of the England team, but it would have been nice to see them in Euro 2008. That would have helped the ratings in the United States anyway. Nonetheless, I'll be watching for sure, and I'll probably be pulling for Spain more than anyone else. I'm a fan of Fernando Torres.

Spain never do well in the big tournaments ,They always have bad vibes between the Catalans ,Basqes and the Madrid players. They certainly have the talent and if they can put their differances aside will go close. I cant see any further than the Italians although they are in a tough opening group. The Germans always do well even when they have a crap team and you cant rule out the French.
All in all quite an open tournament even the Swiss and Austrians must be treated with respect on their home patch

I cheers for Spain (my father's home country), which is going to be a new disappointment as EVERY year.

I'm expecting to see some nice playing this year, I think Czech Republic might give a nice surprise (or I hope it does).

I think this is Spain chance to win the Euro again.

Portugal can make this one hell of a Show. But I do not think they will win.

Netherlands and Italy are good teams with good chances of win the Euro.

France mmm I hope it is me grandfather homeland.

im 100% italian, and follow the Italian league very closely as well as the national team. they are definately in a great position to win the tournament this year as long as they get their coach/player relationships straightened out.

I just saw that Cannavaro has been ruled out, so i now think that it has to be France. When i look at the Spainish defence i think they have a chance, but i do think that they lack a good defensive mid to act as their sheild, like Veira and Makélélé.

So any thoughts, predictions,

I work with a bunch of Mexican dudes and every time international play comes around its super fun at the golf course. Anytime Mexico plays I take the opposing team for $5 a taker. Likewise, anytime the US plays they take the opponent for $5. I used to just take the action. Now I actual enjoy watching.

France didn't look special, Italy looked very poor - Netherlands will top the group of death if they keep up that standard (beat Italy, world champions, 3-0).

Anyone mentioned Germany yet? I think they'll win. Probably the strongest team there.

I hate France for taking Brazil out a couple of times at the world cup. I hope they dont win in any sport. . I miss England. When all is said and done, any football/soccer without England takes some of the charm out. Please please let Spain win some event. It really surprises me that their national team is such an underachiever. Holland plays the most attractive football/soccer. Sometimes they just seem to be too cute to win. Finally, if I had to put some money down, it will be on Germany.

Germany looked good against Poland, but then again, the U.S. dominated Poland a couple months back at their place. Germany will be one of the favorites for sure, but I have a good feeling about Spain this year. I said it going in, and I'm going to stick by that. They kick things off within the hour, so I'll be watching that for sure.

I'll also be cheering for the Netherlands to get out of the so-called group of death. I'm not a fan of France or Italy, so it was nice to see both slowed down yesterday. I was very surprised at the dominant performance turned in by the Netherlands though. I never would have guessed that outcome going into this event.
