When Tiger first burst on the tour I have to admit, there was just something about him that rubbed me the wrong way. Perhaps it was a bit of jealousy, who knows? A few years back though, that all turned around when I finally accepted the fact that he is the greatest there is, and likely will be for some time to come.

If you are still a Tiger hater, your opinion of him has got to change after seeing his performance over the last two days, particularly the back nine today. Grimacing through, in what looks to be some terribly severe pain, to pull off the shots, and make the putts he's making is beyond remarkable.

I was never a HATER of him, but he was not my favorite like numerous other people. I found it quite funny that some people couldn't even WATCH A TOURNAMENT if he wasn't in it or near the lead.

But he's playing pretty couragous right now. He's just a heck of a player. If Rocco can't climb back into it and somehow win, I wouldn't mind seeing him win...But I rather Rocco win haha.

I've seen Woods do the improbable time and time again starting with his 3 amateurs, which were incredible victories full of long putts dropping, and the incredible has just kept happening, and it just happened again at the most opportune time.

It is way beyond explanation, two incredible putts for eagle and hitting the stick and dropping, all in a stretch of 6 holes on the back nine of moving day at the Open to take the lead . . . sounds like a movie script.

Anyone who has played a lot of golf knows that these things just don't happen, there is so much that can interfer, it's one thing to hit the stick, another to drop straight down, those putts were in the heart, what are the odds? Tiger is both lucky and good, I take my hat off to him.

He's going to have a rough go tomorrow because of his knee, and I still say that it's going to affect his game. If he wins what can anyone say, destiny. I'm sticking with my pick,Geoff Ogilvy.

I don't really hate him, per se, I just hate the way he is covered. I mean, he is without question the best in the world...but what rubs me the wrong way most is that so often nobody else on the tour gets any sort of airtime, no matter how well they are playing, just because everyone is so Tiger crazy.

His crazy chip in on 17...it was amazing, I admit, but I also did not need to see it replayed immediately from all 400 available camera angles. Also, make no doubt about the fact that when if he wins tomorrow, people are going to go insanely crazy overboard with the whole "knee" thing. I know his knee hurts and it is astounding that he is playing so well on it...but he is gonna be right up there with Kirk Gibson in the pantheon of "knee injury sports performances."

I give Tiger props, though, because he respects the game and it's history. He broke on the scene so young and was a child of privilege, but he has stayed relatively grounded and not become as big a turd as he could have. He also, clearly, just wants to rip out your heart and step on your throat and leave you a helpless pile of goo in his dust. He has the same determination and competitiveness as Michael Jordan did. He wants to win. Everything. All the time. I like that about him.

I agree, Tiger is the best golfer to ever pick up a club. He is, to golf, what Jordan was to basketball, no doubt about it. It just irritates me when the press goes up to other golfers and say, "so, joe schmoe, you had a heck of a round today, you shot 26 under par, but...how about that Tiger Woods....." He is a bit like Jeff Gordon, the best at what he does, but over covered to the point that it becomes aggravating.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I was the exact opposite. When he first burst onto the scene, I was like, "Wow, someone I can identify with."

I believe he's a great player who has done many special things. However, the coverage is just too much, at times. Some media folk and announcers act like golf started with Tiger and feed the hyperbole machine. It's no fault of Tiger but I just wished some of it would stop. For example, Johnny Miller saying today that the reason why Tiger is able to hit out of the rough is because he's strong and can bench press 400 pounds...righttttttttttttt.

He's a great player and I enjoy watching him play. His approach and committment to the shot is a joy to watch. It's the other nonsense I can do without.

I was the same exact way, and I have heard the same thing from many of my friends. It seemed a lot of people weren't Tiger fans in the beginning but I remember jumping on the bandwagon pretty quickly when he started dominating the tour.

His back 9 today was unreal....

Wow all this talk of Tigers greatness, the way hes been playing, his courage and the shots hes been pulling off over the last couple of days.A great of the game there is no doubt

Makes my man (£10 @ 33/1) look good just one shot adrift. Tiger will have to be on top of his game to keep Westwood at arms length.

Lee Westwood is a great player, just not good enough.

I don't think he'll deal with the pressure of the final pairing at a major.

C'mon, he's WELL beyond Kirk Gibson at this point. It's not like Kirk Gibson won the World Series with his swing. He won game one - not a big deal - and heck, his team had to get him in position to do it.

He broke on the scene so young and

Uhm, no.

For example, Johnny Miller saying today that the reason why Tiger is able to hit out of the rough is because he's strong and can bench press 400 pounds...righttttttttttttt.

That's true. Combination of speed and strength lets you hit out of that rough. Nobody else has hit the ball 150 yards from that lie, and Tiger flew it 190+. You could have picked a better example of exaggeration or something.

Don't hate on Tiger for the lack of creativity in the media. He's making shots no one else would make right now.

It's not just Tiger though...if Phil did that, they would have shown it over and over as well.

Tiger isn't my favorite golfer...I like Phil. But, I do like him and respect the hell out of his drive and mental toughness.

Like a lot of other people, I am annoyed by the way he is treated by both the media and his rabid fans. He has been elevated by the media to the point that he is above any sort of criticism. It's as if people refuse to admit he is human. The mere suggestion that he needs to rein in his temper a little bit on the course will get you lambasted on this forum - even though Tiger has said this himself in Golf Digest. And this is easily one of the more even handed arenas of discussion for such issues.

Of course, this is not Tiger's fault, nor is it really a reason not to like him. It's just the world we live in now. The media overhypes anything and everything they can in the name of ratings and money and there will always be fans who buy into it eagerly and wholeheartedly.

It took me a little while, but I'm glad that I'm now able to sit back and enjoy watching something very, very special.
