Anyone Use Tilley Hats

Was thinking of ditching the golf logo baseball cap for a better hat that better protects against the sun, along with sunblock and shades.

Anyone out there with a tilley hat? Am concerned because of the golf digest article on golfers skin cancer, ya know?

well who knows really?

From a self preservation perspective then yes we all should probably not go out in the sun in less than a full UV protection diving suit (snorkel optional) if you want to reduce the chance of melanomas to the max, and lets be honest, 4 hours on the golf course with a lttle hat, short sleeves and your shins out ain't gunna help our chances (live in Oz with apparently the highest incidence of skin cancers) to avoid skin cancer, then again it won't promote other similarly ending conditions such as... well you know what i mean.

As for me, yes I own a big cowboy style ala greg norman 80s hat, and yes it stays in our wardrobe and never makes it to the golf course :)

Its probably a good idea. I have actually stopped wearing my baseball cap. I do wear sunscreen though.

This year I started wearing sunglasses to help protect my eyes. The sun doesnt bother me at all without shades but im sure its not good for them.

Yes... pricey but a great hat. I think mine is the Tilley TM11. (

Tilley TM11) ) Just toss it in the washer on delicate cycle to clean it. I have the mesh style crown rather than the one pictured above, but I love it. I can just stuff it in a suitcase when I travel and push it back into shape when I get there. And the neck and chin straps may seem geeky, but when the wind kicks up in the middle of a round, I don't have to pack it away in my bag or chase it down the fairway like my buddies do with their hats. I just drop the straps out of the crown and adjust them as necessary.... there is no wind strong enough to dislodge it. It's proven to be a great investment.

I have this hat but haven't worn it golfing

I got it for field work and yard work around the house....It makes a lot of sense to wear golfing

As someone else mentioned, it's worth every penny.

Check these guys out, they are an Australian company that makes sunproof clothing. They have a variety of hats that will block 98% of UV rays. Pretty good looking. There is a crushable golf hat in there.

Nothing wrong with an Akubra to keep the rays off your melon either. Mine is permanently 100% bald so a good hat is an essential golfing item. I have a collection of Akubra's, the oldest one is nearly 90 years old and still in good condition, it belonged to my great grandfather who had it issued to him in WW1 and I also have my grandfathers WW2 RAAF issued version!

Akubra's aren't cheap but they last you forever and make you feel good when wearing them. It's like spending $600 on a new driver when the old one you own is still perfectly ok if you know what I mean.

I think I'm getting possessed here..okay after searching around I think this hat, NOT TILLEY, is pretty cool..it's made by a company called Hill Hats of New Zealand. I like:

I like that it gives you a little neck protector..and it seems lighter than the Tilley T4.

check out the hats at www.sundayafternoon.com They are lighter than the Tilley's shown, wear like iron (I've had mine for over 12 years), and come out looking great after a washing or after being stuffed in my golf bag. I have the adventure hat, but they have styles that can meet just about anyone's needs.

Just purchased a Tilley LTM6 and actually was not thinking about wearing it while golfing when I purchased it. But man… let me tell you!! I wore it to play recently and love it! Hardly knew I was wearing it, never moved during my swing, don’t effect vision and not to hot like a baseball type cap can be!! I’m fair skinned and 60 years old, sun protection is a must and this hat delivers!!! Yes, a little pricey but worth every penny!!! I plan on wearing this hat whenever I’m outside doing anything!! The lifetime guarantee against wear is awesome! Believe me I will wear it enough to see just how durable it is!!

It’s a nice hat, but I find that when it’s really hot, it doesn’t soak up sweat very well. I sweat a lot and was hoping it would be better.

I can't speak to the hat but I use these things in my golf hat and they really absorb a lot of sweat. They are also pretty durable. I do not have any financial interest in these at all - just like them a lot:
